Kährs have a proud history working with wood production dating back to 1857.
In 1941 we registered the first patent for what is known as engineered wooden floors, a ground-breaking innovation at that time.
Fast forward to today, and our factory remains at the same location as 1857. And we have grown to become one of Europe’s largest producers of engineered wooden

Surface design features are important considerations when choosing an engineered wooden floor, but this is only 50% of the factors that need to be judged when selecting a floor that will last for generations. All natural wood products live and breathe with you. Although not noticeable to you, wood swells and shrinks with the changes in humidity as the wood cells exchange moisture with the surrounding environment. Simply put, your floor will move with the seasons, hence it is key to produce an engineered wooden floor that will restrict this movement.
Kährs engineer all our wood flooring products to withstand the harshest of climates, coming from Sweden we are used to long winter months and high humidity summers and under floor heating. Over the last 100 years we have perfected how to engineer a wood floor to not only last a season but for generations.
By only using a softwood middle layer we produce a floor that is more stable when compared to wooden floors that have a plywood middle layer. We also avoid using plywood as it requires more glue between the ply-layers which can increase the amount of VOC’s.
We also take it a step further ensuring the softwood growth rings are placed in a vertical position during manufacturing, that adds further stability to the floor.
Our engineered locking joints are also not visible when the floor has been installed, but these joints will ensure that your floor remains gap free unlike Tongue & Groove joints that tend to gap over time due to movement. Our patented locking joints allow our floors to be fully bonded or floated in an easy and quick installation method.

Floors that go beyond expectations.
To design and produce a wooden floor to not only look beautiful and to last for generations it needs to be produced in a certain way. We also believe wooden floors should come in long length planks as standard, and not in nested or random lengths. We know it would be cheaper to produce our products in nested or random lengths, but we believe it would affect the overall design and performance of the floor.
We believe that wooden floors should have a patented locking joint such as our Woodloc 5s, suitable to be a floating floor or be fully bonded by professional installers who can guarantee a gap free floor. We know it would be cheaper to work with a T&G joint system, but we feel this offers inferior quality especially when installing as a floating floor.
At Kahrs you can be reassured we only work with long lengths and patented locking joints, and we don’t look to charge more for what we believe should be standard as other brands do.

The main indoor sources of chemical pollutants are building materials and construction products.
We can see home owners are becoming more educated on the link between healthy indoor air quality and the building products they place into their home, and have deep questions around the use of chemicals, VOC emissions & PFAS.
At Kährs we welcome questions on the materials and substances that go into our products, as we are fully present in each step of the manufacturing process within our factories.
Some suppliers may be nervous when being asked very direct questions on what chemicals are in their products, as they don’t manufacture the floors they sell or control the chemicals that are placed into the products from the start of the production process to the end.
Kährs can provide a full declaration of performance that shows the main independent chemical testing results for all our flooring products, but we can also offer further reassurance that our engineered wooden flooring products are safe for your home.
The first Kährs product received the Nordic SWAN Ecolabel in 2013. Today almost 200 Kährs wood floors are labelled as Nordic SWAN.

What are they? What do they mean?
The M1 emission class is a Finnish certification for building materials, including flooring, signifying low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the indoor air. Products with the M1 label are considered to have very low emissions and contribute to a healthier indoor environment.
FloorScore is an indoor air quality (IAQ) certification for flooring. It signifies that a product has been independently tested and meets strict standards for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, ensuring it contributes to healthier indoor air.
The “A+” eco label for flooring measures indoor air quality. An A+ rating, the highest possible, signifies that the flooring emits minimal to no pollutants, contributing to healthier indoor air.
At Kährs we have the ambition to stay ahead of upcoming legislation, as we are committed to being on the forefront in areas related to sustainability.
We work continuously to reduce the environmental impact of our products and to support our customers in creating healthy indoor spaces, often allowing us to secure compliance before legislation comes into effect. To that effect, Kährs wood floors are today already compliant with the upcoming new, lower and stricter level of Formaldehyde Emission Limits set by the EU to come into effect on August 6th, 2026.

