My First Book of the Garden

Page 1

Hello!

I am LALLY the Ladybug and I live in a beautiful backyard. I am a bit distracted and while I was flying, I lost one of my black spots. I wonder where it is! Could you help me find it in the backyard?

FOLLOW ME!

Do you know what a ladybug looks like?

I am RED and I have lots of LITTLE BLACK SPOTS on my body. Even though one has disappeared . . .

I can even FLY! Well, not quite like a bird but I do my best.
I am the same size as the tip of your finger!

Let’s start by asking Mr. Caterpillar if he has seen my spot! You’d better be quick, soon he’ll turn into a wonderful butterfly!

Trace the path with your finger to discover the caterpillar’s transformation!

Look, here are the butterflies! Let’s ask them, too. Follow them quietly so you do not frighten them away. Trace the outline of the butterflies’ wings with your finger. Some of them are big and others are small!

There are lots of soft leaves where I sleep in the backyard.

Do you think I might have lost my spot there?

Trace the outline of the leaves with your finger. What a variety of shapes there are!

Follow the path with your finger and find out what tree they belong to.

MAPLE BIRCH

Or could it have got caught in the flower petals?

There are lots of different colors and shapes!

DAISY ROSE

Trace the outline of the flowers with your finger, they are all so different!

HYACINTH

Look! There’s something black on those flowers!

Can you see it, too? Do you think it could be my spot?

Find out what it is!

Follow the path with your finger.

Hey!

There’s something behind that blade of grass! Could it be my spot? No, they are insects and animals as small as I am!

SPIDER

Let’s go and ask my friends the birds. Maybe they can see better from up high! Trace the outline of the birds with your finger and find out their names.

SPARROW
ROBIN

BLACKBIRD

TITMOUSE

Oh no . . .

I’m starting to lose hope. We might never find it . . . SIGH . . . SIGH . . . Oh wait!

I have an idea: we can ask my friends who live underground.

MOLE
MOUSE

Trace the outlines of the animals with your finger and then find out who they are!

EARTHWORM

Oh my gosh!

It is so late! It’s already dark! Let’s ask my nocturnal friends.

Follow the path with your finger to find the animals that are hiding in the dark.

OWL

What a shame, no one has seen my spot. But do you know what, I think I look just fine without it! And I am happy, because while we were looking for my little spot, I was able to introduce you to all my backyard friends!
