Shepparton Show at 150 Come and celebrate 150 years of memories, agriculture, entertainment and community THIS year’s milestone Shepparton Show is packed with entertainment, family friendly activities and traditional agricultural show attractions. Gates open 10am Friday, October 9 and close at 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights. The official opening of the Show will take place at the Grandstand at 11am, celebrating 150 years with the commemorative quilt unveiling, cakecutting and music by the RAAF Brass Quintet. Across the Show, musical entertainment will also be provided by the Greater Shepparton Secondary College jazz and rock bands on Friday, and Goulburn Valley Brass and Wind on Saturday. Shepparton Agricultural Society secretary Julie Winch said
Friday’s ‘Showdown at the Show’ sideshow event will be a must-see, with local leaders including Sam Birrell MP, Kim O’Keeffe MP, Wendy Lovell MP, Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell MP and Kyabram Show president and Rural Ambassador award runner up Harry Lloyd competing in a series of fun challenges. Commencing at 1pm in the main arena, representatives will participate in a 25m hobby horse race, toss the hula hoop over the dummy cow’s head, and a gumboot throw, with the winner taking home the Golden Gumboot. Also on Friday, the volunteers' barbecue will say thanks to the many people who help put on a successful show. People who are comfortable working with animals, can follow instructions, and assist with setting up and
packing down are welcome to contact the Shepparton Agricultural Show Society for volunteer opportunities. The full 2026 program is on page 18, and it is packed with traditional favourites and dazzling displays, animals, performances and more. A much-loved favourite, the Sideshow Alley, features a huge range of sideshows travelling from Melbourne and Perth to entertain Shepparton showgoers, as well as showbags, food trucks, rides and much more, open 10am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday. The 150th Shepparton Show will close with the Mr Skye Candy fireworks display at 9am on Saturday, weather permitting.
Plenty to keep the kids entertained FAMILIES will find plenty to see and do at the 150th Shepparton Show, with a packed program of free activities running across both days. Kids can get active and creative at the Connected Circus workshop, where they can try their hand at movement, circus skills and playful activities. Young scientists can get hands-on at the Fizzics Science Show, featuring science toys, interactive activities and liquid nitrogen demonstrations led by an experienced education team. For a limited time, children can enter a Fizzics Science Show colouring competition to win a one-day family pass to the Show. Entries are available

through the Shepparton Show Facebook page and close October 1. Dinkum Dinosaurs, dubbed the ‘funniest dinosaurs in Australia’, will bring two laugh-out-loud comedy shows to the event. The comedy ventriloquist performances invite children to join the action as Ranger Jim and his cheeky dinosaur companions, Hunter and Tickles, deliver plenty of silliness, playful banter and audience interaction for young and young at heart. Free camel rides and Colonial Clydesdales carriage rides will operate across both days. Natimuk A&P Society will also bring its grain header simulator,
giving visitors the chance to experience what it is like to drive a grain header. There will also be blacksmithing demonstrations from Jesse’s Blacksmith, SandStation sand sculptures and sand art kits, along with roving entertainment from Farmer Bob Buchan and Holy Cow, Batacuda Drumming Duo and juggler Corey Tomlins. The animal nursery is sure to be a hit with younger visitors and will be open from 10am to 6pm on both days. On Saturday, the Rural Health Unit’s Teddy Bear Hospital will be at the Show, where children can bring along their favourite teddy for a free check-up.

Anniversary Feature 1876/77 – The Shepparton Agricultural Society was established with the first Shepparton Agricultural Show held on-site, bounded by Nixon, Welsford and Marungi Streets in 1877.

1878/79 – The second and third shows were held. 1883/84 – The first show competitions for reaper and binder field trials were held at Kialla. Stripping competitions were added in 1884, held at Forge’s farm. 1889 – The Shepparton Show moved to its present site at Benalla Road, set across 25 acres, nine of which were freehold. 1898 – A new grandstand was reportedly in use, having been purchased for 85 pounds and relocated from the racecourse. 1906 – A new grandstand was built, designed by J A K Clarke 1912 – The main memorial gates were completed 1913/14 – New grandstand renovations were completed
1991 – Springnats Car Show first held at Showgrounds, with 40,000 in attendance
1927 – The showgrounds were enlarged through the addition of freehold land. During the 1920s and 30s, the Shepparton Agricultural Show was regarded as the largest agricultural show in Victoria.
1993 – Rookies Return for the 50th anniversary reunion of Army and Air Force personnel
1932 – Chamber of Commerce Hall erected 1940 – The showgrounds became the site of No. 2 Infantry Training Depot, later renamed No. 3 AIF Depot 1940/46 - No agricultural shows were held during World War II while the grounds were occupied by armed forces. 1946 – The first post-war show was held and reportedly generated record profits 1947/51 – Shepparton hosted a three-day ‘Grand National Show’, officially becoming a three-day event in 1951.
1960/73 – New amenities continued to be added to the site, including the Philips Pavilion in 1960, a secretary’s office was added in 1962, a Pig Pavilion (1963), Sheep Pavilion (1965), Horticulture and Cattle Pavilions (1966), animal nursery (1967), cattle steward’s office (1971), and J.S. Wall and Stan Osmond Pavilions in 1973. 1975 – The inaugural National Dairy Show was held
2003 – Greater Shepparton City Council began a substantial redevelopment of the showgrounds with financial assistance from the Victorian Government. 2006/10 – The McIntosh Centre was completed, and the public art piece The Farmer was unveiled, as part of ongoing works. Further developments during this time included air-conditioning at the McIntosh Centre, refurbishing and lighting the upper level of the grandstand, and installing gateway entry features, and showground shedding.

