ith summer here, many of you might start to feel self-conscious showing more skin. I wish I could say I’m 100% confident in my body and ready for all the skin showing, but I’m not—I’m human and learning to love myself more! But I do believe if there are things to make us feel like the Queens and Kings we are, we should utilize them. The things that allow us to glow from the inside out or outside in are different for everyone. My Mom is probably going to hate me for writing this (sorry Mom!), but as a little girl I remember hearing her complain about her legs every BEFORE summer. Heck, even my grandmother did it too. They felt self-conscious about their varicose and spider veins that bulged from their legs and made them look uneven. It made them self-conscious enough to hide their legs and avoid shorts or dresses. Fast forward to adulthood and becoming a part of the beauty industry, I discovered this complaint is very common, but now we have a solution for it.

So what are spider veins?

Spider veins form when the blood does not properly flow through the smaller vessels. When this happens, the veins enlarge and become visible through the skin. Been crossing your legs your whole life? Spider veins could be a result of this! Spider veins are smaller

and different from varicose veins. Varicose veins are larger, produce uncomfortable symptoms, and can lead to other serious health issues. Spider veins typically do not produce health issues but are aesthetically unpleasing to some people. Because spider veins are produced by improper blood flow, they can appear not just on the legs but in other areas of the body such as on the face and chest.

Then what is Sclerotherapy?

This treatment is quicker than some other Medspa treatments! It involves injecting AFTER a solution that causes blood to reroute through healthier veins. The spider vein will then collapse and reabsorb into the surrounding tissue, making it fade within a few weeks like magic. After this treatment you’ll be up and walking like normal right after, but you want to avoid strenuous activities for a few days. You’ll also need to wear compression socks for up to 2 weeks to support the treated veins. Note that depending on the size of the treatment area or size of the veins, you may need to come back for multiple treatments. The beauty industry is ever changing and evolving. I love it when it evolves to include safe, result-oriented treatments like this, and I’m excited to now offer it at my spa.

yle Bunch, franchise owner and primary broker for Goosehead Insurance Company’s Pacific Northwest Region, had dreamed of something more. He wanted to offer his clients as many personal lines of insurance as he possibly could. This quest led him to Goosehead Insurance, which proved to be a perfect fit for achieving his goal. Having been an agent with American Family Insurance in Wilsonville for 8 years, Kyle was prepared to venture out on his own. Perfectly timed, Kyle’s exploration into the independent insurance market aligned with Goosehead’s desire to expand into Oregon. With the opening of Kyle’s Wilsonville agency in July of 2020, Goosehead Insurance had established its presence in the Pacific Northwest. Starting up in Dallas, Texas in the early 2000s, Goosehead Insurance set out to do things differently—the innovative changes caused them to grow very quickly. Today, Goosehead Insurance Company has become one of the largest distributors of personal lines insurance in the country. Kyle explains, “They realized sales people are sales people—really good at building relationships, and getting out and meeting people. On the other hand, there are people who are really good at servicing existing clients and answering questions about policies.” Recognizing the power of “divide and conquer,” Goosehead split these duties at the very beginning. Under this model, agents could focus on recruiting and building their front office team of producers, while utilizing Goosehead’s back office for policy administration. Operating out of Goosehead Agency’s office in Wilsonville, Kyle is generally available during normal business hours, as well as his two associates: Terry Robinson—a former referral partner who frequently sent clients to Kyle because the company he worked for was unable to write a policy. And Holden Fox—a University of Oregon graduate hired through a college and university recruiting platform. “Holden stood out among a lot of candidates,” Kyle expressed. “We are excited to have him join us.” Clients are also welcome to interact virtually with agents via Internet and email, and sometimes agents will meet with clients in their own homes. What sets Goosehead Insurance apart from standard insurance companies is the variety of products available. Backed by a large national brand, Goosehead agents offer a wider selection of carriers and types of insurance, allowing more competitive options for both personal and small business clients. Kyle clarifies that the number of policies isn’t as important 12 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE • JULY 2022

as the variety of carriers—standard, specialty (i.e. manufactured homes, Airbnb, high risk, etc.), insurtech abilities, and added just this year, high net worth carriers for the private client sector. Goosehead also provides technology that is “basically unheard of in the independent insurance world,” Kyle remarks. Access via call, text, chat, and client portal ease communications; and fully-licensed, highly specialized teams back up billings, policy changes, claims, and more. “No one enjoys insurance—it’s not the most fun thing to deal with,” Kyle acknowledges. Goosehead tries to make the experience “refreshing, easy, painless, and change people’s perspective to enjoy interacting with their insurance advisor.” Customer service and follow up are important facets of the “client journey.” A scheduled call two weeks following activation of a policy is initiated by the agency team to make sure the client has received the policy and ID cards. Clients also receive calls for any missing documents or signatures to ensure that everything is finalized in a timely manner. Annual reviews are offered on all policies to verify circumstances and information, and to determine if a client is still in the “best spot” with their carrier and coverage; or to provide an opportunity to transfer to a carrier that would better suit their needs.

BLUEBERRY SAUCE 1/2 Cup Honey 1/2 Pint Blueberries 2 T Lemon Juice GARNISH Mint Sprigs

DIRECTIONS

1. Combine honey and blueberries in 2-qt saucepan and bring to a boil; boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice. Transfer mixture to a blender and purée until smooth. Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. (Can be made up to 3 days ahead.) 2. Let sorbet and ice cream soften slightly at room temperature. For each serving, scoop about 1⁄3 cup sorbet into each serving dish, then top with 1⁄3 cup vanilla ice cream (Sundaes can be assembled up to this point 8 hours ahead and placed in freezer.) 3. To serve, top each sundae with about 2 tablespoons blueberry sauce and 1⁄4 cup mixed berries.
