What is a Lash Lift & should you get one?

L
ash lifts have been getting more and more popular as spas add this service to their menus. What is it? Lash lifting is the process of getting your own natural lashes curled up like you would a lash curler, but instead using a solution that keeps them curled for up to 12 weeks! The great thing about a lash lift, well it’s your own lashes. So, you can rub and wash your eyes and even wear mascara if you’d like. Some lash lifts even strengthen lashes and include a black tint, so you end up with stronger curled black lashes for up to a couple months. Sound like heaven yet? Not all lash lifts are created equal so best to do some research before getting one done. My pick the YUMI lash lift, pronounced you-me. This lift is different than the rest because of the quality of the ingredients that are used. The formula for the YUMI Lash Lift originates from Paris where standards are stricter for ingredients. This curling solution does not contain formaldehyde or ammonia unlike some of the other lash lift products on the market in the United States. This is important when we are talking about getting really close to the eye area. The YUMI lash lift also has a strengthening keratin step to strengthen and nourish lashes and also includes a black lash tint.
How long will your lash lift last?
Well that depends on your natural lash length. The lash lift curl will last as long as your natural lash cycle length. Shorter lashes have about a 4-6 week lash cycle and longer lashes have about a 8-10 week cycle. This means depending on how long your lashes are is how long your
lift will last, if all is done correctly. Want a tip to keep your lash lift lasting the longest possible? Use an eyelash growth serum like Revitalash or Latisse which artificially extends your lash cycle length which in turn also extends the length of your lift.
Who shouldn’t get a lash lift?
If you have very short natural lashes a lift will not give you the best results. Also, people with very curly hair naturally may also not like the results from getting a lash lift. Unless your practitioner is very experienced, curly haired clients can end up with lashes that are too curled due to the hair’s natural curly nature.
How long does an appointment take?
Typically, a lash lift appointment is an hour. Price of this service really ranges with the product used and experience of the practitioner. Lash lifts usually range from $65-175.
Precautions to know before getting this service?
If you wear contacts you’ll be asked to take them out during this service, but you’ll be able to put them back in once it’s complete. You’ll also be asked to not get your lashes wet for 24-48 hours depending on the product used. This is to ensure your lash lift is secure and will give you those curled lashes you’ve been wanting for as long as possible. amily owned and operated, San Blas Mexican Restaurant has been open in Wilsonville since 2004. There are five different locations of this locally owned treasure throughout Oregon and Washington. Some of them have different names, but each location has the same warm and welcoming feel that is standard under the Mexican Family Restaurants umbrella. From the moment you walk through the doors of San Blas in Wilsonville you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical vacation to Mexico, and what could be better than that right now? At your table you will receive the complimentary staple of tortilla chips, served with their fresh homemade salsa. Once you’ve whet your appetite, continue the feast with one of their delicious appetizers, like the Chile con Queso or Mexican Pizza. When it comes to entrees, San Blas has all of the classic dishes ranging from an assortment of nachos, enchiladas, and burritos, to specialty dishes like delectable Chicken Mole or the Seafood Chimichanga. If your appetite isn’t big enough for a multicourse meal, try their street tacos. They are tiny, but packed with flavor that will make your tastebuds dance. One of the most popular dishes is Molcajete, which is a steaming bowl of chicken and beef strips sauteed in a mildly spicy sauce, served with mushrooms, onions and tomatoes and topped with melted cheese. It also comes with fresh avocado and tortillas of your choice. Another favorite is the Sizzling Fajitas For Two, with your choice of chicken, pork, shrimp, or steak. If you are looking for something on the lighter

