onmouth’s Grain Station Brew Works boasts a rich family legacy filled with local tradition and history. Previously J’s Restaurant, it passed from father to son in 2018, becoming an addition to Grain Station Brew Works in McMinnville. Jeff Glodt, from a “diner” family, along with his wife Kelly, from the Nopp “dinner-house” family, are 3rd generation restaurant owners. Jeff and Kelly’s first restaurant, Robert’s Crossing in South Salem, enjoyed a solid reputation, but during the pandemic they closed its doors to focus on the two Grain Station Brew Works locations. Open from 6:30 AM and closing between 8:30-9:30 PM (depending on the day and season), you can enjoy a Grain Station Brew Works’ full-menu breakfast, lunch, or dinner in a family atmosphere of casual dining. The head chef, who came from Robert’s Crossing, has worked for Jeff for 10 years,

and takes great care putting together fresh locally-sourced ingredients to add to traditional fares and seasonal specials. Many items are made from scratch such as Hash Browns and Corned Beef (made with Grain Station’s own beer). “Doesn’t matter if it’s meat-loaf that’s been around 5 generations, or burgers made from aged top sirloin, giving the burger a more ‘steaky’ flavor,” Jeff relates, “we put the best product we can find out there.” For those with particular diets, gluten free, vegan, and other dietary needs are frequently accommodated.” He notes, “Keep your eyes out for the various steaks that will be coming in and some seafood items in particular.” “Home of Bet the Farm IPA,” Monmouth’s Grain Station 6 To Advertise With Us, Call 503.825.2111

Brew Works gets its craft beers from the McMinnville location which houses the brewery and supplies both venues. Their flagship beers include Bet the Farm IPA, Haystack Golden Ale, Walnut City Red, Pitchfork Pilsner, and Grain Station Stout, accompanied by guest and seasonal beers. Rotating ciders, gluten free beers, and classic sodas in bottles are also offered. Wine and cocktails, compliments of a full-service bar, are available as well. Give the signature Blackberry Lemon Drop cocktail a try! Whether dining indoors, outdoors, or getting takeout, Grain Station Brew Works is all about the quality. “My dad and I had breakfast there this morning,” says Jeff. “He’s always keeping an eye on me.” Dedicated employees wanting to work during the pandemic were all kept on staff, including 3 members who’ve worked for the Glodt family for over 20 years: Martha, who works in the kitchen, and Joan and Alma who work as servers. “We’ve been around this area a very long time, and we care a great deal about our community,” Jeff states, sharing that his great-great-great grandfather was one of the founders of Monmouth’s Western Oregon State College. Christopher Reeve:

Superman I-IV (1978, 1980, 1983, 1987)

Started 44 years ago, Superman I and Superman II blew peoples’ minds! I think this franchise’s success greatly depends upon visionary director Richard Donner, who directed great movies like the Lethal Weapon series and cult classics The Goonies & The Lost Boys. These movies are action-packed, funny, and just solid entertainment (III & IV aren’t as great, but still good). The starstudded cast includes Gene Hackman (Lex Luthor), Marlon Brando (Jor-El), Ned Beatty (Otis), and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane), among others. But let’s not forget Christopher Reeve, a Cornell and Juilliard School graduate, and classically trained actor. His simple spandex, dark slicked hair and curl were true to the comics, and his kind, sly, understated demeanor were fantastic—the Man of Steel was a true American hero. He played Clark Kent exactly as he should be—meek, bumbling, and clumsy, in the iconic thick black glasses. And that Clark Kent good-naturedness carries into his Superman, an altruistic and all-powerful alien who finds his humanity. Rated PG, watch these classics!

Brandon Routh:

Superman Returns (2006)

The black sheep of Superman movies, Bryan Singer directed and wrote the story, who also directed the hit or miss X-Men movies and the recently acclaimed Bohemian Rhapsody. Although visually slick, the pacing is a bit slow, the story too focused on romance instead of action, and Brandon Routh’s Superman is a tad stoic. That said, it’s polished and watchable, but not my favorite. Co-starring Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor), Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), James Marsden (Richard White), and Parker Posey (Kitty Kowalski), and others. Rated PG-13, it’s a solid entry in the Superman cinematic universe.

Henry Cavill:

Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017)

Heir apparent to Christopher Reeve and bearing an incredible resemblance, Henry Cavill has 3 films under his belt as Superman and he’s fantastic! Cavill’s Superman is just as sly, kind, and softspoken as Reeve’s, but he’s much more ripped and modern in today’s superhero heyday. Ultimately, you just like Cavill and want to root for him. Directed by the polarizing, long-winded, but reliable Zack Snyder, the movies are visually spectacular, action-packed, funny, and really fun to watch. Man of Steel has a star-studded cast rivaling the original movies, including Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Russel Crowe (Jor-El), and more. BvS and Justice League are team-up movies but still Supermancentric and solid entertainment. Rated PG-13, give them a watch!

Recently founded in May 2022, Legacy Plumbing LLC is the realization of a long-held dream for local couple Erik and Ashley McBee. The two met in high school in Dallas, tied the knot six years ago, and have now gone into business together to proudly service the area so near and dear to their hearts. With this new endeavor, they share the ultimate goal of establishing a true legacy; a legacy which honors Erik’s roots (where he completed his apprenticeship), consistently demonstrates who they are (a full-service plumbing company which prioritizes high-quality work done with the utmost efficiency and integrity), and provides a training ground for future generations of plumbers. While Erik comes from a background in construction, it was 9 years ago that he dedicated his focus to plumbing. Apprenticeship programs are tough. They require 4 years of dedicated commitment and hard work to complete, but Erik considers himself exceptionally fortunate in that respect. He apprenticed for a company in Dufur which provided him with an experience so positive and impactful, that all of these years later, the only way he could replicate it was to establish a new business of his own. He was quick to state that this was not to discredit any of his competitors, but only to spotlight what an exceptional experience that first one was. With that in mind, Erik and Ashley set out to build a business which not only promised superior craftsmanship, efficiency, and service to its customers, but also a positive and nurturing work environment for its employees. Of course, only a few months in, they are still just a husband and wife team. Ashley manages the office while Erik handles the field work, but they plan to expand and offer apprenticeships within a year. So aspiring plumbers should keep their eyes and ears open for what promises to be an inspiring opportunity!

After all, this charming beach community is a short scenic drive from the city, the perfect place to stroll the beach, shop, or enjoy an ice cream cone while people-watching on Main Street. Have you ever wondered though, about the origins of this cherished beach community? Archaeological records indicate the Cannon Beach area was inhabited by early ancestors of the indigenous Tillamook people as early as the 15th century.
