MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

I am delighted to share the launch of our 2026 annual Community Guide and Business Directory- the ultimate resource for your business and community needs!

Along with the County, the Chamber continues to grow. Big changes happened in 2025: the hiring of a new CEO, a new membership and media coordinator, and the addition of three new members to our board. By continuing to build our board and include many of the industries in the county, we ensure that we are considering all business needs as an organization. The Chamber is expanding its focus on educational training and government relations, which will help us reach more potential members while allowing us to be a stronger advocate for our current partners. We want to be more than just a network of businesses; we want to be the county connection for all your business needs.

One of the signature events of 2025 was the Gala celebration for the county’s 350th Anniversary, as well as the introduction of the Legacy of Leadership Breakfast. Both events allowed us to highlight the growth of businesses in the county as well as recognize important figures in our county and their contributions to promoting the mission and vision of the chamber. 2026 we will continue with various endeavors. We start every year with a signature January event highlighting the diversity of businesses in Cecil County - “Cecil Night in Annapolis.” This vital event ensures

that Cecil County businesses remain well-connected with local and state legislative leaders, while also allowing our members to meet and be seen by influential individuals from all over Maryland. All businesses are welcome to join us. We will also continue with our State of the County event. The rest of the year includes a series of exciting events for members and non-members alike, including monthly educational mini-conferences, member networking events, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, signature events (such as Business by the Bonfire, Mocks and Socks, and our Spring Golf Outing), and Cecil County’s First Responders Appreciation Banquet. There are great opportunities to showcase your business, expand your network, and support our community. The Chamber and its Board are committed to being the “voice of business” as we continue to partner for the future.

We hope that you consider joining us on this mission. To all our current members, thank you for being a part of the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce family!

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

As we embark on a new year, I’m continually inspired by the remarkable growth of Cecil County and our vibrant Cecil County Chamber of Commerce—a growth that recently led Maryland in GDP for 2023.

Our community is thriving like never before and our Chamber members, hailing from businesses and organizations spanning the county, embody this progress. Their achievements drive Cecil County’s success, powered by the collaborative partnerships they’ve forged with one another and the Chamber—building a resilient, innovative economy that benefits us all.

True to our mission, the Chamber fosters meaningful relationships, champions advocacy, and connects business and community leaders to create a network that honors our storied history while propelling us toward a prosperous future. This vitality shines through in every corner of our towns and communities. These hidden gems of Maryland captivate with their natural beauty,

offering something for every visitor: lush forests and trails in Elk Neck State Park, rolling hills and farmlands alive with horse farms and orchards, and serene watersides along the Chesapeake Bay, complete with spots like Conowingo Dam and Crystal Beach.

We truly have it all! If you’re new to Cecil County, a heartfelt welcome home!

And if you’re a local business or organization curious about Chamber membership perks—like exclusive networking events, advocacy support, and growth resources—reach out today. We’d love to chat!

Warm regards,

Armored Combat Elkton Battling the Mental with Metal: The Healing Power of the Sword

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Fighting is never the answer”? While well-intentioned, the members of Armored Combat Elkton (ACE) would tell you that it isn’t always true. In fact, inside the “list”—the arena where steel meets steel— fighting is often the first step toward profound healing.

Located on South Bridge Street, Armored Combat Elkton and the Armored AF Foundation are proving that for those carrying the heavy weight of trauma, the best way to unburden the mind is to put on 60 pounds of steel.

Healing Through History

The academy was born from a realization within the Steel Legion, a group of veterans who discovered that historical medieval combat, or “Buhurt,” provided something traditional therapy often couldn’t: a healthy outlet for high-intensity stress.

ACE’s mission is deeply rooted in the veteran and first responder communities. For those who spent years in highstakes environments, civilian life can feel eerily quiet and isolating. Buhurt recreates the intensity, discipline, and total focus of service, but in a controlled and safe environment. More importantly, it mimics the vital camaraderie of a unit—success in the ring requires an absolute, life-and-death level of trust in your teammates.