I
f you’ve ever ventured into Happy Art Ceramic Studio located in Wilsonville’s Town Center, you’ve probably already met Tracy Bischoff. If you haven’t been in, then you definitely should. Tracy is the proud owner of Happy Art, and she absolutely loves sharing her passion for art with the Wilsonville community. For Tracy, art has always been a part of life. As a child, art was her favorite subject in school, and at home her mother served as her artistic inspiration. There was always a craft of some kind to be done, and since finances were sometimes tight, recycled materials were often being transformed into something new. “She was the type of person who could make something out of anything,” Tracy recalls.
“If you wanted to use a drop of red, you had to buy a whole bottle,” Tracy says. This added up to high Tracy Bischoff costs for those who simply wanted to paint as a hobby. The all-inclusive price model at studios like Happy Art helps mitigate those costs for customers, and leaves them free to enjoy themselves without needing to worry about whether they purchased the right materials. Tracy’s favorite part of what she does is watching new customers come in who have never painted before and think they have no skill. When she shows them a few tricks and techniques to get the result they want, they suddenly realize what they can be capable of, and the joy that comes with that discovery is priceless. One of her favorite techniques to use is called a “paint pour,” in which you layer different colors of paint in a glass and then pour it over the piece to create a completely unique marbled look. “You can never anticipate what it’s going to look like, and people just love the way it turns out,” says Tracy. The paint pour method (which is often done on canvas) is a bit too complex for children, but with the right technique it can be done on almost any ceramic item, resulting in endless creative possibilities.
As an adult, Tracy spent 25 years in childcare as a preschool teacher and owner of a childcare center. Throughout that time her passion for art kept manifesting itself. “We did lots of different things with the kids, but my favorite was always the art projects,” she says. A busy mother of 3, Tracy began going to ceramics painting classes with friends as a way to unwind before realizing what a great activity it was for the whole family. Soon her kids were going with her, and the artistic passion passed to yet another generation. When the time came to close the door on teaching, Tracy knew she wasn’t ready to fully retire. She just needed to find something new. The idea of starting her own ceramic painting studio was too good to pass up, and before long Happy Art Ceramic Studio opened its doors in Wilsonville. The studio follows a newer all-inclusive model of operating, where all of the materials an artist needs are provided with the cost. Not long ago, if you wanted to paint ceramics you had to provide all of your own tools and paint. 14 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE • JULY 2020
Tracy has always loved being part of the Wilsonville community, but never more so than in the last few months since the world seems to have turned on its head. The future has been so uncertain, especially for small businesses, but in true creative form Tracy and her staff have found a way to keep making art available for the community. Their to-go boxes can be picked up with no contact so that anyone can enjoy painting at home, with the added advantage of being able to paint on your own schedule, a little bit at a time, before returning it to the studio to be glazed and fired. They provide pre-made boxes containing all of the materials needed for a fun painting project, but they can also customize a box to contain any pieces you want, or to meet a set price point. Tracy knows firsthand how difficult this time has been for everyone, and especially for other small business owners in the area. She is so grateful that Happy Art has been able to remain open and to have found a way to continue providing artistic opportunities to the community. 17 Tips To Help Keep Your Eyesight In Tip Top Shape

