Reflection: Easter Hiking the Peaks of Otter

This past Easter weekend, I had the chance to take my kids out for a few hours hiking the Peaks of Otter. It was a beautiful spring Saturday, the kind we almost take for granted here in Central Virginia. Brock & Elise had to slow down to wait for dad several times. But it felt amazing, to feel the sun on our faces, breathe in that fresh mountain air, and slow things down for a bit.

Ferris Bueller said it best, “Life moves fast. If you don’t slow down some times, you’ll miss it.” Getting outside hiking

How we do more:

Spring has a beautiful way of resetting our perspective. The leaves, flowers, and birds return, and life bursts forth all around us. And just when we think we cannot take one more snow storm, it’s 82 degrees outside and the birds are singing.

Two simple thoughts I’ve had that I’d ask you to take with you this season:

1) THERE IS NO PERFECT TIME! The best moments usually happen“as we go”.

2) BE PRESENT.! Put the phone down, take a breath, and soak in the moment with the people around you.

Remember, the days are long, but the years are short. Each day is a beautiful gift and one day it will be our last. So cherish today.

Monthly Spotlight:

Why a Calendar Change 500 Years Ago Launched April Fool’s Day

April Fools’Day is celebrated each year on April 1st, but its roots may go back to a major calendar shift. Centuries ago, many cultures marked the new year in the spring, around April. When the Gregorian calendar was introduced in the 1500s, New Year’s Day moved to January 1st. Those who continued celebrating in late March

and early April were often teased and called “April fools.” Over time, teasing turned into the tradition we know todaylighthearted jokes and pranks shared on the first day of April. Spring is a season of fresh starts. In the same way, April Fools’ Day reminds us to enjoy life and not take it too seriously, and share some smiles, jokes, and laughter along the way.

Christ has Risen...

“...the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see where He lay.” - Matthew 28:2-6

Seek out a trusted real estate professional to earn you the maximum amount from your home’s sale. An agent will recommend the best listing price, market your home e ectively and show it o to buyers. They also understand what buyers are looking for in a home.

You’ll need to disclose any problems on your property to potential buyers for the smoothest transaction. Hire a professional home inspector to identify and document issues on the property.

A long list of necessary repairs may turn o potential buyers. Take on as many repairs as possible by yourself, then work with a trusted contractor for the rest. If you aren’t planning to make repairs ahead of time, hire a reputable professional to provide cost estimates to make it easier on the buyers.

Putting your home on the market isn’t as simple as placing a “for sale” sign in your yard. Here are some steps to take before listing your home for a smooth and quick transaction.

Keep it clean and tidy by eliminating clutter and keeping surfaces and floors spotless.

Maintain a beautiful yard with proper landscaping and cleaning.

Let more light into your home by playing with curtains and blinds, keeping the shades open and favoring warmer light bulbs.

Touch up the little things like old doorknobs, cabinet handles and light switches.

First impressions matter! Clean up the front yard and maintain the landscape to boost your home’s curb appeal. Keep the inside of the home clutter-free to maximize living space.

If you price your home too high, it may take significantly longer to sell while buyers look for other options. However, if you price your home to low initially, it may sell quickly, but you may miss out on extra money. Your real estate professional can help you set the perfect price right o the bat.
