Source: RHS secretary resigns amid scandal For a statement from RISD Superintendent Tom Burris on this event, turn to Page A3.
By Jared Tucker Multimedia Journalist More details have emerged regarding the Roswell High School senior prank that went too far. And now there is discussion about what the Roswell Independent School District is doing to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future pranks from escalating, or even occurring at all. The students involved have cleaned up the mess, and have more community service to complete in coming days. A secretary has resigned, according to a credible source. RISD Superintendent Tom
Burris said from what little he’s heard about the original intended prank, it involved moving of desks and stacking of furniture and throwing toilet paper, but a second group of students showed up and took things to a potentially criminal level. “That’s consistent with what I’ve heard about this issue,” Burris said. Burris said RHS Principal Ruben Bolanos has imposed five days of community service for the students involved. Three days have already been served, and the pranksters have two more to serve. But that doesn’t mean everyone is off the hook, Burris said. “There’s still going to be discussion with RPD with respect to a limited number of the participants,” Burris said. Burris said he’s frustrated with Bolanos because the
principal has not supplied him with the list of names of students who were involved. Now, Burris said he’s taking over. “Previously I asked the principal of RHS to provide information and a plan to address the RHS incident both of which have not been forthcoming,” Burris said. Burris said within the next several days he will personally develop a plan of action which will hold those responsible accountable. RISD School Board President Dr. Peggy Brewer said she’s disappointed about what she calls the lack of respect and loyalty to the school by its students. She said she feels pranks should be banned altogether. “The board will be looking at its vandalism policy real soon,” Brewer said, adding she trusts Burris and Belanos to handle the situation and discipline those involved

Students said there was maple syrup on the wall and cow manure among the litter. accordingly. Burris recognizes the precedent it would set if no criminal charges are filed for the extreme acts that were committed that involved graffi-
ti, throwing of manure and maple syrup. “I wish to reassure the public, students and RISD employees that the actions of all parties who participated
in any way with this incident at RHS will be reviewed and this incident is not and will See SCANDAL, Page A3

GOP leader: Hillary must be defeated By Jeff Tucker Record Staff Writer
Republican National Committeewoman Rosie Tripp told local Republicans this week state and national party leaders are working hard to elect a Republican president, to retain control of the New Mexico House of Representatives and to work toward a Republican majority in the New Mexico
Senate. “This election cycle will be vital and it will be critical now and for many, many years to come,” said Tripp, the guest speaker at Wednesday’s monthly luncheon of the Chaves County Republican Women. “This presidential election is going to be the most important election we have. If Hillary (Clinton) and Bill get back
into the White House, we are in trouble. If she is elected, we won’t have the presidency at least for another 16 to 20 years. It will be Democrat from now on, and that is a scary, scary thought.” Tripp said national Republicans have changed the rules in the presidential primary process, moving the nationSee GOP, Page A3
