Outside of work, Dr. Ranerio enjoys spending time with family and friends. He recently began bowling on Tuesday nights. At the end of a busy day, one of his favorite activities is to follow along with old Bob Ross painting videos.

What do you want your patients to know about you? I work in the urgent care part of the clinic so I meet new patients all the time. I want my patients to feel at home when they come to see me. My hope is that they know I’m here to listen, they can trust me and that I have their back.

Dr. Ranerio went to college in Philadelphia at Temple University and attended medical school at St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. He then completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma. His medical school rotations were at Louisiana State University and the University of Maryland.

At this time we first would like everyone to remain safe and follow our governor’s directives to maintain social distancing. As in any emergency it’s also crucial to remain calm, not panic or let fear drive decision making - like buying too much toilet paper. If you have questions about possible symptoms contact your medical provider by phone. If you don’t have one, Woodburn’s Salem Health can be reached at 503-9023900. If you have immediate chest pains and difficulty breathing please call 911. It is also in times such as these we know that good hearted come together to help those in need and that many of you are looking for ways to help through actions and donations. Many of our residents who live paycheck to paycheck will be in need when the next pay check doesn’t come. Our churches are already reaching out to their members and families are coming together to support each other, but many will have some or all of their family members out of work all too soon. This week we convened a meeting of our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Love Inc., Ray of Hope, the Woodburn Area Ministerial Association, PCUN, CAPACES, Woodburn Proud, the AWARE Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Chemeketa, Salem Health, Salud Medical Center, the Chamber of Commerce the Woodburn and North Marions School Districts plan together how to coordinate efforts. We learned of the good work happening to support individuals, children and families, workers and businesses (visit Woodburn’s Open on Facebook to see who’s still open you can support). At the moment if you are able, we encourage you to donate and contribute to the AWARE Food Bank (awarefoodbank. org 503-981-5828.) and Love Inc. (loveincnmc.org. 971-983-LOVE.) who are both in need of volunteers and donations. They have processes in place to ensure volunteers follow new social distancing requirements. COVID-19 Mitigation & Preparation Efforts in the Woodburn, Hubbard & Gervais Areas

ver the past month, the Woodburn and Hubbard Fire districts in partnership with the State of Oregon, city officials, and community groups in Woodburn, Gervais and Hubbard have undertaken measures to prepare for a surge of COVID-19 infections that have been projected to reach a peak in our area in mid-April. In February, the State of Oregon initiated an Incident Management Team to provide accurate information and manage preparations and response to the COVID-19 outbreak. This organizational structure has been providing a daily stream of communication in both directions from the Centers for Disease Control and the Oregon Health Authority and serves to keep all first responders informed and fully supported as preparations proceed. All first responders have received proper training in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) that will prevent spreading of the virus and keep first responders safe from infection. The Woodburn and Hubbard Fire Districts would like to thank the local residents and industries that have donated PPE, as this will allow us to maintain the capability to respond to all emergencies. As always, the career and volunteer firefighters of the Woodburn and Hubbard Fire Districts are ready to respond to any emergency. All firefighters have been trained and are prepared to respond to the potential surge of COVID-19 patients. The Woodburn Fire District also sponsors an active CERT program (Citizen Emergency Response Team) comprised of 70 volunteers that are prepared to perform a wide-range of community services. There are a few things that all of us can do to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 and help our emergency responders manage the expected surge: • Reduce potential spread of the virus by following the “Stay Home – Save Lives” guidance from the Governor: observe social distancing, self-isolate if you become symptomatic, and wash your hands frequently. • If you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19 (dry cough, fever and tiredness) call your healthcare provider; please do not go in person without calling first. • Call 9-1-1 if you are having difficulty breathing. For the most accurate and complete information on COVID-19, please visit the Oregon Health Authority and the Centers for Disease Control websites. The Woodburn and Hubbard Fire Districts along with the local CERT chapter are here and ready to respond to all emergencies. Thank you for your help in minimizing the demand and reducing the potential surge of COVID-19 cases.

A FAMILY’S PASSION BECOMES A COMMUNITY’S TREASURE written by Courtney Smith

ilsonville Equestrian Center, established in 2008, originally got its start as the old Boston Morgan Farm on Boeckman Road. Owner Maren wanted to bring her daughter’s horse home to Wilsonville from Estacada, where it was being boarded. At the time they lived on Frog Pond and could see an arena from the back of their property. Upon going over to inquire if they could bring their horse over for lessons, they discovered that the place was empty. They did some investigating, found the owner of the property and made a deal to lease it. Since they now had the space, the decision to begin boarding horses themselves was a natural one, and the business has grown from there. When the property was later converted for development and housing, they were forced to relocate. Fortunately they soon fell in love with their new location on 82nd Avenue, just north of

Wilsonville. It fit all of the criteria that was needed to be successful as a boarding facility, a riding academy and a summer camp venue. With the family’s love for horses, the business is also a passion project. Maren and her daughter both ride, and her family loves animals of all kinds. Besides horses they have also had exotic birds, rats, dogs, cats and turtles as pets. Maren’s experience with horses has continued to grow, though she would say that she is a very casual rider. She enjoys going horse camping in the woods when she has time, and being at the beach. Maren has gone to a few shows with friends but never with the intent of winning big. What she enjoys most is connecting with the animals; brushing

has had many students go on to other disciplines after riding. The most rewarding part is when they come back to check in and say hello. It makes Maren feel good to know that she had a part in shaping their journey as equestrians, no matter where they ride now.

