Clubsound are quite simply our own national treasure so let’s make this tour one to remember. Don’t wait until they actually do retire!

We would remind you that some of the sketches and jokes are of their time and not for the faint-hearted or easily offended.

THE MAN WHO LEFT THE TITANIC

Fri 1 May | 8pm | £15 | £12.50 (conc) R

She was beautiful… she was unsinkable… she was doomed…

On April 15th, 1912, the Titanic, the greatest ship in the world, slipped below the frigid waters of the Atlantic.

Yet J. Bruce Ismay, managing director of the White Star Line, stepped into a lifeboat and sailed away from the stricken ship, sailed away from his passengers, sailed away from the cries and screams and tears.

‘The Man Who Left The Titanic’ evokes that terrible voyage and asks whether Bruce Ismay only did what any of us might have done in the same circumstances, or should his actions that night consign his name to infamy? Was he a coward, or merely human? This play has toured throughout England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales for a number of years to enormous acclaim.

DREAMING OF TROPICAL LIGHT, ON A COLD WINTER NIGHT CIARAN MAGILL

16 Jan - 7 March | Gallery

A solo exhibition of contemporary landscape paintings by County Down artist Ciaran Magill.

Following a research trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall, this show presents a fresh body of work in response to visiting the largest indoor rainforest in the world. The artist sensitively explores the bedazzling effects of tropical light on foliage and raindrops, through reflections and sun-drenched desert island scenes.

Three quarters of the exhibition features paintings of extreme heat, blazing skies, golden sunsets, turquoise waters and brilliant white light, while the final quarter features a series of local winter scenes of snow and ice. The overall exhibition hints at the polarising nature of climate change, with extreme weather often leaving us craving an escape, to either cooler or warmer temperatures.

Magill is fascinated by the endless beauty and diversity of landscapes across the planet and hopes this exhibition captures some of the magic that draws us to these special places.

GALAMSEY: ILLEGAL GOLD MINING AND THE HUMAN PRICE OF WEALTH MARIUSZ ŚMIEJEK

16 Jan - 7 March | Foyer Walls

While gold prices soar to historic highsreaching $80,000 per kilogram in 2024-those working in illegal Galamsey mines earn as little as $3-$5 a week. Nearly a third of Ghana’s gold comes from these hazardous sites, where even children labour with mercury in toxic, unsafe conditions. Africa’s largest gold producer gains little from billions exported abroad for China, India, Switzerland, the U.S., and the UAE, while local communities face poverty, exploitation, and violence.

The environmental toll is devastating; poisoned rivers, polluted water supplies, and rapid deforestation, with tens of thousands of hectares of rainforest destroyed in just a decade. Mariusz Śmiejek is a Polish award-winning socially-engaged documentary photographer and visual storyteller, specialising in the raw narrative of human and social conditions around the world.

His photojournalist book ‘Not Surrendering’ was published in 2023 and his forthcoming publication, ‘Galamsey’, which draws inspiration from the works featured in this exhibition, is scheduled for publication in 2026.

SHIFT REFLECTIONS OF UNKNOWING PATRICK CONYNGHAM

14 March - 9 May | Gallery

The paintings are in the hidden language of change and their numerous manifestations, and are an assimilation of that process in all its mystery. Sometimes the sources are known, sometimes they are not, but either way they become part of the painting.

They are a visual diary with markers or indicators that occur naturally working with a mix of intention and intuition. Colour is used to heighten sensation and with the aim of a raw dynamic, they come into being sequentially and organically. They are an interpretative filtering of the world and universe around us.

Patrick Conyngham was born in County Louth in 1959. He has worked as an artist for the last forty years. He has exhibited widely in Ireland and further afield, including The Tom Caldwell Gallery and The Engine Room in Belfast. He currently lives in County Monaghan.

DISTANT ECHOES MARK MAGEE

15 May - 4 July | Gallery

Mark Magee is an Irish painter whose practice merges social realism with strategies of montage to interrogate memory, cultural identity, and the poetics of place.

Magee revisits the urban landscapes of 1970s Lurgan, where the intimacy of childhood recollection intersects with the political realities of the Troubles. His works restage these environments through a visual palimpsest of figures from pop and cultural icons such as Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust to the emergent punk scene, alongside spectral presences from his own past. In doing so, Magee creates a dialogue between nostalgia, trauma, and collective imagination.
