Arjowiggins develops translucent barrier paper for cosmetics

International paper specialist Arjowiggins has developed a translucent barrier paper suitable, named Sylvicta, to help reduce the environmental impact. The new sustainable packaging product has been designed to replace single-use plastics while maintaining food and cosmetics’ quality like conventional plastics. Arjowiggins said that the Sylvicta barrier paper, which is developed using renewable raw materials, is compostable and marine-degradable. The company’s research and development teams developed the paper leveraging precision fiber refining to eliminate the need for harmful chemicals in the production.

Arjowiggins said that the new barrier paper can be foil-stamped, glued, embossed, printed in gravure, offset, and flexography, metallized, or coated with heat or cold-sealable materials. ALTAVIA PRESENTATION

autonomous shelfmonitoring Retail Robot

To address the problem of products being out of stock on retail shelves, Trax created the Retail Watch solution in China. The autonomous shelfmonitoring robot was created with local robotics company Ecovacs and it relies on proprietary computer vision and machine learning technologies, an IoT-enabled shelf-edge and ceiling cameras. The retail robot has the potential to save store associates from having to complete simple repetitive tasks, as the system boasts the ability to offer alerts to pricing errors, stocking opportunities and even planogram noncompliance. As the autonomous robot can move about the store like a shopper, it offers a new layer of insights by tapping into what shoppers see in realtime. Retail Watch is anticipated to boost supply chain replenishment, on-shelf availability, picking for online orders and overall, an elevated shopper experience. ALTAVIA PRESENTATION

Tommy Hilfiger's Holiday Store includes an Imaginative "Snow Room"

Tommy Hilfiger worked with experiential ecommerce software provider Obsess to create a virtual store experience that mimics the in-store experience. Part of the magic of in-store shopping during the holiday season is seeing elaborate displays and a virtual world was created with hanging lights, candy cane installations, trees and walls of presents. Thanks to the limitless creativity VR allows, the virtual setting also incorporates fantastical elements like an in-store "snow room." There's also a street view-style scene that lets virtual shoppers appreciate the window displays of the virtual Tommy Hilfiger store as if from an outside perspective.

Going forward, the brand will be comparing sales from ecommerce and virtual shoppers to traditional shoppers to inform its future strategies.

The Body Shop & Uber Eats partner to offer same-day delivery

As a result of the pandemic-prompted lockdown and in an effort to be accessible to consumers, The Body Shop and Uber Eats recently joined forces to offer same-day delivery to fans in Toronto, Canada. The new strategic partnership allows consumers to get their hands on their favorite skincare and beauty products on demand. While Uber Eats began as a delivery service for prepared food, the app has adapted in the face of adversity to support its consumers with access to groceries, prescriptions, and now beauty products as well. The new deliveries will be "quick, reliable, and memorable," offering a convenient solution for consumers looking to get last-minute gifts, whether that be to themselves or a loved one.

H&M launches the Netflix of shopping

H&M Group has soft-launched an interesting new venture with the debut of Singular Society, a first-of-its-kind members-only brand that gives those who sign up “access to uncompromised life essentials at the price of what they cost to make. "We work like Netflix or Spotify", the founders of Singular Society announce on their website. The new Swedish retail concept is indeed a revolutionary model: the products are offered as a service. It means you have to subscribe in order to buy something. For a fixed monthly or annual fee, you can order a set number of items. For example, the basic subscription costs 114 euros per year and gives you the right to buy five items every month The founders want consumers to buy less, but better. Singular Society thinks it can make that happen by deriving its income not from the number of transactions but from the membership fees that come in on a fixed basis. ALTAVIA PRESENTATION
