RESULTS | NOT PROMISES The recent floods have had such a devastating impact on our community it sometimes feels inappropriate to talk about politics. So many Shepparton District people have been seriously flood-affected, and unfortunately the problems have not receded with the water. People are still feeling the effects of isolation from loved ones and essential services, of property damage and loss of earnings. The worst may be behind us, but now the clean-up has started, the recovery ahead of us can seem daunting. I feel it is now more important than ever to keep Shepparton District a marginal seat and to use those networks that have been built up during the past eight years to keep funding and support flowing into our region. People ask Peter and myself why I am standing again for another four years, and I always reply there is so much more to be done. We are now faced with major flood recovery, health issues, an urgent need for more housing and the need for a second river crossing has never been more important. We need greater investment in health infrastructure and we must ensure future funding streams reach into Mooroopna including addressing the upgrading of Westside Performing Arts Centre and find a future for the vacant secondary school site and more housing. Right now, we need to pick ourselves up and keep going. I think the first thing we need to do is look after our mental health. If you feel you need support it is available through the Flood Recovery Hotline on 1800 560 760. Emergency financial assistance is also available through the same hotline, which is open from 7.30am to 7.30pm every day. Please know my door is always open, so call my office on 5831 6944, or pop in to our office at 5 Vaughan St, Shepparton and we will help in any way we can. Let’s keep the money flowing into our communities by keeping Shepparton District proudly independent.