1: Healthy Diet, Healthy Eyesight
You are what you eat, and so is your eyesight. Foods rich in nutrients like vitamin C and E, zinc, lutein and omega-3 fatty acids strengthen your eyes against age-related eye problems like cataracts and macular degeneration. Some great foods for eye health include leafy green veggies, fatty fish like salmon or tuna, citrus fruits, eggs, nuts and beans.
2: Quit Smoking
Need some added motivation to quit smoking? How about not getting cataracts, macular degeneration and uveitis (in addition to various other health issues)? Research suggests that smokers are 2 to 3 times more likely to be affected by these debilitating eye conditions.
3: Shades are Helpful
Sunglasses are more than a mere fashion accessory. A good pair of shades can help you avoid cataracts, macular degeneration and pinguecula by blocking out the sun’s harmful UV rays. A good pair of UV protection sunglasses can block 99-100% of harmful UV rays. UV protection contact lenses are also available.
4: Protective Eyewear Matters
Safety glasses are highly recommended if you are exposed to hazardous airborne materials at work or even at home. They are also important if you are into sports like ice hockey, lacrosse or squash/racquetball.
5: Avoid Excessive Screen Time
In addition to causing neck, back and shoulder pain, staring too long at a computer or phone screen can affect your eye health severely. Some of the eye problems that can develop from excessive screen exposure include eye-strain, dry eyes, blurry vision, and long distance focus issues. Your eye doctor can help with protective measures, such as updating your glasses or contacts prescription, and make other recommendations.
6: Incorporate Blinking Breaks
In addition to phone and computer screens, books and written documents can also cause eye-strain when looked upon for extended periods. So, make sure to get your
head up, look away and blink your eyes for a few seconds to relieve the strain.
7: Consult Your Eye Doctor Regularly Regular eye exams are important! Your eyes need specialized care because they are one of the most sophisticated organs in your body. Spotting eye diseases like glaucoma is quite challenging, and only an eye specialist will be able to do so appropriately. Experts recommend having a comprehensive eye exam at least once every two years.
8: Be Vigilant about Eye Problems
Regular visits to your eye doctor are important, but don’t rely solely on that. Be vigilant about your eyesight and keep looking for any changes in your vision. Some red flags to look for include hazy vision, double vision, problems seeing in low light, prolonged redness, constant eye pain and swelling, and frequent flashes of light. Consult your eye doctor immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
9: Consider Your Family Health History Many eye diseases cluster in families. For instance, a family history of high blood pressure or diabetes means increased risk of suffering from an eye disease. So take your family history seriously and discuss it with your eye doctor in order to avoid complications down the road.
10: Fresh Air Helps
The benefits of fresh air are not confined to the lungs and heart. Fresh air directly supplies oxygen to the corneas in your eyes, because they lack their own oxygen supply mechanism. Make sure to let your eyes soak in as much fresh air as possible.
11: Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes
For many people, eye-rubbing is more than just an irritating habit. It is actually quite damaging for eye health. Your hands are covered with a host of germs responsible for a variety of diseases and infections, which can enter the body through contact with the eyes. Try to break the habit of touching your eyes as much as possible, but if you can’t at least keep your hands clean.

12: Look Out For Eye Makeup
Harmful bacteria can thrive in a lot of unlikely places, including on mascara wands, makeup brushes and the tips of liner pencils. Don’t stick with the same mascara tube for more than 3 months and don’t forget to sharpen the tips of your favorite liner pencils. Always use quality brands when buying eye makeup to sustain and enjoy healthy eyes as long as possible.
13: Be Careful With Your Contacts
A study conducted by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas revealed that only 2% of those who use contact lenses actually meet the recommended hygiene requisites. Follow the prescription guidelines thoroughly when handling your contacts instead of “cleaning” them with everything from saliva to tap water or baby oil.
14: Eye Health Matters More Than Insurance Coverage
Managing your finances can be difficult, but it’s nothing compared with vision impairment or vision loss. There are affordable ways to care for your eyes, including not-for-profit organizations which provide eye exams for those who qualify. Finding problems early will always be more affordable than dealing with untreated problems later.
15: Hydration Is Key
If dry eyes have been bugging you, a humidifier can be of great assistance. Adding some much needed moisture to the air can help your eyes stay hydrated and healthy. Dehydration can also be a factor. The human body relies heavily on water to function, and the eyes especially so. Stay hydrated to keep your eyes out of trouble.
16: Sleep Well
Your eyes can also get into trouble if you are in a habit of skipping sleep regularly. Adequate sleep ensures that your eyes are well rested and strain free.
17: The Sooner the Better
Timing is of undeniable significance when it comes to treating most serious eye conditions like AMD and glaucoma. The sooner they get diagnosed, the higher is the probability of treating them successfully, so start consulting your eye doctor regularly before it’s too late.