Forging New Pathways

For someone navigating PTSD or anxiety, the “fight or flight” response is often stuck in the “on” position. Stepping into the ring allows a fighter to channel that energy. While the physical exertion is immense, the mental benefit is even greater.

The intense focus required to track an opponent’s movement through a steel visor creates a “flow state,” effectively quieting the intrusive thoughts that characterize anxiety. While the body works to regulate its stress response, the mind finds a rare moment of peace. There is something uniquely empowering about peering out from behind a helmet; it allows the wearer to step out of their daily struggles and into the role of a warrior, effectively rewriting their internal narrative from “victim” to “victor.”

A Brotherhood (and Sisterhood) of Steel

This is more than a gym; it is a community. Between the sharp “clank” of steel, the sparks flying from colliding weapons, and the smell of oiled leather and sweat, there is an undeniable sense of family. At ACE, you don’t have to talk about your trauma to heal from it. You heal through shared effort and mutual respect.

Armored Combat Elkton offers a diverse range of training, including:

• Femme Fighters: An empowering, supportive environment for women warriors.

• Combat Cardio & HIIT: High-intensity training designed for peak physical conditioning.

• Youth Soft-Kit Programming: Specialized training for those aged 13–18 using padded gear.

• One-on-One Mastery: Precision coaching for those looking to compete at a national level.

In the world of Buhurt, a “group fight” is a literal description of the sport, but at ACE, it’s a life philosophy. It’s a reminder that no matter what battle you are facing—mental or physical—you never have to fight it alone.

LOCATION AND TRANSPORTATION

Strategic Access to Key Markets

Cecil County’s desirable Mid-Atlantic location on the I-95 corridor in northeastern Maryland has made it one of the region’s most soughtafter business locations. Situated midway between the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Philadelphia, Cecil County’s strategic location offers businesses overnight access to markets in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Cecil County’s well-developed transportation system offers easy access via land, rail, and water.

On November 14, 1963, President John F. Kennedy came to Cecil County to dedicate the area’s first modern-day toll road. Today I-95, along with US Route 40, supports the Growth Corridor. Three interchanges (Perryville, North East, and Elkton) provide direct access to each of the County’s eight commercial industrial parks.

Main lines for CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads, plus Amtrak commuter lines, provide vital rail transportation linkages.

The Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal provides easy connections to the Chesapeake

by

Bay and the Port of Baltimore for both commercial transport and leisure travel. Millions of tons of cargo are transported through the Canal annually. The US Army Corps of Engineers project office is located in Chesapeake City, along with the C&D Canal Museum and the Bethel Bridge Lighthouse.

Scheduled air service is available one hour south of Cecil County on I-95 at the Baltimore/ Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and 45 minutes to the north on I-95 at the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Air service is also available at the Newcastle Airport in nearby Wilmington, DE.

From Service to Stability: How CHEP is Empowering Cecil County’s Heroes

What began in 1990 as the “Chesapeake Health Education Program” has evolved into a powerhouse of community support with a name that hits much closer to home. Today, CHEP proudly embodies Communities Helping Empower Patriots, People, and Professionals, a reflection of the impact it delivers every day. Headquartered in Perry Point, with a reach extending to Washington D.C. and South Carolina, CHEP has transformed from a localized initiative into a vital regional resource. Whether they are securing housing for a veteran in crisis, providing emergency support to local families, or training healthcare professionals to better serve our nation’s heroes, the CHEP team is a constant, stabilizing force in motion.

Impact by the Numbers

For CHEP, success is measured in stability and dignity. In the past year alone, the organization served 189 veterans. The results of their individualized approach speak for themselves:

• 126 veterans successfully transitioned into permanent housing.

• 156 veterans secured a steady, sustainable income.

