Preface

FURNS was founded because the projects to which ADEZZ delivers continued to grow in size and increasingly these ended up in public spaces. With FURNS, the experiences, qualities and specialist crafts of the past have been merged to focus fully on public spaces. We utilise durable materials that can withstand weather and vandalism. This is essential in outdoor spaces. FURNS has been supplying robust outdoor materials in various climates for many years. Our project managers are happy to proactively jump on board with you and your client to consider the applications of our furniture, to help perfect your project together.

With stunning, timeless designs, all our products can be beautifully combined. As a result, FURNS products can also be of immense added value for larger garden and park projects. For instance, projects in sports, culture and hospitality areas.

Materials

Within the FURNS collection we use a number of Standard materials for the collection.

Corten steel

The Corten steel material has an orange-brown color, which is formed by a natural layer of rust. Another name for Corten steel is weathering steel: weather conditions have a positive influence on this material.

Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron, to which copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium have been added. When exposed to the outside air, the material is covered with a protective layer of rust. This natural rust layer forms the protection against further corrosion. As a result, Corten steel products have a long lifespan.

Coated steel

Once constructed, the product is given several finishing treatments. The metal is roughened to allow better adhesion of the powder coating. This is applied with a strong adhesive primer. Finally, the product is finished with a hard topcoat of Qualicoat class 2. These layers ensure that the product is of very high quality and scratch resistant.

APPEARANCE UPON DELIVERY

Aluminium

Aluminium is corrosion resistant and can therefore be left outside all year round. The material will not be harmed by the weather. After the aluminium product has been produced, it is powder coated with a strong adhesive primer. It is then finished with a scratch-resistant colour coating.

Galvanised steel

Galvanised steel is a corrosion-resistant, strong material. It is produced by hot-dip galvanising metal. In hot-dip galvanising, the metal is immersed in a bath of molten zinc. This prevents the material from rusting and creates a layer around it. This gives you decades of pleasure from your product.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel, also called stainless steel, is an alloy of mainly iron, chromium, nickel, and carbon. This composition makes the material corrosion-resistant and thus extremely suitable for outdoor areas. The material does not rust because it has an oxide skin. This layer seals off the rest of the material from the various weather conditions.

Our wood types

Nearly all of our products are available in the following wood types at an additional cost. Choose the finish that best suits your project.

Garapa

Garapa hardwood is a popular type of hardwood, sourced from sustainable forestry in Brazil. The material is durable and known for its resilience. Typical characteristics of this wood include stability, straight grain, and a subtle sheen. Due to its high resistance, it is perfect for outdoor use.

Bamboo

Bamboo elements are becoming increasingly common, including in our products. The material is an excellent alternative to tropical hardwood. Bamboo grows faster, allowing it to be harvested earlier. Tropical hardwood forests take 60 to 120 years to recover from the logging process, whereas bamboo can be harvested every 4 to 6 years due to its rapid regeneration. In fact, regularly harvesting a bamboo forest is even necessary.

MOSO BAMBOO X-treme is a material obtained by heating bamboo fibres and then compressing them under high pressure. This preservation process results in the highest quality bamboo products. It is extremely hard and therefore highly suitable for outdoor use.

Accoya

Accoya has the natural light colour with a decorative fine grain pattern you would expect from pine wood. Through modification, the material gains the properties of hardwood while retaining the appearance of pine. Beautiful, hard, and durable.

Softwoods like pine are made durable through the acetylation process at Accoya. This process uses acetic acid and heat to transform ‘soft’ wood into a natural building material with the highest hardness. Since the fast-growing pine trees used are from sustainable forestry, this is a renewable building material that also stores a lot of CO2.

Reclaimed Wood

We reuse wood that has already completed a full lifecycle. We give it a second life by incorporating it into our street furniture.

The end of a wood’s lifecycle in a particular structural application does not mean the material is completely written off. In practice, for example, sheet piling that has been replaced can still be used for applications in furniture and cladding. The reclaimed wood is resized and planed for its new purpose in our range. By upcycling the used wood, we avoid tapping into new resources.

Reclaimed wood consists of hardwood previously used for structural construction or road and waterway applications. Therefore, it may vary in origin and wood type. Our buyers ensure that the quality of the wood always matches the application we intend to use it for.

Kebony

Kebony is an environmentally friendly, patented process that enhances the properties of sustainable softwood with a bio-based liquid. The process permanently modifies the wood cell walls, giving Kebony the premium hardwood characteristics and rich brown colour in two basic steps.

