The founder of Kettle’s Yard, H.S. ‘Jim’ Ede described himself as a ‘friend to artists’. He corresponded with many over his lifetime, among them Constantin Brâncuși, Barbara Hepworth, Joan Miró and Alfred Wallis. Kettle’s Yard Art & Artists provides a window into Ede’s lively engagement with and support of modern and contemporary artists across many decades, gathering previously unpublished letters and other writings from the Kettle’s Yard archive. Richly illustrated with newly commissioned photography by Gilbert McCarragher, this book gives an introductory insight into the art, lives and friendships of 34 key artists in the Kettle’s Yard collection.