Currently, CHEP operates 10 houses on the Perry Point campus, providing 29 beds for transitional housing. However, the program’s goal extends far beyond providing a temporary roof; it is about building a foundation for selfsufficiency through intensive case management and specialized job development.

Bridging the Gap: The Path to Independence

Veterans often face a unique set of hurdles, from the lack of affordable housing to the invisible wounds of service. CHEP addresses these challenges headon through two primary pathways:

• The Bridge Program: A 90-day transitional initiative designed to move individuals quickly from homelessness into stable housing.

• The Service Intensive Program: For those requiring deeper support, this two-year program focuses on healing from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through a robust peersupport network.

CHEP Outpost: Retail for Real Change

Located on Route 1 in Rising Sun, The Outpost has quickly become a cornerstone of the local community. The impact was immediate: in its first two months of operation alone, over 11,000 people walked through its doors.

This “Retail for Real Change” hub serves a triple purpose: it creates local job skills training and volunteer opportunities, offers affordable essentials for families, and ensures that 100% of the proceeds go directly toward funding CHEP’s veteran programs. It is a place where every purchase helps a neighbor find their footing.

Joining the Mission

CHEP’s life-changing work is fueled by the community. Their efforts are sustained through various grants and corporate partnerships, as well as a calendar of high-energy annual fundraisers, including:

• Casino Night (March 6, 2026)

• 9th Annual Golf Tournament (May 21, 2026)

• Jingle Bell Ball (November 21, 2026)

You can also support CHEP by patronizing their local partners, such as Sissy’s Boutique &

Floral, Tropical Smoothie Café, EcoCool, and Liam Anderson Motor Sports.

In supporting CHEP, you are investing in your neighbors, your relatives, and the very fabric of Cecil County. As the team at CHEP often says,

“They need us as much as we’ve needed them.” Whether you volunteer at The Outpost or attend an upcoming event, your involvement ensures that no one who served our country has to walk the path to stability alone.

American Home and Hardware in Elkton has been serving the community for 101 years.

Cecil County residents know that American Home and Hardware is the place to turn for a wide variety of quality products and services. Step inside the 30,000-square-foot store on West Main Street in Elkton and it’s obvious that the business is a one-stop-shop for homeowners, do-it-yourselfers or building contractors. The aisles are filled with everything from hardware and hand tools to gardening equipment and paint supplies. The store is well known for its lumber and building supplies, propane refills and equipment rentals. It’s also the place to go for advice and things you need done right the first time—like key cutting and duplicating services.

“We’re trying to have whatever the customer needs for their home or for a project they are working on,” explained Joshua Brown, the chief executive officer of American Home and Hardware. “People trust us to offer knowledgeable advice and reliable service. We have a strong connection to the community.”

That connection has been built over many years—102 of them, in fact.

the name Diamond Ice and Coal Company. Ice was still frequently used for refrigeration at that time, and it was very much in demand. Over time, the products and services offered by the business changed—and so did the name. When the store was named the Elkton Supply Company, it supplied coal, oil, and ice to residents in Elkton and the surrounding areas. Then, at other times, the business sold feed, lumber, construction materials, and even furniture.

AMERICAN HOME AND HARDWARE

The business traces its roots to 1924, when an ice and coal business started operating under

When Joshua Brown’s father, Harry Brown, took over the Elkton Supply Company in 1979 with his business partner Harry Hammond, the focus of the store shifted a bit and the core offerings became hardware and general goods and supplies for the home.

Joshua Brown joined American Home and Hardware more than 30 years ago, and he has seen firsthand how the business has needed to evolve—to continually change to meet the needs of customers in the community. He wants the business to continue to evolve now that he is the CEO following his father’s retirement in July of last year.

“My father and his former partner, Harry Hammond, grew this business on a foundation of community support. It’s our intention to carry that legacy forward,” Brown said.

