At the tip of North Africa lies one of the ancient world’s most powerful cities: Carthage. In its strategic position on the Mediterranean, it has hosted empire after empire. It is flanked by the capital city of Tunis with its labyrinthine old medina, lavishly decorated kasbahs and mosques. After settling in, join your fellow guests for dinner accompanied by a local jazz band. The next morning, explore ancient Carthage’s remarkable archaeological sites, including the Punic Port, the Baths of Antoninus and the Cisterns of La Malga. Delve into the old medina of Tunis and be gloriously immersed in the ancient backstreets and alleyways harbouring market stalls of curios and crafts, cafés and hammams, historic palaces and mosques. Between Victoria Falls and the Chobe River, this leg of your journey serves up safari adventure with an aquatic twist.

A brief coda to your Cape Town visit finds you ascending Table Mountain by cable car for one last view of this beautiful city and its extraordinary setting. As natural spectacles go, it’s just a warm-up to Victoria Falls, a mile-wide cliff perpetually wreathed in spray from its thundering cascades. See the falls up close from the Zimbabwean side before a scenic drive to Botswana’s Chobe National Park and your accommodation at Chobe Game Lodge.
