THE RIGHT GAME PLAN ALWAYS WINS.

A Sexcel® and Beef InFocus® strategy delivers unbeatable genetic progress, driving profitability for you.

Implement a WINNING GAME PLAN to make better cows faster and produce the most sought-after beef crosses in the industry.

Diversity Matters in an Evolving Dairy Industry

The dairy industry continues to evolve. If we compare dairying 20 years ago to today, we see more technology adoption, automation, and access to better data that drives decisions. The shift to increase female selection intensity and the use of genomic bulls over proven is apparent on-farm. Not to mention, general industry changes include an increasing average herd size as well as a gene pool that is more protected than ever before.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO YOU?

It’s simple. To weather the storm of an ever-changing industry, it’s critical to have a tailored genetic plan that enhances YOUR efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. You could be leaving dollars on the table with genetic selection based solely on what the industry deems important, today’s most popular bull, or this Sire Summary’s highest-ranking sires. Subsequently, continuously using a single sire line because of its high-ranking status could put your dairy at risk and open the door for harmful recessives to appear.

Our goal is to drive genetic progress faster, but it’s our duty to also do it in a responsible way that preserves genetic diversity and protects our customers. We aim to create balanced sires that are strong for many traits and have very few weaknesses because they generate healthier, more fit, more productive, and more fertile cows. Our performance during this Sire Summary proves our genetic diversity not only protects our customers but supports them in reaching their goals.

A BALANCED PORTFOLIO

Genetic diversity continues to be an important discussion point. Over the years, the dairy industry has seen more germplasm protection, fewer breeder herds, high IVF and flushing costs, and increased use of genomics and selection intensity, making it challenging to maintain genetic diversity in any breeding plan.

This means genetics companies must uphold strong breeding programs to ensure success for producers. However, it’s safe to say not everyone takes this as seriously as we do, which is unfortunate. Your future depends on it.

ABS launched 27 bulls this Sire Summary by 14 different sires from 12 different maternal grandsires, showcasing true genetic progress and diversity.

ABS has been taking steps to maintain a strong genetic nucleus for years now. Here’s how.

» The complete acquisition of De Novo gives us access to a wide range of bloodlines, high-ranking females, and desired IVF sessions.

» Purchasing high-ranking females or IVF sessions outside of ABS bloodlines guarantees our ability to create and offer diverse genetics.

» Because we have our own Research and Development department, we can create solutions for the future from within—most co-ops don’t have the ability to invest like we can.

PERFORMANCE OF KEY BLOODLINES

U.S. HOLSTEINS

29HO20684 LEEDS added his first early milking daughters to his proof. He went up +30 NM$ to more than $1,000 NM$ and over 2,000 pounds Milk. His legacy continues with his 41 sons who are bred from 17 different maternal grandsires, average 138

pounds Combined Fat and Protein, and all are producing Sexcel.

29HO19973 BENEFIT now has 112 milking daughters and strengthened his position as one of the highest TPI proven bulls in the world. BENEFIT has a big impact on our breeding program, with 7 sons and 21 grandsons in production, all while still producing well himself.

14 sons of ABS Legend, 29HO19773 DUFFY from 10 different maternal grandsires are now available. They all average over 900 pounds. for Milk, +3.8 Productive Life, +0.42 CCR, and are globally available. The best part? All of them are available in Sexcel!

POLLED HOLSTEINS

Today, 20% of our active Holstein sires available in Sexcel carry the polled gene! They’re all selected with the same ABS profitability traits and offer the added benefit of less hassle, reduced cost, and positive animal welfare by being POLLED! You get no horns and no production compromises with ABS Polled sires. This Sire Summary we launched

4 new single P sires and 1 PP, and ABS maintained its powerful polled position with 23 of the top 30 NM$ P bulls on the industry list with a stud code.

LINEAR CHOICE

Our Linear Choice lineup is for producers looking to create strong, healthy, and balanced cows from established cow families that are productive in commercial dairies. ABS launched 2 new Linear Choice sires this Sire Summary. 94HO21962 BLISS is an early Hotwheels son with 3343 TPI siring high milk, strong fertility and great type. 29HO22188 ELON-MUSK is a Blakely son with a positive DPR, +1.33 PTAT, and +1.53 Udders.

JERSEYS

We have also launched 7 new Jersey sires, bred from 6 different sires and 4 different maternal grandsires. These elite bulls average $612 CM$ with a great diversity in production and health traits that is sure to suit all customer needs. These include grandsons of 29JE4305 JAMMER who had a great day becoming the #1 Proven JPI and #2 proven CM$ sire in the breed! The Jersey lineup is comprised of 10 sires over +180 JPI, 16 sires at 1,000 pounds of Milk or more, 20 sires above +4.0 Productive Life, 13 sires more than +1.5 Cow Conception Rate, and 21 sires at +15 JUI or higher.