Also leading the business now are two longtime employees who are taking on new, larger roles with the company—Dominick Lane is now the president of the business and Corey Hauser is the vice president. Lane and Hauser both started working at American Home and Hardware when they were still in high school, and they have spent years learning the business and building relationships with customers.

“I have two great partners. Both of those guys have been here for decades,” Brown explained.

With a new leadership team now in place, the business is reinvesting and retooling, but it is stopping well short of a rebrand because that isn’t needed. When a business has served the

same community for more than 100 years, the staff is obviously doing a lot of things right. Brown said that they are going to find ways to build on the unmatched selection and quality customer service.

“We’re like an old-time hardware store,” he said. “Over the years, we’ve adapted to whatever the customers had a need for.”

As longtime employees at American Home and Hardware, Brown, Lane, and Hauser have all heard from homeowners and contractors about how they knew the store would have exactly what they need for the project they are working on.

“I love that we’ve been in the community this long,” Hauser said. “It’s nice dealing with hometown people and we have good relationships with a lot of people.”

Key cutting and duplicating services are available.
American Home and Hardware offers anything a customer would need for a remodel of the kitchen or bathroom.
Tools for any job are available at American Home and Hardware.
Homeowners and contractors can find what they are looking for at the store.

Hauser started working in the paint department 14 years ago, and then took on an important role in the lumber department.

Lane and Hauser both work closely with contractors and customers who are working on large projects. If someone is building a house, for example, American Home can go to a job site and develop a list of all the products, tools, and equipment that will be needed. Contractors can turn to American Home and Hardware to quickly and easily get everything they need for a project.

“It can save them a lot of time,” Lane said, explaining that they also try not to “sell” to customers, rather they help people buy exactly what they need to get the job done right the first time.

Lane started at the business when he was just 16,

and he now has 22 years of experience. He pointed out that some of the store’s longtime customers have watched him grow up.

Brown echoed Lane’s remarks, saying that the experienced staff can help people make sure they are getting exactly what they need for their home or project. It’s important for customers to know that they can trust the staff to help them get the job done correctly. This includes suggesting, for instance, renting a tool or a piece of equipment rather than buying it, if that is a better option for the customer. Brown said that they will continue to emphasize training the staff to provide excellent customer service.

Affordability is also very important to American Home and Hardware’s longevity and success. The store has a large lumber and building materials business, and they work

closely with vendors in the lumber industry to get the best prices possible for customers. This can be tricky because the lumber markets fluctuate based on a variety of factors.

Brown also said that they make every effort to buy American and they also try to buy local as much as possible. American Home and Hardware is also very proud to be involved with the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce. They also take very seriously the loyalty of customers, who are considered to be a part of the extended American Home and Hardware family.

“Family is important to us, and I think that shows in our business,” Brown said. “We’re local and we know our customers. Moving forward, we’ll be looking for new opportunities to serve more customers and better serve the existing ones.” American

Cecilton

Cecilton owes its existence to August Herman, an immigrant to America in 1633 and subject of heroic legend. He was the builder and first Lord of Bohemia Manor. Herman made several attempts to establish a town named for his friend Cecilius Calvert in lower Cecil County, but, uncharacteristically, he was not successful. Several generations later, a descendant again took up the task and founded a town that survived. That was Cecilton, incorporated in 1864. Located between the Bohemia and Sassafras Rivers, which attracts a great deal of seasonal tourism to the town, it is centered at the largest crossroads south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Cecilton is the hub of community, public facilities and services offered in lower Cecil County. The town continues to provide a hometown look and feel even though it is within close proximity to a growing region. Individuals can enjoy services, benefits

Charlestown

Located where the North East River meets the Chesapeake Bay, Charlestown was an active shipping center in its early days. In 1742 the colonial village became the first incorporated town in Cecil County, and briefly served as the county seat. Although today Charlestown is peaceful and primarily residential, you’ll also find marinas, growing businesses, several restored colonial structures, and a wharf that’s quite a popular place to cast a line and catch a fish. Elkton

