Melissa Borders

After earning a BA in Speech Communications from San Francisco State University, Melissa launched a successful career in Public Relations in the Bay Area. She later relocated to Los Angeles, where she took time off to raise her twins now college students at Boston University and UC Santa Barbara.

Melissa's background in PR and her life experiences have honed her ability to navigate complex situations with grace, always striving for positive outcomes. These strengths are the foundation of her real estate practice, where she ensures a smooth, collaborative experience for buyers and sellers alike.

In 2018, Melissa returned to her hometown and joined the topproducing team at Douglas Elliman alongside her husband and business partner, Adam McKaig. Together, they’ve built a reputation for integrity, commitment, and results reflected in their strong base of repeat clients and referrals.

In 2020, Melissa co-founded Adam’s Angels, a nonprofit formed during the pandemic to serve those in need across Santa Barbara County. The organization has received national recognition, including honors from the President of the United States and the "Heart of the Community" Award presented by Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in 2023.

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Melissa Borders brings a global perspective and a deep local connection to her work in real estate. Adam McKaig

Adam McKaig was born in Santa Barbara and has been serving his community since birth. His adoration for Santa Barbara started at an early age with his passion for the wonderful outdoor activities that Santa Barbara has to offer: world class hiking trails, surfing, motorcycling and fresh & saltwater fishing.

He started a career in sales in 1998 and had two daughters who are 7th generation Santa Barbarians. Adam’s devotion to Santa Barbara and his family values coupled with his strong negotiating skills have made him continually one of Santa Barbara’s top Real Estate agents for well over 2 decades. Adam has received numerous awards for his sales prowess over the years. Adam can measure his Real Estate sales success by the numerous clients who have bought and sold properties multiple times with him.

In 2020, at the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic, Adam initiated service to the underserved/at risk Santa Barbara Community with weekly meals, masks, clothing and other essential needs. Within a few months and hundreds of volunteers jumping in to help, it organically grew into Adam’s Angels. The organization has been recognized locally and nationally-from Congress to the President of the United States.

In Adam’s devotion to Santa Barbara and his family values coupled with his strong negotiating skills have made him continually one of Santa Barbara’s top Real Estate agents for well over two decades.

Adam is affiliated with Santa Barbara Board of Realtors, California Association of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors, who continually give praise to his commitment to his clients’ real estate needs and the needs of his community.
