BODEGA CAT WITH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES Artwork by Simone Johnson 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

Bodega cats are as essential to New York City as the subway! The skyscrapers! The yellow cabs! Or some (including us) might argue. Bodega cats are cute, sure, but really, they’re around to keep mice out of bodegas, which are mainstays of NYC culture. Simone Johnson is their eager and gifted portraitist, capturing them at work—which is to say, napping on crates of fruits, stacks of canned beans, and amidst twelve packs of beer, one eye always open for intruders.

PEACOCK TIGER Artwork by Kour Pour 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

Peacock Tiger is one of a series of remarkable large scale painting/block prints that LA based artist Kour Pour has created in recent years. This one is our personal favorite and, as it so happens, the artist's favorite as well. Recently granted US citizenship, Pour's experience as an immigrant with a mixed-raced background is the foundation of his work. Weaving together representational imagery, abstract patterning, and ornamental elements, he creates new hybrid artworks that trace cultural exchange around the globe.

BOUQUET WITH CUPCAKE (DESSERT) Artwork by Alec Egan 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

The pleasures of Alec Egan's Bouquet with Cupcake (Dessert) are pretty simple. Flowers are beautiful and he paints them beautifully. And cupcakes are delicious. There's really no need to overthink this, even though Alec certainly hasover and over again throughout his floral patterned, Laura Ashley inspired, body of work. This bouquet doesn't need much in the way of unpacking. It's just that nice to look at.

BATTLE OF MALIBU (IN THREE PARTS) 1795: PART ONE, SEE BATTLE. LITTLE RED CORVETTE. Artwork by Umar Rashid 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

Did the Battle of Malibu actually happen? Probably not. Ok, definitely not. But also maybe it did? LA based artist Umar Rashid decided that it would be cool if it had happened so for all intents and purposes it did. And if the Chumash, Tongva, Gabrielino, and other indigenous LA types had in fact gone on to fight the Frenglish empire, armed with a little red Corvette driven by Black Jesus, then, well, we'd have liked to see that. So here it is. It happened.

A NEW STAR RISING Artwork by Rusudan Khizanishvili 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

In A New Star Rising the Georgian painter Rusudan Khizanishvili enmeshes the traditional mother and child theme with other archetypes— the dizzyingly colorful elements of folk art, the unrestrained forms of expressionism. Here, the literally golden child and his blue-haired mother are a part of the fabric of the natural world, which is vibrant...except, that is, for the shadowy figure behind them, who may just be there to remind us that wherever there’s light and beauty, there tends to be darkness, too.

HOOKAH HOUSE Artwork by Orkideh Torabi 1,000 Piece Puzzle

12.48/24.95

In Iran-born, Chicago based, artist Orkideh Torabi’s Hookah House a vibrant scene unfolds across many rooms, scenes of men drinking, smoking, and gabbing away in their safe space away from the womenfolk. The narrative here is culled from Torabi’s memories of gender segregated spaces in Iran and features her ever growing cast of male characters, men both good and not so good- some just plain ridiculousenjoying their little man-made worlds.
