f you are in search of inspiration for your next home project, look no further than Clark Lumber Hardware, a charming local business located right off Tonquin Road! Built with a passion for helping people, Clark Lumber Hardware was founded in 1965 by Earl Clark. Their original location was in Tualatin, a building you may remember seeing if you ever took a drive down Tualatin-Sherwood Road. Today, Clark’s is run by his great granddaughter, Stacey Clark. She knew from a young age that she wanted to carry on this family name and become a fourth generation business owner.

standing water after the 1996 Tualatin River floods, this paramount local business was decimated in July of 2016 by a massive fire. After only a few hours, over 50 years of history were destroyed and it was all deemed a total loss.

Clark, the 1989 Sherwood High School graduate, recalls working afternoons and weekends when she was growing up, “I always had to prove myself to clients and customers - but you learn a lot really quickly when your family runs a building supply business.” Lucky for her, she had the inside look at both sides of the business - her father ran the floor and her mother kept the books. This local staple has not had the easiest history though. Aside from having to recover from eight inches of 6 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE • MAY 2022

In typical Clark Lumber style, they were up and operating out of a small construction trailer in a couple days’ time. They managed to keep business afloat by delivery and custom orders. “There were days it felt like nothing was different, until you looked outside and saw ashes,” jokes Stacey. Less than one year after the fire, Clark Lumber Hardware had laid it’s new roots at their current location, nestled perfectly in between Sherwood, Wilsonville and Tualatin. Unfortunately, tragedy would not stop there. In 2018, the guiding force of Clark’s died. Stacey’s father, Harvey, had run Clark Lumber Hardware for the majority of his adult life. His passing was felt by many, but the strength of this business lives on today through Stacey. “Taking care of my community is important,” she said. “All of those generations who built this, the legacy, it keeps me going.”

With so much history behind them, Clark Lumber Hardware believes that everyone has a place at their store; whether you’re an expert contractor or a do-it-yourself novice. Their team has over 150 years of collective experience, ranging from electrical, plumbing, construction and even gardening! They are ready to assist you with whatever questions you may have. While their current location is slightly smaller than their Tualatin predecessor, Stacey is still excited about what the future holds for Clark Lumber Hardware. Even in recent years as online tutorials have become more prevalent, Stacey still believes that brick and mortar stores are as crucial as ever. “You can only learn so much from a YouTube video,” Stacey said. “Come in and let

ave you had Botox…or was it Xeomin, Dysport, or Jeauveu, or maybe you don’t even know which brand it was, that’s ok!

The technical term for Botox is a Neuromodulator. There are a few brands of neuromodulators that people sometimes all loosely use the term “Botox” for, when in reality there are different brands. Xeomin is just that, a brand of neuromodulator. Xeomin is different than brand Botox in that it doesn’t contain a protein Botox does. This protein is what some clients feel they build up a resistance to overtime and Botox discontinues to be effective for them. This may or may not happen to you. With Xeomin on the other hand there is no chance of building up a resistance. What does a neuromodulator do? It’s a localized injection to the facial muscles that reduces fine lines and wrinkles due to aging and those fused by strong facial muscles. I am not a doctor or a nurse injector, but basically getting Botox relaxes the small facial muscles and makes you look better! Who doesn’t want to look younger and have less wrinkles? When it comes to getting this treatment it can be preventative or corrective. If you start younger you will never form the wrinkles. Crazy huh?! If you start Xeomin/Botox later in life you will already have formed the wrinkles and while Botox may be able to relax wrinkles, some what, there

I have to say I’m 33 and have been getting it for 5 years. The goal is to keep my 28 year old face forever! Jokes aside, I’ll have very minimal wrinkles at 55 compared to if I never would have started Botox or Xeomin. But I think the fear I hear most often about getting Xeomin is that people don’t want to look different or scary like some of the Botox gone wrong on the Desperate Housewives. I will tell you from my perspective of being the Spa Owner and offering the service for 4 ½ years, done correctly you’re not going to look scary or weird or different even, just better! BEFORE Your husband probably won’t even be able to tell! (we hear this one a lot too LOL.) Also who you get Xeomin/ AFTER Botox from matters. News Flash: from inside the industry, just because you go to a Doctor for this service does not mean that it’s going to come out better than with a nurse. I employ both a doctors and nurses. The service is medical, artistic, and technique matters, not the job title. Overall there’s nothing like the results of a neuromodulator! We love brand Botox and are excited to welcome in Xeomin to our spa as well.