BEST SUITED TO MEET A VARIETY OF GOALS AND NEEDS

Our lineup is unmatched in the industry when it comes to elite genetics in diverse packages. Because every dairy is unique, we strive to offer a large variety of sires that meet distinct customer goals.

Let’s take two real life customer scenarios. Do either sound like you?

CUSTOMER #1

This specific dairy producer is looking for high weights of Fat and Protein to maximize their cheese contract, alongside that they want cows that live longer and get back in calf quicker. The producer also wants their cows to be average sized to fit the farm’s current facilities and have functional udders, legs, and feet.

A quick search on Bull Search shows that ABS has 78 bulls from 36 different sires and 31 different MGS that fit the criteria for this producer’s goals.

CUSTOMER #2

Another dairy producer is searching for a bull that helps them reach their herd goals of significant Milk pounds improvements and increases in herd fertility and longevity. This producer also values good conformation cows with great udders.

If you were to pull up this sort on Bull Search, you would find 70 bulls from 44 different sires and 44 different MGS that are a perfect fit for this producer’s goals.

NOT JUST ABOUT GENETICS

Because sexed semen is a commonplace tool today, its benefits can sometimes be considered ‘a given’ on a dairy. Let’s not forget. Sexed semen is a powerful tool that allows you to precisely manage heifer inventories, increase your herd size, and improve your herd’s lifetime genetic value—just to name a few.

Sexcel combines all of that and more into one straw. The most advanced sexed semen technology, exceptional

fertility, the most profitable ABS genetics, Sexcel is proven to fast forward your herd’s genetic progress. We are proud to offer our diverse set of balanced, genetically elite sires in a reliable product designed and validated with your success in mind.

» We have had record global Sexcel production in the past three months, with 322 dairy bulls currently producing Sexcel in North America alone. This is due to our continued investment to be the best in the industry and working cross-functionally to improve internal processes.

» 64 new Holstein, Jersey, and Brown Swiss have been identified to produce their first units of Sexcel in September.

YOUR GENETIC PLAN

For us, it’s not about making bulls that hit the “top list.” We are dedicated to creating sustainable, profitable genetics that work for you. We want to create a genetic plan that is tailored to your herd, maximizes your milk check by focusing on your market, and minimizes your daily challenges by helping you improve weaknesses. In the end, the ultimate question is: what do you value in your genetics?

Your genetic selection should consider the following, not just industry popularity.

» How are you paid?

» What challenges do you face?

» Why do cows leave your dairy?

» What is your operation like?

» What is your environment like?

When you plan like this, you’re planning for the bigger picture—your future.

AVERAGE NM$ BY STUD AND BULL RELEASE YEAR

» The chart is the genetic trend for NM$ by bull class.

» The ABS group has the highest average of the three years.

» It takes 100s of bulls to supply genetics to our customers which is why it is important to look at the whole group as those in the top 100 can only supply a small portion.

» Although we illustrate in NM$, we believe that customers should have a genetic plan that matches their goals.

» The chart is the genetic trend for CM$ by bull class.

» Because it takes many Jersey bulls to supply genetics to our customers, it is critical to look at the whole group as the top 40 can only supply a small portion.

» The average of the group of bulls we market leads the industry.

» Although we illustrate in CM$, we believe that customers should have a genetic plan that matches their goals.

For ABS, 29HO and 29JE stud code, US-based bulls were used for the averages; the St. Jacobs product line was not included.

THE POWER OF POLLED

Horned cattle are more prevalent in the global dairy population because few producers are choosing to select genetics for polled cattle. Genetic selection for production, health, and conformation traits have historically trumped the selection of polled genetics. It was kind of one or the other—but not anymore!

Times are changing as the desire to create polled cattle increases. Public awareness of dehorning practices is a main driver in recent polled genetic selections. Naturally hornless cattle appeal to off-farm consumers from an animal welfare perspective, but as a producer, eliminating dehorning promotes calf welfare, reduces management practices, and increases safety for those working on dairies.

POLLED: THE DOMINANT GENE

Most do not realize the polled gene is dominant. In simple terms, animals with one copy of the polled gene and one copy of the horned gene will not have horns. The illustration below demonstrates the breeding outcomes of using homozygous or heterozygous polled bulls. It is important to note that if you are working towards a polled herd, you can use a heterozygous polled (Pp) sire with 50% of the resulting calves being polled. You can also use a homozygous polled (PP) sire, resulting in 100% of the calves being polled. This means you can create a naturally hornless animal in one generation. Because the polled gene is dominant, this allows us to create polled animals faster than if the gene were recessive.

PHENOTYPES & GENOTYPES KEY

HORNED

PP = True Polled (Homozygous)

Animal has no horns and all offspring will be born without horns. Pp = Polled (Heterozygous)

Animal does not have horns, but offspring may or may not have horns depending on their mate.

pp = Horned (Recessive)

Animal will be born with horns.