2011 – By this time, the Shepparton Show was held across two-days, featuring a sideshow arena, animal nursery, dairy cattle competition, woodchopping, art and craft, fashion parade and fireworks. Redevelopment works continued at the showgrounds. 2013/14 – Council's annual report recorded 89 events at the showgrounds and attendance of around 65,000 people during the year. The eastern promenade works were completed in preparation for the major outdoor open-space project.
2015 – A major $1.5M upgrade began in January. The project included a much larger grassed area, improved drainage and irrigation, two new light towers, a bitumen promenade linking the eastern and western areas, improved lighting and a new toilet block with 10 toilets, including an accessible toilet. The Victorian Government contributed $500,000. The grassed arena was completed later that year, effectively bringing the major development program that had begun in 2003 to a significant milestone. Council described the refurbished venue as an opportunity
2020/22 – The Showgrounds and McIntosh Centre were useful community infrastructure during the COVID-19 period. In 2022, for example, the McIntosh Centre was used as a GV Health COVID-19 vaccination hub before the service moved to Wyndham Street. 2022 – The 146th annual Shepparton Show returned after the two-year COVID interruption, attracting approximately 13,000 people. The showgrounds again served as a vital community refuge with the McIntosh Centre used as an Emergency Relief Centre during the October 2022 floods, forming part of the response to supporting hundreds of displaced residents.

The 147th annual Shepparton Show continued the show’s strong return and its traditional mix of agriculture, livestock, community and entertainment. 2024 – The risk of avian flu saw poultry show events and competitions cancelled. 2025 – The 149th annual Shepparton Show introduced new branding and signage as part of the lead up to

Attendance reached approximately 17,000. 2017 – Show horse competitions were held at Tatura Park, expanding the show’s horse program. 2018 – 142nd annual Shepparton Show saw even more new attractions including ferret racing, alongside circus entertainment, chainsaw carving, whip cracking, performing horses and the animal nursery.

Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC has accepted an invitation to attend the 150th anniversary celebrations, becoming the third Governor-General to attend the show.

Governor-General to join 150 year celebrations HER Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, has accepted an invitation to attend the 2026 Shepparton Show as part of the show’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Councillor Shane Sali, extended an informal invitation to Her Excellency when they spoke at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly earlier this year. Cr Sali shared the significance of the milestone and the opportunity for Greater Shepparton to host the Governor-General. “I am delighted that Her Excellency
has accepted my invitation and Greater Shepparton looks forward to welcoming her to our region as we mark this historic milestone for the Shepparton Show,” he said. “Her attendance recognises the importance of the show, not only to Greater Shepparton, but also its contribution to regional Australia and our agricultural heritage.” Shepparton Agricultural Society President, Kevin Winch, acknowledged Mayor Sali’s support, the excitement of the Governor-General's

the show would not exist. It is always a great exhibition of local products, our dairy displays and our agricultural industry more broadly and we can’t wait to celebrate this special occasion with the community next month.” Her Excellency is expected to attend the show on Friday.

DURING the 150th Shepparton Show, the McIntosh Centre will provide a place to pause, grab a bite to eat, discover local community groups and delve into the Show’s 150-year history. A large collection of memorabilia and photographs spanning the Show’s history will be exhibited on Friday and Saturday. Visitors are encouraged to browse the artefacts and see if they can spot themselves, loved ones or familiar local characters among the images from years gone by. On Friday, children aged three to five will take part in the Tiny Tots judging from 12pm. The Dog High Jump, open to any dog who likes to jump, returns at 6pm, followed by the All
Breeds Youth Dairy Cattle Show, with judging also commencing at 6pm. CWA light lunches and scones will be available daily from 10am to 6pm, providing a spot to enjoy a cuppa and something sweet during the day. Visitors can meet members of GV Woodworkers, Crime Stoppers, Neighbourhood Watch and South Shepparton Community Centre. There will also be displays from Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre (MEAC) and GVGT Miniature Train Display. And there is more to discover outside the centre, with the Arts & Crafts Pavilion offering a showcase of local talent. Open from 10am to 7pm on Friday and 10am to 8pm on Saturday, it will feature cooking, horticulture, photography, craft and art entries.

Animals, agriculture and classic show favourites IT wouldn’t be an agricultural show without animals, and the 150th Shepparton Show will bring together livestock, working animals, and a host of much-loved traditions. Across both days, from 10am to 6pm, visitors can head to the animal nursery to meet residents of RedLilly Farm and Aussie Animal Display. The nursery will be located between the Arts & Crafts Pavilion and the Secretary’s Office, along the Benalla Road side of the showgrounds. Friday’s animal judging gets underway at 1pm in the Main Arena,
with miniature horses and ponies, small and little horses, Shetlands and Led Pintos among the classes. The Main Arena will also host the working dog display on Friday, while the Dog High Jump takes place at 6pm in the McIntosh Centre, followed by the All Breeds Youth Cattle Show. Saturday’s program will feature the Championship Dog Show, Dairy Cattle, Boer Goats, Poultry, the DGSA Vic Branch Dairy Goat Show and a sheep shearing demonstration. The horse program will be held at
Tatura Park on Saturday, hosted by Tatura Dressage Club, with the dressage program continuing on Sunday. Beyond the animal events, visitors can enjoy traditional agricultural show attractions including woodchop demonstrations, blacksmithing and the GV Vintage Machinery and Tractor Display. And, in a fitting finale to the 150th celebrations, the festivities will conclude with fireworks at 9pm on Saturday, weather permitting.