inding the right auto service provider for your vehicle is never an easy task. Generally speaking though, we’re all looking for the same thing: someone we can trust. We want to take our vehicles to an organization that is well established, that employs ASE-Certified technicians, and that has a visible track record of success which we can access. In short, we want to take our vehicles to a shop like Lance’s Superior Auto Service right here in Wilsonville!

Why Lance’s? Well, for all those reasons listed above and more. Lance Griffin has been in the industry since 1978. He started working at a Chevron Station pumping gas in high school, then went to their tech school, where he took every course they offered. In 1982, he returned after testing and acquiring full ASE Certification (a designation that requires re-testing every 5 years to maintain), and worked as a technician for Chevron for another 14 years. An opportunity arose in 1996 for him to open his own service shop, and that was when Lance’s Superior Auto Service was born.

Lance is one of the greatest guys you’ll ever talk to. He is a local, born and raised, and truly cares about this community. He built his business on one solid pillar: treat your customers like friends and family. Beyond that, conduct business with absolute transparency. He believes in educating his customers, not selling them, so Lance’s will never do work that you’re not fully educated about, and you will never pay for anything you’re not prepared for.

In the beginning, he had 2 employees and leased a 4-bay garage that was on the same lot as the Chevron station where he had previously worked. As the business gained traction and word of his “superior service” spread, he needed to find a larger space. In 2004, he moved to the location where he still resides today; a prime location which boasts 7 bays, an alignment machine, a nice waiting room, and everything else you could ask for in a service shop. They are a general service shop, covering all of the bases from A-Z with only a few exceptions: they do not rebuild transmissions (although they can replace them), and they can’t reprogram computers 10 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE • MAY 2022

otherhood. What does that mean? How do we envision it? We honor our mothers on Mother’s Day, but surely, motherhood means many different things to each of us. For Christine Lewy, owner and operator of Divine Complexions (a luxury Beauty Med Spa in Wilsonville), her own Motherhood means everything to her. It is the most important part of her life. How then could this dedicated mom become such a successful business woman? She listened to her heart and followed her passions.

chuckles. She and Matt moved to Oregon, where Christine pursued a veterinarian profession (her parents didn’t see the Beauty Industry as a career path). Realizing she “really loved” the beauty industry, she switched from veterinary studies, graduated from Oregon State with a BS degree in Human Development, and obtained her Esthetician license. She had worked a few different places, and was very excited when she was asked back by one of them to teach esthetics. This was very special to her. Christine’s family was also very special to her. Her road was not always straight, or smooth, and she’s had to work very hard, but with the loving support of her husband, Matt, she’s been able to realize her dreams. Originally from Southern California, she and Matt met when they were ten and grew up together. “It’s very cute, I know,” Christine 12 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE • MAY 2022

“Esthetics is my passion. But first, being a mother was always number one, and always what I couldn’t wait to do,” Christine confided. How then would she reconcile both the passion and

Barbecued Picnic Chicken Cooked on a covered grill, the poultry stays so tender and juicy. Everyone loves the zesty, slightly sweet homemade barbecue sauce. INGREDIENTS

2 garlic cloves, minced 2 t butter 1 C ketchup 1/4 C packed brown sugar 1/4 C chili sauce 2 T Worcestershire sauce 1 T celery seed

1 T prepared mustard 1/2 t salt 2 dashes hot pepper sauce 2 broiler/fryer chickens (3-1/2 to 4 pounds each), cut up

RECIPE

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large saucepan, saute garlic in butter until tender. Add the next 8 ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; set aside. 2. On a lightly greased grill rack, grill chicken, covered, over medium heat for 30 minutes, turning occasionally. Baste with sauce.