Natural materials, tactile surfaces, and honest craftsmanship define spaces designed for longevity rather

Our best advice when it comes to choosing a wood floor? Go with your heart. However, there are some key aspects to consider, to help we have compiled a step by step guide for you, starting with understanding each surface finish option we can offer.
Similar to selecting the correct paint choice for your home, we offer various surface finishes with differing sheen levels. It is amazing how a single floor can vary when different finishes are applied, so it is important to consider all the different finishes and sheen levels open to you, detailed below.
Love the current popular dead flat paint appearance? Then select one of our Ultra Matt finishes which has around 3% sheen level, making the floor feel and look as if it was made from untreated, newly sawn timber, with the benefit of being scuff free and low maintenance.
Dead flat too flat for you? Then select one of our Matt finishes which has a 10% sheen level, providing that traditional Matt appearance that highlights the texture of the wood graining. Think of our Matt finish as being similar to your modern Matt emulsion wall paint in sheen. Low maintenance scuff free & soft to the touch.
Like a soft sheen? Then our original satin finish designs have a beautiful gentle soft shine, with a 30% sheen level. It is classic for a reason, bringing subtle attention to your home interior. Our classic satin finish is a truly versatile hard wearing mid-sheen finish. Ideal to compliment your wooden architraves painted in an eggshell finish. Hard wearing and low maintenance.
Want your floor to look as natural as possible? Our Nature Oil finishes have the same sheen level as our Matt lacquer, with the additional benefit that in years to come you can easily apply additional protective coats of oil and change sheen levels. Nature oil brings out the fine grain structure of the wood and enhances its natural colour and unlike hard wax finishes that break down over a few years your nature oil floor will last for generations. Love your oil floor straight away by applying additional coats immediately after installation which we recommend and choose between either Matt or Satin oil for your sheen preference.
Maintain the transparent soft feel of your Oak floor by selecting one of our Naked oiled or Naked lacquer finishes, which provides that unfinished look. Our Naked finishes keep our hardwood floors as close to their natural state as possible, whilst ensuring the protective oil or lacquer provides added protection and durability.
The impression of the floor is made up of what you see, as well as what you feel. Many of our floor designs include surfaces that have been handscraped and/or deeply or lightly brushed to create a unique patina that speaks to several of your senses. Our Planks have either deep or soft micro bevelled edges but we also craft floors without brushing or bevels if that is your preference.
We are well known for our artisanal hand scraped designs where each plank is hand made to give a beautiful worn patina. We also craft products to replicate a 100-year-old reclaimed floor with unique details such as butterfly pegs and square dowels found in very old restored floors. Below you will see some different surface design features we can offer.
Brushing the surface highlights the natural structure of the grain, and emphasizes the texture of the wood. Brushing effects vary, depending on the wood species.
Staining further enhances the wood’s natural colour tones. It also allows us to apply new colours, thus completely transforming the appearance of the wood. Kährs offers a wide range of stained options – from the palest white to rich charcoal shades.
This special process alters the colour and shade of each plank. There are two grades of smoked finish: a lightly smoked treatment and the darker, more dramatic, fully smoked treatment.
A bevelled edge feature on a 1-strip floor gives a very distinct look, highlighting the shape of the plank. From microbevelling – a discreet reinforcement of the edges – to a more prominent bevelling on both the long and the short sides.
By using different tools for hand wood scraping and sanding, we can give a new wood floor a worn appearance. A great amount of handcraft goes into each floor to achieve its rustic character.
Clean, calm and elegant – or rustic? Rich in patina, knots and cracks?
We have it all covered, as Kährs offers a selection of different gradings, each with a unique character. Grading depends on which part of the log we select when producing our floors, which we detail below for you.
Our prime grade floors are produced from the cleanest Oak logs featuring a uniform appearance with small variations in grain. They may contain very small knots. Prime grade wood floors are special because they represent the highest quality and are limited in the availability of the Oak logs that meet these stringent standards to be classified as Prime.
The floors with this grading are characterized by subtle variations in colour, tone and pattern. They may contain small knots. Select grade results in a smooth, polished look that adds a touch of luxury and refinement, making it a popular choice for both modern and traditional interiors.
One of the most popular grades within wood flooring shows the natural variation of timber, you won’t find as many larger knots as you would in our rustic grade, but it offers the traditional design of a wooden floor. This grade showcases knots and colour variations, creating a story of time and use.
These floors are made from boards with knots and cracks that give them simultaneously a lively and dramatic, yet warm character. They feature a variety of colour tones. Occasional sapwood.
If you want your floor to make a strong impression, choose an Expressive floor. These are made from boards with dramatic cracks and powerful knots and with a wide variety of colour tones. Occasional sapwood. Rustic grades embrace the natural imperfections of the wood, like knots, colour variations, and mineral streaks, creating a rustic and authentic look that adds charm and individuality to a space. Character grade embraces natural imperfections, creating a unique and eye-catching look that adds depth and character to any room. It’s also known for its durability and resistance to wear.
The sense of space in a room is affected by the width, length and pattern design of the floor. We offer several widths of floors including super wide boards and we only work with long length planks to give you a superior design. We offer several pattern flooring designs from classic & modern herringbone and the timeless Dutch pattern also known as basket weave design. ↑
Sometimes referenced as 1 strip, plank or full boards, this is where Kährs lead the market regarding the number of plank options we can offer. With over 150 different plank designs we can offer you the largest choice in the UK in stock at any given time.
Our standard plank width is typically 187mm, meaning they are suitable for almost every home and room size. Not wide enough? You can also choose from our 220mm wide planks or our widest plank size which is a majestic 305mm wide. Something narrower? Then look at our Planks with sizes of 151mm.
Unlike a lot of our competitors, we only work with full length planks running up to 2400mm long and never with short nested random lengths. Random lengths, with their varied board lengths, can disrupt the flow and visual continuity of a room. In contrast, fixed-length boards offers a more uniform and ordered look, reinforcing the size of the space. Our best advice is to never compromise on this area.
Sometimes known as parquet, the attractive and time-less design of the Herringbone pattern is created by rectangular boards which are laid in an attractive zig-zag pattern, stacked on-top of each other to create a “point” giving a characteristic expression to a room.
We see a move back towards a classic herringbone installation, where there is a 2-x block border at the walls or where one of our matching frame boards are used to create a border affect.
We work with 2 x different herringbone sizes, which is a classic 70 x 490mm or a more modern 120 x 600mm size. For all our modern herringbone designs we can offer a matching plank design, so you can have the same colour in a herringbone & plank in different rooms.
DUTCH PATTERN
Based on a classic Dutch design, our Palazzo wood flooring boards are arranged in a multi-strip formation, following a box repeat pattern. They have a unique repeating pattern with three short blocks running lengthwise separated by a perpendicular block. The result is a vivid display of symmetry that brings any room to life.

