Adriana Kugler is an American economist who serves as a Full Professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy and Economics at Georgetown University. During more than 15 years at the university, she has taken on several leadership roles, including Vice Provost for Faculty from 2013 to 2016. In that position, she worked to improve Promotion and Tenure procedures, supported faculty development through an NSF grant for women in STEM, updated new faculty orientation, and helped establish a framework for non-tenure-track faculty. Dr. Kugler took a leave of absence from Georgetown after being nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate to serve as Governor of the Federal Reserve Board from September 2023 to August 2025. As a governor, she served on several committees, became a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, and represented the Board at the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies. During her term, she delivered speeches on inflation, monetary policy, employment, expectations, and housing while visiting 10 of the 12 Federal Reserve districts and meeting with communities across the country. From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Kugler served as the U.S. Executive Director of the World Bank. During that period, she supported efforts to strengthen multilateral development institutions by addressing climate change, pandemics, conflict, food insecurity, education recovery, and opportunities for women and underrepresented groups. Her work was recognized with the Chase Award from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Earlier, Adriana Kugler co-founded and served as Co-Director of the International Summer Institute on Policy Evaluation from 2010 to 2013 and later became Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Labor from 2011 to 2013. Before joining Georgetown University, she held faculty appointments at the University of Houston and the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. Her research has focused on labor markets, policy evaluation, payroll taxes, and employment protections.
