5 things to know about quality K–12 science education in February 2025 1
Two New Quality Units Posted
Unravel Genetics to Raise the Steaks In this high school unit, students begin by observing a series of images of wild animals compared to animals raised by humans for food production as well as cattle in history compared to present day. Students investigate how beef cattle have gotten bigger over time, considering factors such as genetics, climate, nutrition, and stress. The unit earned an NGSS Design Badge based on a review by NextGenScience’s expert cadre of reviewers. See the Relevant Classroom / Vivayic unit and corresponding EQuIP Report here.
Earth Changes In this 2nd grade unit, students observe that an underwater volcano near Iceland left behind a surprise island in 1963. Students investigate many aspects of Earth’s changing land, including analyzing local land samples and designing a system to prevent a lighthouse from sliding into the sea. The unit was reviewed by the NextGenScience expert cadre of reviewers and was identified as a quality example. See the Great Minds unit and corresponding EQuIP Report here.
