Hello Senators! With the 24/25 school year up and running, we have made great strides in academics, performing arts and athletics. We are approaching the end of the first semester, and we encourage you to come out and enjoy an athletic event or extra-curricular performance during the next few months. You can check out our school website www.duvalschools.org/fhs for announcements about upcoming events and performances. The continuous improvement in overall academics was evident in our first round of progress monitoring assessments. Fletcher students outscored our previous year’s performance in Geometry and Biology. We will continue to challenge our students to show improvement during their second round of progress monitoring assessments, which will begin at the end of November. The PMAs provide a snapshot of students’ progress at this point in time. Teachers will review this data, meet with each student, and plan a path to success for the remainder of the school year. This strategy will help ensure students demonstrate mastery in their classes and on state assessments. After the assessment, students should be able to articulate to you how they are doing now, and what they need to do to show improvement. A huge congratulations goes out to Maxwell Fitzgerald and Justin Sreng for being named Semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship. We would also like to congratulate Eliana Blank, Mason Fisher, Nolen Khalili and Charlotte O’Donnel for receiving letters of commendation. The Fletcher High School Band competed throughout the season and has advanced to the State Championships. The National Art Honor Society will have a booth at the North Beach Art Walk on November 21st from 5 to 8 p.m. Not only have we reached outstanding marks in academics and the arts, but we have also accomplished great things in athletics. Both Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving won the Gateway Championship as well as the District Championship. Boy’s Golf won the Gateway Conference Championship and District Championship. Our Winter Sports have begun, and we have attached their schedules in this newsletter. The FHS faculty and administration strongly encourages all our parents to monitor your child’s grades and attendance through FOCUS. We recommend checking this information at least once a week. Frequent progress monitoring and communication with your child’s teachers is highly correlated with student success in high school. If you are still in need of a parent log-in, please visit the Duval County Website and follow the link for Parent Portal information. Again, thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at our various fall and winter events. Feel free to contact your students’ teachers for available times to meet with you to discuss students’ progress. We will continue to raise the standard of excellence at Fletcher High School to maintain our goal of being recognized as one of the premier high schools in the county. Thank you for all that you do, and as always Go Senators!! Dean Ledford
