It was a privilege to become Senior Director of Brand Management, where I work closely with the Beztak partners and the management teams at each of the All Seasons communities to ensure a consistent and compelling brand experience. I was born in Michigan and grew up in Italy, where I began my career in the hospitality industry over 20 years ago. My professional experience has included luxury hotel and residential apartment management as well as time onboard a cruise ship, experiencing the priceless value of service excellence and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. When not at work, I enjoy cooking, listening to Italian music, boating and spending quality time with family and friends. I look forward to many memorable experiences to come and I am proud to be an ambassador of the All Seasons brand.

ART CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS ART FOR EVERYONE WITH DOROTHY BABBAGE
As a former grade school teacher, Dorothy Babbage loves working with people and is amazed by their creativity and versatility. The best part of an art class is the laughing, talking, and sharing of life experiences, in addition to skills building. Every project presents an opportunity to reminisce about the past or to share a memory while discovering a new technique. This quarter, residents will create seasonal projects, such as spring decorations for your entryway, nature-inspired paintings, and modern paint-marker designs. Dorothy says, “Working at ASRH has been a wonderful addition to my life. I would love to have you join us. You don’t have to be an expert, just be willing to try something new.”
ARTIST TALK AND PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
In celebration of National Photography Month in May, Angela Swan, the Director of Life Enrichment at All Seasons Ann Arbor, will give an Artist Talk about her diverse career as a photographer and community-builder, answer your questions about photography, then set up a fun and engaging portrait shoot. In 2020, she received her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She adapts artmaking to include all abilities, even those that don’t feel creative or who face physical or cognitive challenges.
COMMUNITY SERVICE ART PROGRAMS This quarter we’ll establish our relationship with Meals on Wheels, which seeks to reduce hunger and food insecurity for homebound adults who are frail, medically compromised, or have a short-or long-term disability that impacts their ability to shop and prepare complete, nutritious meals. The residents of All Seasons Rochester Hills will create cards of encouragement, inspired by the Japanese art Etegami, and cheerful decorations that were delivered with each meal!

TESTIMONIALS
FROM OUR RESIDENTS & FAMILIES Maureen @ ASAA: “Who would have believed that a senior community could become my extended family in a matter of months? Such was my experience this summer and I consider my decision to move to All Seasons Ann Arbor one of my best.” Ardin @ ASBH: “My 97 year old father just moved into his apartment at All Seasons. It's a beautiful apartment. He has met some wonderful residents here and is having no trouble making new friends. The dining room is beautiful and Dad says the food is really good. He has attended some concerts and looks forward to picking out the next activity from a list of many great things to do. He has even hopped on the treadmill in the exercise room at All Seasons. He is very happy here. The staff is so friendly and very helpful. I'm so glad Dad suggested we take a tour of All Seasons to see what they had to offer.” Dianna @ ASNA: “I can’t say enough good things about All Seasons. My father in law came from Manhattan and has never looked or felt better with the care he has been given in assisted living. My mom had a water leak in her house and was only staying in All Seasons temporarily. After two months, she put her home up for sale and never looked back. She loves all the daily activities All Seasons provides, music, food and gatherings are above and beyond.” Johnny @ ASOV: “Walking into All Seasons for the first time was like walking into a beautiful picture! I was amazed at the care and detail the architect’s took when creating this home for the Residents. Seeing the smile on the Residents and employees’ faces told me that this home was not only beautiful, but that the care and detail extended far into the heart of the building.” Kevin @ ASRH: “Love this place… people are so friendly… love the atmosphere… and when they were showing me around several residents came up and said they love it here.” Randi @ ASWB: “My mother has lived at ASWB for 2 years. The staff at All Seasons are caring and kind. It’s nice to come in and be greeted with smiling faces who are willing to help. The dining room staff have been very accommodating and helpful. They go out of their way to make things right. All the staff did a wonderful job during COVID to make residents feel comfortable and safe.” 21
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT ALICE BELFIE Alice is French Canadian and was raised as one of seven daughters. A focus on health and fitness started early- she was cross country skiing to school in Montreal by the 1st grade! She started taking ballet classes at a young age and her creativity flourished. She met her husband at the University in Quebec while she was studying education, and they eventually had three sons and one daughter together. After a career as a gradeschool teacher, she went back to school in the 1980s and got her Masters degree at Wayne State University in Detroit in Exercise Physiolgy and Gerontolgy. She designed and taught a unique form of fitness for older people combining yoga, dance, aerobics and weight training. Today, Alice is 92 and she is many things - talented painter, teacher, dancer, neighbor, and friend to the fortunate staff and residents here at All Seasons Rochester Hills.

DESIGNING ALL SEASONS A WORD ABOUT THE ART We are happy to share with our residents, visitors, and friends the art exhibited throughout our community. Each piece was individually conceived and created specifically for where it is presented for collective viewing enjoyment. To put it another way, the photographs are specifically curated considering the interior design and dimensions of each room. Each of the six All Seasons - in Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Naples, Oro Valley, Rochester Hills, and West Bloomfield - showcase photography highlighting the local natural landscape and urban features, creating a porous border between interior and exterior beauty. We are committed and proud to display art within our communities that has been commissioned specifically for the purpose of enhancing the beauty of the communities as well as inspiring a sense of energy and joy. It is consistent with our mission to create within our communities an atmosphere which we are proud to proclaim is engaging, enlivening, innovative, and “totally captivating.” For that purpose, a great deal of time, effort and resources are dedicated 24
to each community for the creation of a portfolio that is totally unique, privately commissioned, and signed by the creator. These art collections are highly valued and significantly insured. We hope that these unique pieces - in some cases on canvases up to 10 feet long - express the exuberance of their subjects and engender the energy and “felt” experience of being alive - indeed, of life itself.
A COLUMN ON GLOBAL APPROACHES AND INSIGHTS INTO AGING WELL
WELLNESS CORNER: SOUND HEALTH Did you know about the groundbreaking Sound Health Initiative and “Music and the Mind”? If you haven’t, you might have heard of one of the key stakeholders of the project -none other than renowned soprano Renée Fleming! Renée Fleming is a leading advocate for the study of the powerful connections between the arts and health. As Artistic Advisor at Large to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Renée has spearheaded a collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with the participation of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The Sound Health initiative explores and brings attention to research and practice at the intersection of music, health, and neuroscience.
Renée Fleming is passionate about the central importance of music and the arts in our society. Most of us have, at times, felt moved or comforted by music, but scientists are now discovering that music can teach us a lot about the brain itself. Music engages many neural regions at once, and evidence suggests that it can shape and even alter our brains. In addition to using music to better understand the complex functioning of the brain, researchers have found creative arts therapy to be effective tools in addressing the effects of an ever-widening array of conditions. Especially compelling is the fact that music, dance, and art therapies are cost-effective, non-pharmaceutical, and noninvasive. Many can be administered in group settings, offering benefits for emotional wellbeing, and through tele-health, increasing accessibility. And the impact of arts on the developing brains of children is another burgeoning field of study, with effects reaching beyond test results and scholastic aptitude to creativity and success throughout life.
