Pr i ncipal’s Message

Dear Pirate Community, It is my hope that this newsletter finds you and your family healthy and safe. I am excited that the start of the new school year for 2023/24 is just a few days away. I am looking forward to welcoming both staff and students back to school. It has been a very busy summer on campus. The major repairs to the facility due to the hurricane last fall are nearing completion and the custodial team is almost done readying our classrooms and common areas for teachers and students. I know everyone is excited about getting back into our media center and auditorium at the start of the school year. Academically, our community can be proud of what our staff and students have accomplished this past school year. Even though school grades do not officially come out until the fall, the testing data that we do have indicates that our school grade will be higher than the previous school year. Some highlights include being first in the school district in math achievement, science achievement, and the most growth overall. In Advanced Placement (AP) compared to the previous school year, we increased our overall pass rate and the total number of exams passed increased from 179 to 232 (23% increase). Later this fall we will also receive the number of passed Cambridge AICE exams as well as the number of students that earned their AP and AICE diplomas. It was an outstanding academic school year, and each of us should take a moment to celebrate what has been accomplished. Just a reminder to our all of our students that Open House is Monday, August 7th. Students in the 9th grade should be in the big gym at 5:30 pm continued on page 2
