Fall-ing Into Place Things are fall-ing into place for the Aaron Judge

ALL RISE Foundation. August and September mark a new beginning for our children and youth as they head back to the “classroom” to continue their formal education. Classrooms around the world will be quite different as we practice social distancing and mask wearing to limit the spread of COVID-19. Educators, parents, administrators, and communities are working hard to support a safe and healthy environment for learning. Thanks to our donors and affiliates, ALL RISE has been able to provide additional support. In May, we collaborated with JBL and Linden Elementary School, Linden, California, to provide headphones to nearly 100 4th grade students transitioning into middle school. “Transitioning from elementary school to middle school was a little scary for me,” shares founder Aaron Judge. “It meant meeting new teachers, experiencing new schedules and classes, going to a larger and unfamiliar school, and making new friends.” Judge continued “Now that students have been studying from home for seven weeks due to COVID-19 circumstances, I felt it was especially critical to encourage and support these 4th graders to continue their education through the summer. A great set of JBL headphones will allow them to concentrate and focus on their distance learning and summer reading.” Parents and students were thrilled to have Aaron’s support and encouragement.

Dr. Seuss and his books have sparked the interest of children beginning in 1937. The Judge family bookshelves contained many of Dr. Seuss’ books with worn corners. Bedtime always included picking out a few books to read. We shared giggles and ~ Dr. Seuss snuggles with our boys. Reading was fun and became a pathway to increased education. Since our last Team Report, we have been very busy focusing on education. We joined with Olivia (@TheLivBits), a youth voice advocate to support reading and literacy. The focus of this project comes from Aaron’s love of reading he developed while growing up, where academics played just as important a role in his development as sports. ALL RISE Foundation eagerly supported the Fourth Annual Stockton (California) College Signing Day on July 1, 2020. As one of the most diverse cities in our country, Stockton Scholars has created a city-wide guaranteed scholarship program for high school graduates committing to a 4-year, 2-year, or trade school. These scholarships support students with their education beyond high school. Aaron was one of the congratulatory speakers for this virtual event. We wish the education community, parents, and students the very best and much success for the 2020-2021 academic year. There will be challenges to conquer. But don’t forget “Oh the places you will go!”

Stronger Together Being a teammate has always meant you don’t want to let anyone down. I remember this time in little league when I was having trouble swinging at curveballs. I would see them come into my hitting zone, but I just couldn't pull the trigger! So, I worked with my dad and coaches for hours, hitting curveballs and getting comfortable with it. Finally, in our next game I came up with the bases loaded and our team down 2 runs. The game was on the line and I really wanted to come through. The first pitch was a fastball that I fouled right back behind me, 0-1. Next pitch was a curveball. I was frozen and couldn't get the bat off my shoulder, 0-2. I stepped out of the box and remembered what I had worked on and told myself ‘I got this, I’m ready!’ Next pitch was a curveball and I hit it over the fence to give our team the lead. Besides learning to hit a curveball, I also learned that hard work not only pays off, it helps everyone on the team. But I didn’t do this alone. I had coaches and teammates and, of course, my dad who spent hours helping me. With the Yankees, my teammates are constantly demonstrating those same lessons. We work hard together so that if one of us can’t get the job done, there is another just behind us who can. When something is important to one of us, we are making it important to all of us. We are all better when we work together. The Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation is another team I am proud to be a part of. We are creating programs to help kids learn that with a little hard work the possibilities are endless. We have a deep bench, including our Family of Affiliates on whom we can call. A Baltimore Chop is a ball that is hit sharply downward to produce a high bouncing ground ball. An ideal chop will bounce so high that the batter can leg it out for an infield single by the time the ball has come down for a fielder to field it.

The Baltimore chop was named because it was a favorite weapon of the 1890s Baltimore Orioles. The chop is most effective if the batter is able to chop the ball off of hard ground. The Orioles supposedly had their groundskeeper treat the area in front of home to make it especially hard- just one example of their creative groundskeeping. 3

ALL RISE Mini-Grant supports Club on the Go! Our second mini-grant recipient is Boys and Girls Club at Sierra Vista, Stockton, California, to support “Club on the Go” kits - filled with academic resources, healthy snacks, new books, and fun activities to Sierra Vista kids. All of the children in this community come from low-income families. This is another opportunity for ALL RISE Foundation to reach out to children and youth experiencing difficult circumstances that affect their education.
