SUMMER 2022

Inspiring Youth to be Aspiring Leaders Seven years into my first teaching job as a Student Activities Director, and Student Leadership/Student Council advisor, I realized I had some learning to do. My supervising administrator at the time, introduced me to California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) and California Association of Student Leaders (CASL), two organizations that promote and support leadership development through student activities. I jumped in with both feet, nearly drowned at times, but discovered CADA/CASL resources and mentors to keep me on task, and eager to promote positive school culture and teach for nearly 30 years. Today, as Executive Director of ALL RISE, I am thankful to CADA/CASL for providing me and others the skills and opportunities to develop an awesome network of friends and professionals that are focused on education and the well-being of children and youth. I was and continue to be inspired! This organization even spilled over into our home life. In middle school and high school, Aaron attended CADA/CASL summer camps and leadership conferences. The skills he developed were beneficial to his education and athletic experiences. Currently, as a New York Yankee, his athletic abilities, combined with his leadership skills, gives him the opportunity to help teammates and others achieve amazing goals. As a result of our experiences, the Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation has chosen to focus on inspiring and

motivating youth to become aspiring leaders through exciting leadership development activities. ‘Aspiring’, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary is “a person desiring and working to achieve a particular goal”. Students involved with our Aspiring Leaders program are given opportunities to learn how to work with others, understand their strengths and weaknesses, how to make good decisions, manage their time, communicate with others, and motivate themselves. Our Aspiring Leaders are learning to develop and improve leadership skills to become responsible citizens and reach unlimited possibilities. Now that our environment has opened up, allowing in-person activities, our Aspiring Leaders program has emerged stronger than ever. Check out the detailed information on page three, for the recent events that took place in San Joaquin County, California. We can all use a little inspiration to kindle our aspirations. I encourage you to seek opportunities to help inspire our youth, and keep yourself inspired as well. Together, we can motivate those around us to be hungry to achieve goals and become Aspiring Leaders.

Caroline Lagorio receives Scholarship Award Congratulations to Linden High School senior Caroline Lagorio for receiving the 2022 Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation Scholarship. Caroline is the second recipient to receive this award. She is attending UC Santa Barbara in the fall. The Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation $1,000 Scholarship was established in June of 2020 to be awarded to graduating seniors from Aaron’s alma mater – Linden High School in Linden, California.

Criteria for the AJARF Scholarship: Outstanding citizenship; leadership abilities and experience; college bound to a two or four-year institution or accredited trade/vocational school; and a 300 word essay titled “Responsible Citizenship and Me.”

A Memorable Moment

If you didn’t have a chance to see all the news surrounding the home run hit by Aaron on May 5th, and the ball caught by Mike Lanzillotta, a Blue Jays fan, who in turn, gave it to a young fan donning a #99 jersey, well, you will want to look it up. Bring the tissues. The gifted homerun ball wasn’t the only highlight for Derek Rodriguez, age 9. Derek and his new friend Mike were invited back to the Rogers Center and into the dugout to meet Aaron the following day. Additionally, the Yankees invited both to join them in the Judge’s Chambers at Yankee Stadium later this year.

Webinar Series Update

Our Webinar Series continues to bring leaders from throughout the US, sharing lessons that are having an impact on those that attend. So far in 2022, we have heard from Aaron and Blake Snell, who shared the leadership is about hyping up your teammates to boost their confidence. For sms self-motivation, it is important to emulate those that have a passion for what they do, i l l a b no matter their field. In March, we had some youth voices, Olivia Van Ledtje and e as Kristy Drutman, speak about believing in your ideas, and sharing them with the B world. We also learned that most negativity that they see comes from people … A pitch they know in real life. In early May, we were fortunate to have two that is thrown successful business leaders, Lisa Friedman Clark and Michael Cook, high and inside share their lessons in business. "We honor our colleagues when we learn their stories," Cooke shared. Both emphasized that personal on a batter in relationships matter. Learning Leadership I have been fortunate to find great leaders and role models all throughout my life. Thanks in great part to my parents, I was exposed to leaders in different walks of life. I had my coaches at different levels who tried to instill in me sportsmanship and teamwork. I had great teachers who helped me in the classroom. When I was about 12, I attended a leadership camp hosted by the California Association of Director of Activities (CADA) / California Association of Student Leaders (CASL). There were a lot of team-building activities that gave me the chance to interact with students from other schools. We talked about activities that got everyone involved, and which ones were the most successful. We also had various keynote speakers that were inspiring and educational. As I recall, one speaker called up students to assist with an activity. Getting called up was scary, because you could see all the other students looking up at you. The presenter really worked at building us up and making us feel comfortable. Even with all those eyes on the us, the speaker’s ability to put everyone at ease gave all of us the courage to take our new leadership skills and activities back to our own school. It also showed us how to be courageous when trying anything new. When I was a young player with the Yankees, I had the chance to attend some of their leadership camps that featured Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. One of the big lessons from those was approaching each game with the mindset that we are the best team on the planet, no one was close. If we lost a game, that was OK, because we still could come back tomorrow and get the job done. Their confidence set a tone for all of us. That is confidence that many youth don’t have the opportunity to be exposed to. I knew early on, that if I was ever successful with baseball, I wanted to start a foundation that could give opportunities like these to youth. Whether it is sending them to leadership workshops, exposing them to leaders from all walks of life through our webinar series, supporting organizations that help youth, or producing our pro-camps, we want to give experiences to young people to teach skills that will lead them to following their dreams, as I have been lucky enough to do. With a little help, we can ALL RISE.

