ABILENE, TX - In the heart of Key City, automotive passion and engineering expertise come alive under the leadership of Andy White Jr., and his family. A native of Colorado City, Andy has made Abilene his home since the age of five, and he has an impressive 62-year history in this vibrant community. Deeply rooted in the world of engines and racing, his family’s legacy continues to thrive and grow. As the proud co-owner of Industrial Engine, Inc., Andy carries forward a family tradition that began with his father, Andrew White, Sr., during the Texas oil boom of 1963. Joining his father in the family venture as a teenager, Andy specialized in crafting, advising on, troubleshooting, and maintaining large production engines vital for seizing oil from the depths of the earth. “Our engines keep American oil flowing,” he asserts, and this commitment to quality has established them as a trusted choice in markets across the globe. In 1988, Andy confidently took the reins of the family business from his father, marking a new chapter while reflecting on the enduring ties that bind them. “This has been a family business since day one,” he asserts. Today, he shares ownership with his son Justin, who has emerged as an exceptional talent in his own right. Andy speaks proudly of his son’s development, stating, “I couldn’t be prouder of the skills he has honed.” The relationship between father and son goes beyond mere business—it is rooted in a shared knowledge and a strong work ethic that defines their operations. They both deeply appreciate the time they spend together running the family business, committed to building on a legacy of hard work and success that has spanned generations.

But it’s not just the family business that fuels Andy's passion; it’s the thrilling world of racing. His love for cars ignited in childhood, thanks to his father's involvement in drag racing during the 1970s. "Cars and racing became another family enterprise, just like Industrial Engine, Inc.," he reflects. From racing boats to the NHRA circuit, Andy's father transformed his fascination with powerful engines into an exciting hobby.