His favorite part is watching them grow up and eventually bring their own kids in to see him. He served in the U.S. military as an Army Optometrist at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii from 1999-2003. Following his service in the military, Dr Christiansen established the Wilsonville Vision Center in 2004.
Dr. Christiansen enjoys spending time with his wife Tricia and their seven children. He enjoys the outdoors, hunting and camping. He is an avid racquetball player and enjoys serving in his community. ZUCCHINI & CHEESE DROP BISCUITS
Does your summer garden have you swimming in zucchini? Can’t even give it all away? Even the greatest zucchini lover among us can only eat so much zucchini bread... and cake... and cookies... Time for a new way to use up that zucchini. These biscuits are easy to prepare and make a delicious and savory addition to any meal. Yield: 1 dozen Prep: 25 min Bake: 25 min Total: approx. 1 Hour
INGREDIENTS • 3/4 cup shredded zucchini • 1-1/4 teaspoons salt, divided • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour • 1 tablespoon baking powder • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese • 1/4 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese • 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese • 2 tablespoons finely chopped oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, patted dry • 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil or 2 teaspoons dried basil • 1 cup 2% milk
TO BAKE 1. Preheat oven to 425°. Place zucchini in a colander over a plate; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and toss. Let stand 10 minutes. Rinse and drain well. Squeeze zucchini to remove excess liquid. Pat dry. 2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and remaining salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in zucchini, cheeses, tomatoes and basil. Add milk; stir just until moistened. 3. Drop by scant 1/3 cupfuls into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake until golden brown, 22-26 minutes. Serve warm.

howing homes virtually with FaceTime video tours and Facebook live is helping with social distancing. Video walkthroughs
of homes aren’t actually anything new, but they are being used on a much larger scale lately. They are often done if a client is out of state, but now they are being used even for local customers. Taking precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic is important, and maintaining social distance is a huge priority right now. Beltran Properties Group wants to make sure that you have as many options to view the property as possible, and they use top of the line equipment to make that experience worthwhile. The Matterport Pro 3d Camera is used to take detailed footage while moving through the property, allowing the buyer to feel like they are really there, while Ethan explains the features of the home. The video then gets posted on YouTube so the buyer can view it as many times as they want, and even share it with family or friends. Facebook live allows for a video tour that is a little less interactive, but the viewers can enjoy it in real time, or sellers can post it as a watch party through facebook and the whole team can repost it.

ndependence Day in the United States of America is not only the most widely celebrated holiday during the month of July, but one of the biggest holidays of the entire year. The United States is not the only country to celebrate such a special occasion this month, however. More than 20 other countries celebrate their independence in July as well. The most familiar foreign celebration of independence to us here in the U.S. is that of our neighbors to the north; Canada Day, which occurs on July 1st. Similar to the 4th of July here, it is a federal statutory holiday that is often referred to as Canada’s Birthday, and it commemorates the passing of the Constitution Act of 1867. This brought the former colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia together into a single dominion under the British Empire. Although Canada technically remained a British colony until 1982, it gained increased political control and became largely self-governing long before. In another similarity to Independence Day in the U.S. celebrations of Canada Day often involve large outdoor events, parades, barbecues, concerts, and of course, fireworks. July 14th marks the French celebration of “Bastille Day,” though it is actually called that only in English speaking countries. In France it is called Fête nationale, which translates to “national celebration.” This day memorializes the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a turning point in the French Revolution, as well as another holiday that followed exactly one year later, called Fête de la Fédération. The latter holiday was established to celebrate the unity of the French people and symbolize

peace. Bastille Day is a public holiday in France, and is celebrated with parades, musical performances, communal meals, and ever spectacular displays of fireworks. The oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe has been held in Paris on Bastille Day every year since 1880. The 17th of July is Constitution Day in South Korea, commemorating the day that the South Korean constitution was proclaimed in 1948. After the Korean Peninsula was liberated from Japanese Imperial rule in 1945, the area immediately became caught in a cold-war struggle between the Soviet Union and the United States, delaying the opportunity to hold a democratic election for three years. Constitution Day became a “no-work” public holiday in 2008, and in celebration of the day citizens hang the national flag and special events such as marathons are held. The Peruvian National Holidays, or Fiestas Patrias peruanas, are celebrated on July 28th and 29th to commemorate Peru’s independence from the Spanish Empire. Along with Christmas, Fiestas Patrias is one of the most important celebrations of the year for Peruvians, and tourism tends to increase during these holidays. Flags are typically displayed nationwide for the entire month of July, and at dawn on the 28th a 21 cannon salute begins flag-raising ceremonies as Peru remembers the anniversary of its birth. Many ceremonial events involving government officials are held, and the Peruvian President addresses the nation annually at this time. An enormous military parade is held on the 29th to honor the Peruvian Armed Forces and National Police.
