Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers, What an extraordinary month it has been! Given that we have been providing weekly updates (and early in the month, daily updates), I’ll try and keep this brief. I would like to begin by acknowledging the incredible and unwavering support you have all provided our students and teachers. Without your commitment to your son/daughter’s learning, the virtual school experience would not be possible. You have all reached out for support when needed, provided feedback on a regular basis and your patient and diligent daily approach has been appreciated. Our virtual school delivery has been fully embraced by our teachers and they continue to learn and make adjustments every day. I’m incredibly proud of the way in which our teachers have gone about their work since 2 March. They’ve been incredibly professional, collaborative and disciplined in their work, and many have gone the extra mile to support our students through one-to-one conferencing, chats and parent communication. We’ve certainly got room for improvement and with growth mindsets, I am sure that we will continue to improve our virtual learning experience for our students. Our students have shown perseverance, patience and a real dedication to their school work day in and day out. From kindergarten through to our senior high school students, we have observed real engagement as students have developed new skills and approaches to learning. We all look forward to the ‘new normal,’ but meanwhile must continue to make the most of our current situation. Our current situation means that our Year 6 PYP Exhibition, End of Year examinations and assessments in the secondary school and prizegiving will all be experienced virtually. We are also in the process of planning our e-Graduation for our second IBDP cohort and we will do our best to celebrate and acknowledge their wonderful achievements. Shawn Hutchinson Principal

Message from the Vice Principal - Primary Dear Parents and Caregivers, What a month April has been! We’ve really hit our stride with virtual school this month, as teachers, students, and parents have embraced the new routines and ways of learning. I’m especially proud of our students for their continued commitment to learning and showing their learning in creative ways. This month we celebrated two important holidays, Kartini Day and Earth Day. Students in Primary School learned about Ibu Kartini’s important contributions to women’s rights and education in Indonesia, and some students took it a step further by presenting their learning through videos which were included in our Virtual Primary Assembly. Many students and teachers made Earth Day pledges, sharing ways in which they planned to care for and enjoy our planet. Thank you to those who submitted videos for the assembly! Speaking of the assembly, this month’s assembly was chock full of student, parent, and teacher participation! It was really entertaining to see the ways in which families are spending time at home during this time and watch all of the students dancing and exercising at home for their PE classes. A few students taught us what the Learner Profile of the Month for May and June, Reflective, was all about, and we celebrated the winners of the April Thinker Award Winners. Congratulations to all of you! If you missed the assembly, you can watch it HERE. Lastly, I wanted to congratulate the Year 6 students on making it to their Virtual PYP Exhibition! They’ve spent the last three months researching, taking action, and developing their presentations and are eager to share their learning with the ACG community. Learning at ACG School Jakarta Kindergarten It’s been another busy few weeks of home learning for our amazing Kindergarten students! As always, they have approached their learning with enthusiasm and effort to complete their activities and try their very best. They have developed their measuring, counting, drawing and baking skills, as well as creating their very own reading den in which to read and enjoy all of their storybooks in a quiet, cozy place. They even made their own supermarket, where they collected, sorted and priced up ‘real’ items from their home, before ‘selling’ them to their family members! All of the videos, photos and parent comments shared on Seesaw really do put a smile on our faces each and every day. The Kindergarten team is so proud of the children’s efforts. Well done everyone!
Year 2 Year 2A decided as a class during their daily Zoom call to convey a message to the ACG community via a class collage. Students worked together with their family to creatively come up with a photo of themselves. This activity demonstrated teamwork, as students worked together to brainstorm the message they wished to deliver to our community.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 5 During the fifth unit of inquiry, Where we are in Place and Time, Year 5 spent a few weeks researching and building an ancient or modern building. Their enthusiasm and dedication was very impressive. During the unit, they learned about the ancient and modern wonders of the world, researching why and how they were built as well as garnering information that interested them. They also considered places they had visited. They produced informative slideshows to accompany their work, illustrating how past civilisations contributed to our lives through their discoveries, inventions, laws and the great engineering feats they undertook in order to build such structures. The students employed many skills throughout this project.
Year 7 Students in Year 7 have been using their imagination in science class. They’ve transformed their knowledge into inspiration to shape their lifestyle. Plants, invertebrates, vertebrates, makes our vitual learning fun! Try some of the workouts designed by our young scientists in Year 7 [Etarina, Maika and Yuvika] to keep you relaxed and energized throughout your virtual learning day!
Year 8 Caroline Sewell used to feel tired in school. Now she is able to organize her time and learning more effectively. She has energy during the fasting month. Her energy makes learning more productive and herself more confident.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Primary Pledges for Earth Day My family uses reusable straws. We recycle organic and non-organic waste. We close the water tap while brushing teeth. We only use lights when we need. I always turn off the light when I leave the room. We always take old bags or cotton bags when shopping. My mom donates all our old clothes and toys. I promise that we will use cars less often and will walk and use a bicycle after we move to South Africa, as in Jakarta this is very hard.

Learner Profile of the Month Reflective A Reflective student is one that works to understand his or her strengths and weaknesses to support learning and personal development. This is an ongoing process and one which we can continually develop. Simple steps, like thinking about what has happened and why, will lead a greater understanding . . . and allow for continuous and future improvement. An ACG School Jakarta student has a myriad of opportunities for reflection – in-class schoolwork, projects, and interactions with peers and teachers are all situations that allow for reflection. Students should practice reflection every chance they get as an opportunity for self-growth.