This technology enables you to get a real impression of what the floor will look like in your home.
A floor can truly change the interior of any home, and it’s one of the most important interior elements. Choosing a new floor is a big decision and there are many things to take into account. Light, dark or natural? The colour of the floor has a strong impact on how the room is perceived. A dark floor “swallows” a lot of light, but it also creates a sense of warmth and cosiness. A light wood floor reflects the light and adds space to the room.
Wood floors in shades of misty, cloudy white create an immediate sense of tranquillity in any interior. Our range includes floors featuring different designs, with different surface treatments; from oiled to lacquered.
Relaxed, yet refined, light wood floors create a perfect canvas for your furniture. They also add instant light to any interior. Our light floors come in a wide variety of shades, from floors with crisp, cool starkness, to warmer shades.
A true classic, a natural oak wood floor will add a sense of warmth and natural beauty to your home. Depending on the design, they can be lively or calm, rustic or elegant.
One of the latest trends in wood flooring is grey – from shades of driftwood to charcoal. Grey coloured floors are made to look like they have aged over the years, creating a unique and warm patina.
Nothing can create instant warmth quite like a brown wood floor. The rich, earthy tones of amber and tobacco create a perfect backdrop for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Dark wood floors create a solid ground. They bring a sense of sophistication and richness to the interior.
Choose from one of our modern large herringbone designs or a smaller traditional parquet size design. We have all the main colour tones covered including beautiful smoked Oak’s. As we do with our plank products, we offer our herringbone designs in different grading options including Prime grading with no knots or lively and warm rustic gradings including some with a brushed surface feature. However, they are one of the few floors that is free from any visible knots, mineral streaks, and colour variation, giving it a clean, uniformed look. There will also be a minimal amount of sapwood and filler, if any at all, offering you something rather special due to how difficult it is to procure this grade of floor.
Kahrs have a long history of innovation, and we continue to build on this with Life Authentic, the next generation of engineered wood flooring.
Due to the innovation on the Oak top surface, Life Authentic is our most sustainable engineered wood collection to date due to working with less slow grown resources. We have designed the products to be more robust on dealing with minor 24-hour water spillages compared to traditional engineered wood flooring, whilst an Oak balancer on the bottom of the product gives it the highest dimension stability.
Pushing innovation further, Life Authentic Planks achieves the highest fire-rated certificate of Bfl-s1, which means in the event of a fire the floor remains almost flameless.
Like all our flooring designs, Life Authentic achieves the highest indoor air quality due to being tested to achieve M1, A+ & Floorscore, offering re-assurance they feature no VOC’s.
Life Authentic features several beautiful colours from light to Smokey brown tones in prime or rustic gradings to support either a contemporary or traditional design. The surface is brushed to give an authentic grain structure and finished in either a durable Matt lacquer or natural Oil finish, with options between Herringbones & large Plank designs.
Whilst being the next generation of wood flooring, Life Authentic becomes the most affordable premium wood designs from Kahrs, allowing for additional rooms in the home to be installed with beautiful natural wood floors.