When Aaron made the decision to start a foundation, his mission was very clear: the foundation will inspire children and youth to become responsible citizens by engaging them in activities that encourage them to reach unlimited possibilities. The Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation (AJARF) supports programs and activities that develop

Student Leader and strengthen the character of our youth. May was an eventful month for ALL RISE’s Aspiring Leaders program. We rounded the bases and headed home to host two distinct and powerful leadership events for students from Aaron’s hometown and surrounding community.

ALL RISE Aspiring Leaders attend Modesto Central Valley Spring Student Leadership Conference

Aspiring Leaders Attend CADA/CASL Conference The ALL RISE Foundation sent a delegation of 43 students from San Joaquin County, in fifth through eleventh grade, to attend the CADA/CASL Modesto Central Valley Spring Student Leadership Conference. Held on May 3rd, the conference had a total of 887 students and 86 advisors representing 43 high schools and 12 elementary schools throughout Northern California. The conference trained and prepared newly elected student leaders for the upcoming school year, as well as helped them learn to navigate the responsibilities as a student leader. On hand were CASL leaders to share ideas that can be used on their campus to create and enhance positive school culture. The workshops were broken into three levels. Knowledge of Leadership, level one, was designed to work with students who enter the program for the first time. They explored concepts such as responsibility, organization, and self-evaluation, as well as attitude, time management, organization, goalsetting and action. Level two, 2nd and 3rd year students, focused on Work Ethic, where they gained knowledge of leadership skills, worked towards developing confidence, and gained experience in event planning. They also explored working with others, communicating with peers and advisors, conflict resolution and service to the student

ALL RISE Aspiring Lead

“I learned how I can become a better leader in the future.” ~Angelica Velazuez, Aspiring Leader body and community. Mindfulness in the Leadership Role, the third level, for 3rd and 4th year students, gave participants the ability to see how to use their leadership skills. They worked to develop their leadership responsibilities by taking charge, and focused on being proactive, dependable and organized, training others, and promoting standards and tradition. The advisors were engaged with their students and attended the workshops as well. The conference was an all-day event with students enjoying a continental breakfast and lunch, as well as being entertained with music and dancing.

Leadership Development Days Building upon the Leadership Development Day (LDD) model developed by CADA/CASL, ALL RISE and CADA/CASL collaborated to create a customized program that emphasized a challenge from Aaron for all attendees to become aspiring leaders. Bringing together students to learn and lead, each event was an experience that the students will not only use throughout their school years, but throughout life. Two hundred and forty-four student leaders and fifteen advisors attended the two Leadership Development Days. The Stockton Unified LDD was held on May 12th at Health Careers Academy in Stockton, California, with students representing Fillmore, Payton, Rio Calaveras, A.G. Spanos, and Health Careers Academy. Aaron’s Alma Mater, Linden High School in Linden, California was the site for the May 13th LDD. Students from Glenwood, Waterloo and Waverly elementary and Linden High School attended. Aspiring Leaders from each high school were trained to serve as facilitators for the day of experiential learning. The inspiring day included hands on activities to unite students and develop skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom such as connecting with peers, enhancing communication, skills to develop trust and friendships, become culturally competent, challenge insecurities and form novel and adaptive thinking. Ending the day, there was reflection and individual evaluation on what each student could do differently once back on their campus. They learned to walk hand in hand, lead with purpose, focus on citizenship and use everything they have to reach unlimited possibilities, which aligns perfectly with the mission of the Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation.

RISING UP

Congratulations May 2022 Mini-Grant Recipients! San Joaquin County Mini-Grant Recipient: San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum, Valley Days Valley Days is an educational, immersive living history experience which gives local 3rd through 5th grade students the chance to be pioneer children for a day. Students dress in period clothing, attend classes in the 1860’s Calaveras Schoolhouse, and learn traditional crafts such as ropemaking, blacksmithing, and branding while parent volunteers work alongside. Students also discover the rich history of San Joaquin County and learn how they have a role in shaping their community through action and invention. The mini-grant funding will offset the cost of operating and updating the program ensuring all students receive the safest and highest quality experience. This includes in part, the maintenance of educational facilities, adding curricular supports to living history areas such as our “Dry Diggins Gold Mine”, and retooling our award-winning Valley Days curriculum for more culturally and ethnically diverse audiences.

Bronx County Mini-Grant Recipient: Urban Dove, HiRisers HiRisers is a peer mentoring and youth employment program preparing students for a lifetime of professional success. Formed when Urban Dove was an after-school organization, it is now a weekly class offered to all students. In addition, HiRisers has introduced in-house internships for students, located within many different school departments. The Mini-Grant will help provide 12 hours of initial HiRisers training for each student, their first opportunity to learn what is required for a professional position. Trained students receive work experience leading activities at a local elementary school. They work two days per week and are paid for their time. In addition, the new in-house internships will provide students with a diversity of options to gain new experiences and insight into future career interests. Fresno County Mini-Grant Recipient: Hinds Hospice, Circle of Friends Children and Teen Support Group Since its inception in 1981, Hinds Hospice has understood the value of providing ongoing support to families after the death of a loved one. The "Circle of Friends Children and Teen Support Group" is a specialized program that helps children deal with grief of losing a close loved one, in most cases either a parent, both parents or a sibling. This group is designed to provide a safe space to process their grief and our support groups are facilitated by experienced bereavement support specialists. These group sessions are critical for the well-being, mental and physical development of children & teens who have suffered the unimaginable loss of a parent or sibling. The Mini-Grant will provide financial support for the "Circle of Friends Children and Teen Support" group sessions for children of families who can't afford to pay. This Mini Grant was made possible with the support of the Gregg Raymundo Family, Provident Payments.