Elkton is located on the colonial highway of America. Our country’s forefathers navigated its waterways and traveled its roads when heading north to Philadelphia, or south to Virginia. Once known as Head of Elk, named by Captain John Smith, it sits at the northern headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. Elkton played a significant role in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Many of the town’s beautiful colonial structures remain today, surrounded by buildings that reflect an active business community. The once infamous “marriage capital” has developed into a thriving economic arena for service and retail industries, several large

manufacturers, and ChristianaCare Union Hospital. Office buildings, courthouses, the hospital, and retail establishments share space with history in Elkton, which has been the County Seat since 1787. Elkton is proud to represent Cecil County with Maryland Main Street and Arts and Entertainment District designations.

Come to our town to enjoy boating, fishing, and stroll along the scenic waterfront promenade, and step back in time along historic Main Street to visit our great restaurants and shops.

Rising Sun got its unique name from an old tavern located in the center of town in the 1700s that had a sign with a picture of a sunrise. Since this was a popular watering hole located at a point where five wagon trails all came together, many travelers and frontiersman were known to say, “We’ll meet at the Rising Sun,” and so the name of the town was established. A little known fact, its beautiful rolling hills and landscape were originally part of the Nottingham Lots of Pennsylvania, and were part of a land dispute between William Penn of Pennsylva-

When the MasonDixon Line was established and a new boundary line between Maryland and Pennsylvania was created, Rising Sun was officially made part of Cecil County, Maryland. AGRICULTURE

Agriculture in Cecil County: More Than You Might Expect

Cecil County is home to a diverse economy that includes agriculture, industry, small businesses, and growing residential communities. Agriculture remains an important part of this mix, contributing to the county’s scenic landscape, economy, and quality of life.

A Strong Agricultural Presence

36% of Cecil County’s land is in farmland, reflecting a long-standing agricultural heritage that continues to thrive today. Farms of all sizes operate across the county, producing crops, livestock, and specialty goods that support

local, regional, and statewide markets.

Economic Impact

According to the 2022 Census of Agriculture, Cecil County farms sold more than $177 million in agricultural products, highlighting agriculture’s meaningful role in supporting jobs, businesses, and economic stability both locally and across Maryland. Net cash farm income totaled $45.6 million, and farm-related income increased significantly since the prior Census of Agriculture in 2017, underscoring the sector’s continued resilience and adaptation.

Innovation and Adaptation

While rooted in tradition, today’s farmers embrace innovative, modern practices to improve efficiency and environmental stewardship. Nearly one-quarter of farms use cover crops, and many employ no-till or reduced-till practices to protect soil and water resources. Farms also diversify through direct sales, valueadded products, and agritourism, offering farm stands, seasonal events, and on-farm experiences that connect the public to working land, strengthening the relationship between agriculture and the broader community.

A Balanced Bright Future Agriculture remains an essential part of what makes Cecil County a great place to live, work, and visit. By supporting local farms we help preserve open space, strengthen the local economy, and maintain a connection to the county’s rural roots, while complementing the many other sectors that drive Cecil County forward.

CECIL COLLEGE

CELEBRATING OVER 350 YEARS OF CECIL COUNTY COMMERCE

Colonial Roots

At the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay, Cecil County stands as a testament to Maryland’s entrepreneurial spirit. For three and a half centuries, our community has reinvented itself while staying true to its commercial roots—from colonial merchants to digital-age innovators.

Our story begins in bustling colonial ports like Charlestown and Elkton, where ships heavy with tobacco and other goods set sail for distant shores. The Rising Sun Tavern, founded by Henry Reynolds around 1720, grew from a simple stone waypoint between Baltimore and Philadelphia into the heart of a thriving town. When the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal opened in 1829, it didn’t just

connect two great waterways—it transformed Chesapeake City into a maritime hub whose influence we still feel today.

