Vol 16, Term Three, Week Three, 7 August 2020
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland Thank you very much for your unprecedented support of the Parent/Teacher interviews this term. We had over 1100 individual meetings in the college and over 160 parents in the primary met with their teachers too. According to Mr Stephens, these are the largest percentages we have ever had attend these meetings. Please note, if you wish to extend your meeting or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact that particular teacher directly. Also, Mrs Natasha Townshend was not available either day – if you wish to speak with her, again, contact her directly by email. Due to the current unknown nature of the Cambridge external examinations etc, we have decided to name our Associate House Leaders early this year to support our current Senior Leaders over this period. Therefore, the twelve new leaders will be named this coming Monday at the college assembly. I am confident they will do a superb job. I am very pleased to see that our sports team numbers are at the same levels as pre Covid lockdown. I wish to thank parents and students for supporting this very important pillar in the ‘Sunderland Way’. Most teams are also highly competitive in their particular grade. I wish to highlight Primary basketball, an incredible week I understand. Every team won their game. That is quite remarkable! .
Senior Fire and Ice Ball Tickets available now

Another pre-Covid Lockdown planned activity such as the Senior College Ball, is now planned to take place on September 19. Again, I wish to compliment the tenacity of this year’s Ball Committee to make this important event fly in 2020. As outlined last week, our annual Options Evening is going to take place next Thursday at 7.00pm. This is an opportunity to find out about university/tertiary entrance, as well as talk with current teaching staff about subject selection. We welcome students and parents from the entire college to attend, but particularly from Year Ten – Twelve as these students are the ones having to make decisions by the end of this month. I wish to also highlight the movie night happening as you read this newsletter. Again, this is a student led initiate that as always, is highly successful.

Preschool

It’s the final term for eight of our pre-schooler's before they join us at Sunderland Primary!
Our preschool teachers do an excellent job at getting their children ready for school. Teaching them the alphabet, mathematics, phonics, science and writing. Because of this our 24 student centre is in such high demand we already have children enrolling for September 2021! If your child has a younger sibling that would like to attend our preschool please get in touch with Sue Revill, the centre manager or Lauren Fraser, the enrolments officer.

Year Five Camp

Our Year Fives spent three action packed days at the working farm, Lakewood Lodge in Huntly last week! Their days were filled with horse riding, kayaking, flying foxes, climbing walls and much, much more. It was fantastic to see the camaraderie and team building put in by these students which helped build a memorable experience for all. A big thank you to the teachers and parent helpers who made this possible!

House Fundraiser

“Last term, The ACG Sunderland leadership committee supported the Life Education Trust. Throughout the term, our community participated in various events lead by the McDonald House Leaders, such as purchasing Stationery and Exam packs. These were offered before exam week to help our students prepare for exams and collect various merchandise from Life Education. In School, students contributed to the House board game and at the end of the term, participated in the Safari themed mufti day to help support Life Education. In the end, just over $1500.00 was raised through the efforts of the ACG Sunderland community.
Thank you to the ACG Sunderland Community for your amazing contributions to this charity. We are extremely grateful for your support. We will continue to use the entrance at number 44 Patiki Road to access our shop site at number 40 Patiki road until further notice as the site works are taking longer than anticipated– note access is very clearly sign posted to avoid any confusion. Winter opening hours Monday 8.30am – 4.30pm Wednesday 8.30am – 4.30pm Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm Saturday 9.00am – 1.00pm
We are taking good quality uniform items for the second-hand shop. Blazers must be dry cleaned.
Lost Property All lost property can be found by the Second-Hand Uniform Shop.
For your best interest, please name all clothing, lunch boxes and drink bottles as we will return all named items to the students homeroom teacher.
