FERRY PORSCHE

THE PORSCHE 356 AND 911
THE BIRTH OF ICONS
WHILE FERDINAND PORSCHE remained imprisoned after the war, his son Ferry was quietly shaping a new future. He envisioned a sports car that felt alive—light, responsive, and deeply connected to its driver.
“It has always been a philosophy of our company that function and beauty are inseparable.” — Ferry Porsche

A New Definition
The 911 did not simply join the sports car establishment—it rewrote the rules. It proved that a sports car could be compact yet practical, demanding yet usable, refined yet visceral. More than sixty years later, the formula endures. The 911 remains the benchmark not because it chased trends, but because Porsche had the conviction to define its own path.

Emotion Before Modernity
Driving a 964 feels like standing between eras. It retains mechanical presence — noise, vibration, feedback — but introduces a new layer of civility. Emotionally, the 964 represents Porsche’s first successful attempt to modernize the 911 without diluting its soul. It proves that evolution can occur quietly.

The Porsche in Bad Boys (1995)
Detective Mike Lowrey’s 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 is inseparable from the identity of Bad Boys. Wealthy, stylish, and fearless, Lowrey needed a car that projected precision rather than brute force. Director Michael Bay chose the 964 Turbo 3.6—one of the most exclusive and powerful 911 variants of its era.
Producing 360 horsepower, capable of 0–60 mph in four seconds and a top speed of 168 mph, the car was among the fastest production vehicles in the world. It also happened to be Bay’s personal car. The 911 Turbo’s duel with a Shelby Cobra on an airstrip became one of the film’s defining sequences, cementing the Porsche as a 1990s performance icon. In 2022, the same car sold for $1.3 million at auction—far above the $60,000 Bay once received for it. Later films briefly swapped Porsche for Ferrari, but by Bad Boys for Life (2020), the franchise returned to Porsche with a 992 Carrera 4S, and in Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), Lowrey graduates to a 992 Turbo S—650 horsepower and 0–60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The circle closes where it began: Turbo to Turbo.