Agricultural Foundations

Cecil County’s rich soil has long been the foundation of our prosperity. Our farmers didn’t just feed the region; their reputation for quality made them essential suppliers during the Revolutionary War. By the late 19th century, a booming canning industry reshaped our agricultural landscape. In Cecilton, the community’s resourcefulness shone through as they converted their first public school building into a cannery—one of many facilities that helped preserve and ship local produce across the nation.

Industrial Expansion

The Principio Furnace marked our entry into the industrial age, producing iron that would shape both local tools and colonial ambitions. As industry evolved, so did we. Elkton embraced diverse manufacturing, from paper mills to fertilizer plants. The railroad turned Perryville into a vital transportation hub, while Port Deposit’s distinctive granite became part of America’s architectural heritage, gracing buildings from the Library of Congress to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Modern Innovation

Today’s Cecil County balances preservation with progress. Chesapeake City’s historic waterfront draws visitors to its boutiques and restaurants, housed in carefully restored 19thcentury buildings. The Perry Point VA Medical Center continues to pioneer veteran care while providing hundreds of local jobs. Port Deposit’s architectural legacy, recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, reminds us that progress doesn’t mean forgetting our roots.

A Legacy of Resilience

Through wars, economic shifts, and social change, Cecil County’s business community has shown remarkable resilience. Local business organizations now focus on nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs, helping both startups and established businesses adapt to changing markets. As we celebrate 352 years of commerce, we honor not just our past achievements but the innovative spirit that continues to define our community’s future.

More Than Ink and Paper: The Rise of Cecil County Sports Weekly+

The Tangible Magic of Print

In an era of disappearing “stories” and fleeting notifications, there is something undeniably powerful about the weight of a newspaper in your hands. Digital news is easily scrolled past but print demands attention. For a Cecil County student, there is no digital equivalent to the magic of seeing their name in ink, clipped out by a grandparent, and stuck to a refrigerator door.

Sports Weekly+ provides something the internet cannot: permanent, tangible proof of a spectacular accomplishment. What began in 2021 as a modest tabloid has blossomed into a vital community archive, capturing the pulse of our youth programs, local businesses, and regional developments.

Bridging the News Desert

Cecil County sits in a unique—and often frustrating—geographical “blind spot.” Positioned at the intersection of Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, our community is frequently overlooked by the major news markets of Philadelphia and Baltimore. When the big city cameras stop at the state line or the Susquehanna River, who is left to tell the stories of our neighborhoods?

This is where Sports Weekly+ steps in as a critical community resource. Without local media, the triumphs and tragedies that bind us together go unrecorded. Sports Weekly+ ensures that Cecil County isn’t just a place people drive through on I-95, but a community that is seen, heard, and celebrated.

The Elkton “Media Lab”: Training the Next Generation

What truly sets Sports Weekly+ apart is its dual mission. While the paper captures the “unseen” feats of youth in Cecil and Harford Counties, it also serves as a live laboratory for the leaders of tomorrow.

Since moving into their new location on Main Street in Elkton, the organization has expanded its reach as an educational hub. This isn’t just a newsroom; it’s an entrepreneurial training ground where local students gain handson experience in:

• Photojournalism: Capturing the split-second action on the field.

• Graphic Design: Mastering the art of layout and visual storytelling.

• Marketing & Sales: Learning the “business of the news” and how to support local commerce.

• Executive Leadership: Understanding what it takes to build a brand from the ground up.

Building a Legacy of “Showing Up”

The goal for Sports Weekly+ is ambitious: to evolve from a “one-man show” led by Sam Dixon into a fully staffed, community-supported institution. By focusing on hyper-local adver-

tising and showcasing the grit of our studentathletes, the paper is building a legacy worth celebrating.

At its core, Sports Weekly+ is a message to our youth: “We see you, we’re proud of you, and you are worth the front page.” It is a source of media that doesn’t just report on the community—it shows up for it.