Wilsonville Equestrian Center offers many week-long day camps during the summer. The camps are a lot of fun and every day looks a bit different. They do lots of educational instruction on how to take care of horses, whether that’s how to clean a stall or paddock, or the correct way to groom and tack up a horse. They also teach anatomy and gaits. In one of the teen camps last year they used microscopes and centrifuges to look for parasites in the horse feces. A little biology is cool and everyone loved the educational side of the camp. They do arts and crafts as well, and the kids have a riding lesson every day leading up to a little horse show at the end of the week. The camps are from 9am till 1pm and they go all summer long. Here’s a great piece of news for aspiring riders: you don’t need to bring your own horse when you go to the Wilsonville Equestrian Center’s summer camps. They have 12 horses of all sizes that can be used by campers, including beginner horses and more advanced horses depending on each camper’s needs.

discover. Not every horse has the temperament to be a lesson horse, so when Maren is buying a horse that is not suited she tries to find them a home that suits their needs and abilities. The philosophy and practice at Wilsonville Equestrian Center does not involve locking the horses in. Each one of the stalls is connected to a large paddock at least 500 ft long. The horses only get stalled if they are injured or if the weather might compromise their safety. It goes against their nature to be boxed in, and Wilsonville Equestrian’s horses tend to be much calmer and less anxious because they are not cooped up. The new barns are designed to have lots of air flow and open space. Wilsonville Equestrian Center is not a competition barn. They teach English Riding and want to teach kids to love the animals and enjoy the learning process. Maren personally wants to see kids progress safely in their riding skills, and she

They also offer riding lessons for all ages, beginning as young as age 3 and going up to age 80. The younger riders start with a “mommy and me” class where moms walk beside the horses while the instructor leads and gives instructions. Most lessons are taught in group fashion. The Equestrian Center is involved with the local community on many different levels. They have been involved with the Library’s summer bookworm program for the past few years, and they support local high school equestrian teams. Maren and her team do their best to be on the lookout for new opportunities to give back to the community.

ust past the corner of Country Club Road NE and Boone’s Ferry Road NE is an amazing place where creativity is expressed and art is created. The Woodburn Art Center has been serving the community in the arts and art education since 1966 when ten visionary local artists founded the Woodburn Art League and began meeting in one another’s homes to paint. Now, they have expanded into a non-profit organization housed in a beautiful space, run by a very dedicated group of volunteers and supported by an active membership of over 80 artists, crafts people and patrons in Woodburn and the surrounding community. The Woodburn Art Center’s purpose is to promote, stimulate, develop and extend public art appreciation and the individual development of members and the community at large in the various art forms through teaching, training and instruction in the fine arts. Ray Glatt donated his century old farm house to the Woodburn Art League in 1976 in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth and her passion for the arts. The house has been known as the Glatt House Gallery and home to the art league ever since. The league changed its name to the Woodburn Art Center and became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 1972. supplies, creating a lending library and holding frequent art shows still continue today. In 1998 the vision to expand the Glatt House became a reality when the Sindberg Studio addition was completed. It provides open studio space for artists and a spacious classroom for the numerous art classes sponsored by the WAC for children and adults in the community. The Glatt House Gallery is now a professional fine arts gallery where each month a different themed art display designed to educate and inspire features the works of one or more artists. The Woodburn Art Center and Glatt House Gallery is a landmark and true gem for our community to be proud of. Volunteers and members through the years who love the arts have preserved it for today and the current members are committed to maintaining and preserving the house for the appreciation and development of fine arts in Woodburn and the surrounding communities for the future. If so, then Country Cottage Restaurant is the place you need to visit! It all began with siblings partnering together in 2002 after having grown up in the family hospitality business. Due to ODOT’s off-ramp project in Woodburn in 2012, owner Renee and her sister decided to split the partnership and Renee ultimately decided to relocate to Woodburn Estates and Golf. The Country Cottage Restaurant got its name during a brainstorming session while trying to pick a name that would represent their wholesome, homemade, countrystyle food. Some of their favorite dinner dishes include the all-you-can eat Fish & Chips special on Friday nights, or delicious Baby-Back Ribs. For lunch, you can’t go wrong with the Monte Cristo Sandwich or Taco Salad, and their Clam Chowder is considered the best around! If

you’re there for the amazing breakfast, the Chicken-Fried Steak Skillet or Homemade Corned Beef Hash are just a couple of the many options available. Country Cottage also has a large selection of made-from-scratch desserts including pies, tarts, cookies, brownies, and many more. To quench your thirst they also serve beer and wine. Executive Chef Nicolas Aguirre has been working with the family since the beginning, and most of the employees have been with them for many years as well. Many patrons throughout the community have become regulars and are considered a part of the Country Cottage family. The restaurant has a cozy, family feel and is furnished with farmhouse décor, overlooking the Estate’s golf course. When you walk into the Country Cottage, you’ll come in as a customer, but you’ll leave feeling as though you’re family. The Country Cottage has been partnering closely with the Woodburn community for years. Since 2002 they have supported youth sports, donated to many charitable events and auctions, including Relay for Life and Rotary events, and have worked with Woodburn High School honor students and participated in job-shadowing programs. They also have a private space to celebrate special events and reservations are always available for larger parties. The Country Cottage Restaurant offers catering for a wide range of events, including birthday parties, weddings,

and local club and religious events. They customize each catering menu to a customer’s needs and accommodate most price ranges.
