Obituary On June 27, 1952, the sun rose on the 71-year life journey of Vance Kevin Caines. Vance was born to Zebulun Vance and Jennie Caines in Queens New York. He was the 3rd of 5 children who grew up together in South Ozone Park, New York. Vance and his family attended Dunton Presbyterian Church where Vance grew to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour. Vance graduated from Richmond Hill High School and went on to further his education by earning a degree in Merchandising and Display Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After college Vance was employed by Howard Johnson where he met Frank Sallustro. Frank, so impressed with Vance’s amazing business and personal skills asked him to join him and his son in opening up Paramount Temporary Agency in Jamaica Queens where Vance worked as a manager for many years. In 1993, the dream of entrepreneurship and the love of community drove Vance to open Ad-Vance Printing with his partner Ashoke Kassieram. Vance was a very well-known and trusted businessman throughout the community of Jamaica and South Ozone Park, Queens. 1998 saw the laying of a foundation in Vance’s personal life when his good friend Renee would introduce him to her sister Denise who would become his wife and the love of his life. Vance was a member of Mystic Star Lodge 62 AF & AM, a member of The United Black Men of Queens, and a past President of the Southeast Queens Rotary Club. He became a member of the Greater Springfield Community Church under the leadership of his lifelong friend and former Rev. Dr. Philip Craig. He served as Deacon and Pastor’s right-hand man whom Reverend Dr. Craig confided in and listened to many of Vance’s recommended ideas. In 2015 Vance retired and moved to Charlotte, NC with his family and was blessed to become a member of New Life Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastors Tommy and Michael Steele where he would not only serve as Chair of the Usher Board but was also chair on the Trustee Board and an honorable member of Men of Honor. Vance has always been an amazing male role model to his son Vance and his nephews Lamar, Brandon, Carl Jordan, and Ronnie a loving father with an open door for Jennifer, Ebony, and Vance and a loving grandfather. His pride for his nieces Tenaya and Whitney brought a smile to his face and a sparkle to his eyes whenever he would mention their names. When Vance walked into a room his presence made everyone feel special. His style and charismatic personality would draw you right to him. Vance was loved by so many people and he would love you right back. He enjoyed attending social functions where he and Denise would dance the night away. We will all miss him so much, but God needed him more. On January 7th, 2024 the sun set on this well-lived life. This time when the light beckoned and the angels called Vance was ready to be with the Lord. Vance is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 25 years Denise Sherry Caines, his children Vance Brian Caines, Jennifer Saunders, and Ebony Dunn, his dear friend Manny who is like a son, His siblings Deidre Caines, Dennis Smith, and Maurine Dowdy, and Robin Patterson. Grandchildren Marcus, Angela, Essence, Elijah. Nieces Tenaya and Whitney, Erica, Bianca, Jaeda, Haile, Chante, Alexa, and Samantha as well as a host of many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Letting Go The angels gathered near your side So very close to you For they knew the trials in your life That you were going through I thought about so many things As I held tightly to your hand Oh how I wished that you were strong And happy once again But your eyes were looking homeward To that place beyond the sky Where Jesus held his outstretched arms It was time to say goodbye I struggled with my selfish thoughts For I wanted you to stay So we could walk and talk again Like we did just yesterday But Jesus knew the answer And I knew he loved you so So I gave to you life's greatest gift The gift of letting go