ST. JACOBS

TYPE WITHOUT COMPROMISE OF KEY DAIRY TRAITS

The St. Jacobs brand has a long-standing history of bringing bulls to the marketplace that will not only sire beautiful cows but cows that are very productive and fertile. The goal of the St. Jacobs brand is to create cows that last longer, are more profitable, and of course, just good to look at!

We invest in the most elite genetics in all ABS programs to give our customers the best opportunity to build cows that fit the needs of their system. St. Jacobs is no exception. Take a moment to get to know each of the programs within the St. Jacobs brand.

LINEAR CHOICE

The St. Jacobs brand should no longer be considered as genetics only suitable for the showring. Knowing some of our customers are looking for balanced cows, we launched Linear Choice. These sires are selected strategically based on their ability to create balanced cows that work in commercial dairies. These sires are proven to produce dairy cows that are well-built, productive, and healthy. This lineup includes sires featuring right side linear that will generate moderate size cows with strong production and health traits. Form meets function with Linear Choice!

ST. JACOBS CHOICE

Trust in St. Jacobs Choice to deliver type without compromise. St. Jacobs Choice was born after the fusion of Judge’s Choice and Breeder’s Choice. Those of you may remember that Judge’s Choice is how St. Jacobs got started with a primary focus on show type animals. Over time, selection began to focus on great functional type but with better production and health traits, thus, Breeder’s Choice evolved. The combination of two foundational lineups in one program is your opportunity to create functional cows who you’ll love to look at

RED AND WHITE CHOICE

Our Red and White Choice program is stacked with sires tracing back to the most elite Red and White cow families in the breed. Similar to St. Jacobs Choice, Red and White Choice sires are also selected for more production and health traits along with type to make outstanding and productive cows. With this program, we mix the best of today’s Black and White genetics into the Red and White population. However, all sires in the lineup will be Red and White.

JERSEY CHOICE

Jersey Choice is your opportunity to use some of the most elite Jersey genetics. Similar to St. Jacobs Choice, Jersey Choice strives to deliver type without compromise. This lineup is focused on providing for those customers interested in creating high type Jersey animals. Our Jersey Choice lineup includes sires that offer balanced genetics with production and health to go along with genomic type, specifically high Jersey Udder Index numbers

COMPONENT COLLECTION

Component Collection includes sires from the Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, and Guernsey breeds. Much like the rest of the St. Jacobs product offerings, these sires are selected from their respective breed’s most elite genetic lines. It is important to note that the Component Collection program is not a program you can enroll in.

BEEF INFOCUS®

PROVEN DAIRY PERFORMANCE WITH BEEF SUPPLY CHAIN MARKETABILITY

Today, we see more beef cross calves created than ever before as dairies zero in on their genetic selection and turn up the selection intensity. Utilizing beef sires on lower genetic quality females has been a game changer for the industry. It is the common genetic management strategy. However, this means the beef supply chain sees more beef cross calves enter the market than ever before.

As a result, feeders and packers are looking for high-quality and predictable beef animals to put in their systems. The fact is there is still a vast variation in the quality of beef cross calves in the marketplace. This means the beef supply will continue to put increased pressure on separating superior beef cross cattle from genetic beef on dairy. Because the beef supply chain is compensating high-end beef cross cattle the need to differentiate your dairy by producing a premium product is far greater as market competition increases.

Beef InFocus is your ticket to producing a premium beef cross animal, and the beef supply chain is recognizing that.

THREE DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS OF BEEF INFOCUS

1. BRED BY DESIGN

Beef InFocus® is powered by ABS Global’s exclusive terminal beef genetic line, NuEra Genetics®, which is a SimAngus hybrid line designed as an ideal terminal solution that maximizes productivity, efficiency, and sustainability while complementing the dairy cow

2. VALIDATED FOR DAIRY PERFORMANCE

Before any sire makes it to our Beef InFocus lineup, we measure their predicted performance compared to more than 4 million fertility records on over 1,000 farms and 1.6 million calving events to ensure they meet our program thresholds.

3. BEEF SUPPLY CHAIN MARKETABILITY

With a strong emphasis on terminal traits in our genetics, we have established beef supply chain networks that recognize the value of Beef InFocus and the investment we have made creating the highest quality beef crosses the market has to offer.

Maximize returns by creating the highest-quality beef cross calves the market has to offer with Beef InFocus.

To enter the Beef InFocus program, sires must be identified as the best terminal genetics by our NuEra Profit Index and complete rigorous testing to validate performance on dairy. We’ve added a step to determine the best use of each sire which is a phenotypic evaluation of frame and muscle score. Based on this evaluation, sires who best complement the Jersey and Jersey-influenced population are identified with the notation of recommended for Jersey.