Andy fondly recalls his father's Chevrolet Monza, nicknamed "Shag," which made its mark in the pro stock division. The family traveled the nation, chasing adrenaline-fueled memories at venues across the country. "In the last year my father had 'Shag' on the track, we competed in 13 national events… The 'Wally' trophy earned at the 1976 Spring Nationals now resides in my home, a testament to those years spent working side by side," he reminisces. This passion reaches new heights as Andy shares it with his wife, Linda. Since tying the knot in 2002, the couple has woven their lives together in a partnership that beautifully integrates their individual interests. Though she missed Andy's early racing days, Linda readily immersed herself in the excitement of the sport, attending NASCAR and NHRA events alongside him. Her determination to learn driver names and car sponsors highlighted her commitment to engaging in something that inspired her husband, proving that love can truly rev up the passion for speed. Linda’s talents as a teacher translated seamlessly into her burgeoning interest in automobiles. With a keen eye for detail, she assessed cars at various shows, enhancing her appreciation for the artistry and engineering involved. Her enthusiasm led her to attend a class focused on the criteria for judging cars, allowing her to dive deeper into this shared hobby and fostering a unique bond between them. Their adventures on two wheels became a significant aspect of their relationship as well. Linda fully embraced the excitement of riding on Andy’s Harley Davidson Low Rider. A particularly amusing memory was when she was invited to a dinner where she had to bring dessert. There they were, riding down the road together with a pie in each hand, a testament to her willingness to immerse herself in her husband’s interests. Andy's love for classic cars and racing didn't just stop with him; it's a spark that has ignited a fire in his son, Justin. Justin's journey into racing began early, fueled by his father's unwavering support and his grandfather's lasting influence. "My grandfather played a significant role in my life and taught me a great deal," he reminisces. This deep-rooted family bond shines through in his prized possession: a 1971 Chevy Nova hot rod that he crafted alongside his dad. Under the hood, a powerful Chevy small block engine teams up with an F1 ProCharger and a seamless Powerglide
transmission. The ride features Calvert Racing suspension, retains the original back seat, and boasts aftermarket front seats, all while gripping the road with Mickey Thompson Pro 275 tires. This project is more than just a car; it’s a treasure trove of memories, a heartfelt gift from his grandfather. The automotive enthusiasm runs deep in this family, as Justin’s young son, Austin, is equally captivated by cars, following in the footsteps of his dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He’s especially fond of his dad's hot rod and dreams of one day calling it his own. Z/28, a car that holds profound sentimental value. "It was deliberately purchased and restored to replicate the car I built during high school," he shares with a nostalgic grin. This Camaro is more than just a sleek machine; it’s a powerful reminder of youthful adventures and the thrill of the open road. Restoring this beauty was no quick task. Andy devoted four years to an off-frame restoration, meticulously ensuring every detail was nothing short of perfection. Under the hood, the Camaro roars with a powerful 355CI Small Block Chevy engine, outfitted with an aluminum number 8 Brodix cylinder head, Childs and Albert rods, and Brooks pistons. “This engine is the heart of the car,” he explains, a look of pride beaming from him as he talks about the craftsmanship involved. But the impressive specs don’t end there. With an ISAY camshaft, Crane roller rocker and stud girdle, and Headmond 2” headers, this Camaro is designed for performance enthusiasts. paired with a Hurst shifter ensures every gear shift delivers pure joy. On the performance front, the Camaro is equipped with a robust 12-Bolt Rear End featuring 3.73 gears and Caltac rear suspension, ready to tackle any road or track challenge. The combination of Drag Radial tires in the rear and Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires in the front ensures optimal grip for both street and strip. This beauty also boasts Welp Alumastar wheels, Aerospace disc brakes, and an eye-catching 4” cowl hood, making it a showstopper wherever it rolls. "Gathering with others that share your interests is what we all enjoy doing," he says, emphasizing the importance of community in car culture. THE INSPIRING RESTORATION JOURNEY OF A HIGHBOY TRUCK TEXT BY ADAM MITCHELL
ABILENE, TX - In the Key City, where classic car culture thrives, Thomas Toy and his team of talented craftsmen have established themselves as one of the leading restoration specialists in the industry. Since founding Seven Horses Restoration in 2015, they have transformed numerous classic cars and trucks. However, one project in 2023 stood out not only for its mechanical challenges but also for its sentimental history: the restoration of James “JT” Thompson’s 1976 Ford Highboy. James, a proud Salt Lake City native, approached Thomas with a Highboy that had seen better days, left to languish in his driveway for two years. When purchased, the truck was a shadow of its former self, cloaked in rust and sporting a lackluster engine. To most, it was just an old truck, but for James, it was a vessel of nostalgia. He and his brother had owned a similar truck in their youth, forging countless memories together—memories steeped in aspirations of restoring it after their military service. From their very first meeting, Thomas sensed the emotional weight behind James’s truck. As they discussed the restoration, it became clear that this wasn’t merely about aesthetics or performance; it was a heartfelt tribute to James’s brother, who tragically did not return after serving in the Marines. The restoration was quickly transformed from a simple rebuild into a poignant memorial.

In September 2022, eager to kick off the project, James and his brother-in-law, Scott, dropped the Highboy off at the shop months in advance. They could hardly contain their excitement, as James shared ideas that quickly escalated the scope of the intended restoration. What began as a simple paint job morphed into an extensive frame-off reconstruction, driven by the rusted reality of the aging truck. The team at Seven Horses dove headfirst into the restoration, opting for a meticulous approach that entailed sourcing parts from a donor truck. The frame was media-blasted and adorned with a sublime Midnight Metallic and Silver finish that highlighted the rugged character inherent in the Highboy. However, as the restoration gained momentum, James made a pivotal request: he wanted to bring back the original engine, an iconic 390 fourspeed. “The clutch pedal is still there; it’s just cut off,” he said, emphasizing that using the original engine was integral to honoring his brother’s memory. This shift transformed the project from a restoration into a living tribute, a vehicle charged with memories and meaning. Amid the mechanical intricacies, James shared heartfelt stories about his brother, a fellow Marine, further deepening Thomas’s commitment to honoring the bond they shared. While they

