The Water Institute, in collaboration with partners SCAPE, Halff, Fernleaf, and Acuity Design Group, Inc. (ADG), developed a comprehensive resilience strategy for the City of Jacksonville. This initiative, known as Resilient Jacksonville, aimed to address the evolving challenges posed by climate change, accommodate a growing population, and guide new urban development over the next 50 years. Jacksonville’s dynamic growth, coupled with its diverse industries and significant infrastructure, necessitated innovative approaches to future challenges, particularly those arising from climate change.

The planning process, spearheaded by the Water Institute, utilized a science-based approach, incorporating local expertise and assessments of current and future conditions. This methodology led to the identification of 45 Adaptation Actions and 90 Sub-Actions, each detailing specific, implementable policies, projects, and programs. These actions were designed to address various shocks and stresses, outline relative costs, potential funding sources, and necessary implementation partners and timeframes. By tailoring these actions to the unique conditions of different Jacksonville neighborhoods, the strategy provided a targeted and scalable framework for enhancing citywide resilience.

Their responsibilities included designing and maintaining the project’s website, crafting surveys to gather community feedback, and creating informative newsletters to keep stakeholders informed. Additionally, ADG managed event coordination through platforms like Eventbrite and produced high-quality print materials to effectively convey project information. Through these efforts, ADG ensured that the CPRG Program fostered regional collaboration, empowering Northeast Florida to achieve cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant communities.