The double modification process involves impregnating softwood (usually pine) with a biobased liquid derived from agricultural waste, followed by a heat treatment. This permanently changes the cell structure of the wood, giving it properties similar to those of tropical hardwood.

Savrame

Savrame is a newer thermally modified hardwood that is more impact-resistant than many other modified wood types. This makes it extremely suitable for horizontal installations, such as on FURNS street furniture.

Projects

Jonkers daktuinen - De Hoef

We fully equipped the communal roof garden of the De Hoef complex, Rosmalen, situated on the first residential floor, with Corten steel and furniture. In cooperation with Jonkers Hoveniers, which was responsible for the realisation here. In the project, we created several planting beds from corten steel retaining walls in combination with planters. Between the planting beds is a semi-paved area where GRO benches have been placed. The entire roof garden was placed on a retention system for which our products are ideally suited.

Donker Groen - Thes

In cooperation with the Donker Group, we were allowed to design the public space of THES Breda in 2022 with various elements. The THES project in Breda is a complex consisting of 119 studios and flats with a two-story car park underneath, one of which is underground.

We supplied seating elements from the BORG series here. Including several picnic sets and benches with backs. The benches are made of corten steel combined with hardwood. In addition to the furniture, we were allowed to add our STORR litter bin. A litter bin made of Corten steel combined with hardwood.

Piazza Eindhoven - Artiplant

Shopping centre Piazza is one of the first objects one encounters when entering Eindhoven city centre. In the shopping centre, in cooperation with Artiplant, we completely tackled the public space with aluminium elements combined with MOSO bamboo X-treme. The project was realised in three phases. In phase one, we delivered custom-made furniture here, which was placed on the various floors, also using bamboo. In phase two, we placed hockers, round elements, also equipped with bamboo. In the final phase, we installed special plant rings hanging from the ceiling throughout the shopping centre. These closely match the light rings already hanging here. Made-tomeasure work that we as FURNS are enormously proud of.

idverde - Anno 52

A unique realisation by Idverde NL in collaboration with FURNS & Awood. In this project, together with Awood, we played a major role in the realisation of all elements made of wood. For the Anno 52 project, we did the complete engineering and production of the furnishing elements from FURNS. Elements such as the seat pouffes were specially designed for this project. The corten steel planters also have an important function that ties in with the complete design and result of the roof garden.

Van der Tol - Het Dok

On Het Dok in Amsterdam, there are two roof gardens accessible to all residents of the apartment complex. The roof gardens each have their own identity. In the project, we supplied several products to Van Der Tol B.V - Hoveniers en Terreininrichting. Completely customised, each element was specially designed and elaborated for the purpose of realisation. For example, aluminium elements coated in different colours are used for the purposes of sitting, playing, greenery, and hiding the air ducts. In the project, we also supplied furniture, and in close cooperation with Awood B.V., we achieved a result we are proud of. The complete result exactly matches the design vision of HOLLANDSGROEN.

Family

Family

By using different design series, we make it easier to put together a complete outdoor space design. You choose a certain look that suits the project. More flowing lines or a very modern, sleek look. By using products from one series in your project, you create unity and, therefore, peace in the end result. This will make the visitor or user feel comfortable and at ease.

AROS

The AROS series has very clear shapes with no fuss. This makes these products suitable for any public space. The simplicity of the design ensures that it does not necessarily draw attention to itself but gives space to the applied greenery and the design of the square or park where it is placed.

The use of robust beams, made of the very best hardwood, makes the BORG series very special. The steel construction is less prominent in the design, making the wood the eye-catcher.

DUNC

With the DUNC picnic set, the steel support structure is ‘folded’ around the table like an undulating movement. This set invites you to sit down. Besides the popular picnic set, benches are also available, making it easy to furnish an entire park with seating in the same style.

The GRO series is timeless and highly varied. Because the legs of the furniture are slightly flared, they take on an elegant appearance. The round shapes recur throughout the GRO series.

The MIO series is well suited for any roof garden, public space, or private garden. Thanks to its airy design and simplicity, it fits any design. The entire series is easy to fix at ground level. Products you will enjoy for a long time!

STORR

The STORR series has a very wide product range. The entire range fits well together, thanks to its light, rounded design. Whether it’s a bicycle charger, a bench, or a solution for more greenery in the city centre, the STORR series has it all.