Minimal Seams: A wider plank means fewer joint seams, which contributes to a more streamlined luxurious design, especially in modern and open-concept spaces.
As the inventors of engineered wood flooring, we are clever in how we can produce some of our floors to provide a narrow plank design at a mid-price point.
We place 2 strips of narrow planks onto a single board where the strips are selected in the same way when producing our full plank designs. We arrange every 2-strip floor to give them their own unique character. Kährs’ 2-strip flooring is available in two options: long lengths, and short lengths.

If you have a wall with many windows, you should lay the floor with the length of the boards towards the windows. Want to create depth in a room? SUBFLOOR: UNDERLAYS
Whatever subfloor type you have, we have an underlay to suit and guarantee a successful installation, especially over any under floor heating. You will be able to choose the most suitable underlay from our easy refence guide.
Whatever Kährs floor you choose you can be re-assured we have a matching colour trim. Our Trims are made from solid wood so complement the floor design. We even offer several types of stairnose trims, so you can install our floors in your staircase.
BASIC INSTALLATION TOOLS:
Unlike other suppliers Kährs only work with locking joints to ensure a gap free floor, and we provide several basic tools to allow to allow flooring professionals to install our floors in correct fixing method.
Wood floors require little cleaning or maintenance, but when they do, we have several options for you to clean or maintain your floor including spray cleaners, tinted oils and floor refresher.
REPAIRS:
Should you need to repair your floor, don’t panic we have everything you need to do this easily with our clever repair kits.
TECHNICAL ADVICE:
All installation guidelines can be downloaded easily from our website covering areas such as installing over under floor heating and subfloor considerations.

We believe all successful wood flooring installations begin with choosing the correct underlay. Kährs offer several options all designed to be compatible for any subfloor, moisture, under floor heating, acoustic, thermal resistance and sustainability requirements.
Below is a simple guide to allow you to choose the most suitable underlay for each specific installation.
As the name suggests It not only has excellent sustainability properties as it contains a minimum of 90% natural mineral materials, but it also reduces walking sound by 30% and reduces heating costs due to low TR of 0.01M2/KW. Use for high compressive strength, UFH, sound reduction, low thermal resistance, and Eco requirements.
ECO FLEX SILENT is FREE of plasticizers, formaldehyde and heavy metals, solvent free and does not contain any other ozonedepleting substances.
This is by far our most popular underlay that features an integrated moisture barrier and 200mm overlap with glue tape. Based on AirFlow technology, Tuplex can level up to 1,85 mm in cases of uneven subfloors and is suitable for underfloor heating due to the buildup of a top layer with high vapor resistance, a permeable bottom layer and solid flexible polystyrene granules sandwiched in between.
The Airflow Technology – Ventilates and seals out moisture, prevents mold formation under the floor and Tuplex high compression strength secures that the ventilation works under load. Tuplex also comes in 2 x easy to handle size rolls: 16.5m2 or 33m2.
Is a sustainable circular product allowing for a more sustainable choice regarding underlayment.The strong sustainable properties of Kährs Eco Fiber include:
• 100% recycled content consisting of textile and paper;
• 100% recyclable;
• Reduces waste of energy through a high thermal conductivity of 0,016 m2 K/W, by efficiently transporting warmth from underfloor heating;

Kährs offers a free-of-charge sampling service, and we can ship them directly to you, we can send you a maximum of 3 samples. Once you have checked-out you can expect to receive your samples within 3-4 working days.