discussed the idea of incorporating Operation Pay It Forward (OPIF) into the project to honor veterans, James was careful not to inscribe his brother’s name. He was cognizant of how such a gesture might affect his family, revealing his deep respect for his brother’s memory. As time raced toward the project’s completion, red tape and unforeseen circumstances delayed James’s hopes of unveiling the Highboy at OPIF's annual event in Salt Lake City. But fate intervened, and the new reveal would coincide with **Saturday, November 11th**—Veterans Day—adding an extra layer of significance to the moment. In a moment of inspiration, Thomas organized a surprise unveiling at the Toys for Tots Car Show, perfectly linking the restoration to the spirit of generosity and camaraderie with the Marine Corps. With support from an old friend, Marc Newman from the Big Country Car Clubs, and the organizers of the Toys for Tots Car Show and Toy Drive, they collaborated with local U.S. Marines to bring gifts and joy to less fortunate children in the Big Country. Their involvement made this event possible. The excitement in the air was palpable as Thomas jokingly advised James to “bring some tissues just in case,” foreshadowing the emotional journey ahead. 24 ISSUE 9 | ABILENE MOTORS MAGAZINE

Initially, it was expected that James would maintain his composure, given his earlier assertions about not being overly sentimental. Yet, the culmination of memories hit him hard. Approaching the truck, James was hit with an overwhelming realization—this wasn’t merely a restored Highboy; it was a revival of shared dreams and brotherhood. The moment captured years of hopes, sacrifices, and cherished memories, proving that in the realm of classic car restoration, passion and personal stories intertwine to create something truly special. At the completion of this monumental project, the collaborative effort transformed the old Ford Highboy into something far beyond metal and paint. Friends in the restoration community rallied together, including Vince Nigro of Salt Garage, who designed the OPIF and marine graphics, and talented artists like Joe and Jody Pichardo, who crafted the custom upholstery. The restoration showcased the spirit of camaraderie that drives the automotive world. ABILENE, TX - The 3rd Annual Heroes 4 A Cause Car Show roared into the Mall of Abilene, transforming the parking lot into a breathtaking showcase that thrilled automotive enthusiasts and community supporters alike. This year’s event strikingly combined a love for cars with a noble mission, raising vital funds for local non-profits while presenting a stellar lineup of vehicles. Spearheaded by Leslie Sepeda, the owner of Abilene Auto Spa, this year’s event marked a significant milestone as it was hosted independently for the first time, showcasing Leslie’s prowess in the car show scene.
Leslie couldn’t hide her appreciation for the incredible support she received throughout the day. The local Abilene Chamber of Commerce stepped up in a big way, providing volunteers and business sponsorships that highlighted the essence of community collaboration. “The support I received was overwhelming,” Leslie remarked. “This year was my first without a partnership with a local car club managing logistics, and balancing fundraising with the event was not easy, but the Chamber’s involvement truly made all the difference.”
Local car clubs played a pivotal role in the show’s success, with classic car enthusiasts gathering at daybreak to display their passion. Among them, the Keepers Car Club stood out, exemplifying the camaraderie that fuels Abilene’s automotive scene. “They were my biggest supporters, ensuring everything ran seamlessly from the moment the gates opened,” Leslie conveyed, emphasizing the unity that defines the local car culture.

show was a visual feast for attendees. Ranging from vintage classics to modern marvels, the lineup offered enthusiasts a thrilling experience as they strolled through rows of polished paint and gleaming chrome. The atmosphere buzzed with revving engines and the joyful laughter of families bonding over their shared passion for all things automotive. Among the attendees was Melinda Blay, the Fundraising Manager for Hendrick Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network, the non-profit organization benefiting from the event. “She spent most of the day with me and introduced me to a young man and his family who had greatly benefited from the hospital’s services when he was a child,” Leslie recalled fondly. “It was an honor to meet them and hear their heartfelt gratitude for Heroes 4 A Cause.“ This touching moment highlighted the profound impact of the car show, ISSUE 9 | ABILENE MOTORS MAGAZINE 35

As the day drew to a close, the sun shone brightly and the aroma of delicious bites wafted from four bustling food trucks lining the venue, keeping energy high among attendees.