Benches and tables

BORG

The BORG is a line with robust seating furniture. The bench can be produced with and without a backrest. You can apply it both as single and double-sided. By combining the single-sided bench with the BORG table you get a robust picnic combination.

STORR

The STORR Series is attractive due to its simplicity, both visually and price-wise. The STORR table in combination with the STORR single seat makes a beautiful picnic set. Thanks to the modular leg, the bench can also be blindly connected. If the sofa is longer than the standard length, it will be provided with an extra support in the middle of the bench.

The CARREZ hardwood planter gives gardens, parks, and squares a sustainable and warm look. his planter is made of tropical hardwood. All our hardwood is classified as durability class 2 and will last up to 25 years. By using hardwood, we create a planter that fits perfectly among all the greenery.

Due to the high durability class of the wood, this hardwood planter needs no further treatment. The planter will turn grey over time. This colour change does not affect the quality of the planter. The planter is constructed using only high-quality stainless-steel fasteners, and the base is lined with an anti-root membrane.

VERTIWALL

The Vertiwall system is a completely finished and modular system for creating vertical gardens. Vertiwall is the only complete soil (substrate) supported system available on the market. Because of this we are the only one who can offer an expected durability of 20 years. Looking at the requirements in construction in which 20 year of depreciation is used as standard, Vertiwall is the most advantageous system available.

In addition to purchase value, the substrate-based system also makes the monthly costs much cheaper. Because the system only needs to run for 5 minutes a day at 8 l / h per meter of drip hose, water consumption is extremely low. Namely a 10 liter / m2 per week. A few moisture sensors are sufficient to assess whether more or less water is required.

Thanks to the modular system.

1. First the boxes are provided with an envelope with the specially designed non-woven filter cloth.

2. This is then supplemented with the previously described substrate, after which the envelope can be closed.

3. When the boxes have been supplemented, holes can be made for the plants.

Depending on the situation, the pillars are fixed on a foundation or hanging against the facade. These are set with the correct spacing so that hanging the boxes runs smoothly.

The boxes are hung per layer in the pillars. For each layer of boxes, the drip hose of the irrigation system must be pulled through the boxes. For this, the boxes are provided with a hole on the side of the box. If the Vertiwall is hanging, a water collection gutter can be placed under it.

After the boxes and drip hoses have been connected, the covers can be mounted on the pillars and boxes.

VERTITRELLIS

Vertitrellis is the most natural system that promotes the growth of climbing plants. For multiple centuries, climbing plants have been used to create a green facade. The Vertitrellis system has been specially developed for this growth at all heights possible. By putting the growing area of the plants on height, many more plant species are possible for creating green facades.

The Vertitrellis system consists of an Aluminum tray in which the plants are placed. Furthermore, the system consists of a welded wire mesh, spacers and covers around the growing space to delineate. With the Vertitrellis system it is possible to use a water tank under the substrate, this is possible thanks to our polyurea inner coating.

The spacers are mounted in the same way against the facade, so that the trellis can be hung up. The top spacers are mounted upside down to make sure the trellis is completely secure.

Anchor points must be drilled in the facade for the planter. The planter can then be blind mounted on the inside of the planter.

VERTAPLANTER

The Vertaplanter system is an answer to greening residential towers and apartments. The planter has been specially developed to place planted planters at height. This form of greening is an ever-increasing trend which begins to take shape. Vertuss is involved from the start and responded to questions from the market.

The Vertaplanters are suitable to be lifted to a certain height when it is completely filled. The Vertaplanter can be prepared on the ground floor or already in the greenhouse so that it is only hoisted and optionally needs to be fixed. We have developed special profiles for said fixation that are still accessible after it is placed. In addition, these provide a installation height with a view to pipework to or from the bin.

1. BALUSTRADE

There is often only a limited space available on balconies. The space is also including the balustrade. In the past, planters were hung over this. Thanks to it blind fixation system, the planters can immediately be used as a balustrade itself. By including the plants in the balustrade, you create a calm image and save space and costs.

2. GREEN UPON DELIVERY

Plants to be grown in planter. Planters are filled on ground level and possibly provided with a drip-hose with excess length. The planters are placed using strops. Any pipeline work will be plugged in underneath.

4. DRAINAGE

Provided with holes as standard. Optional pipe to be connected.

5. FIXING PROFILES

The anchor holes for fixing profiles are included in construction. They can be incorporated in the fabrication of the concrete or in the steel construction. The fixing profiles are bolted to the construction.

6. FIXATION STRIP

The fixation strip is slid between the profiles and fixed with the bolt.
