Zombie mother Jacquelin Valadez hungers for her 4-year-old zombie daughter Alyssa’s cookie during Outrun Fear’s Haunted Trail event at Cielo Grande, Saturday night.

Chain saws and compassion? The Halloween spirit located its benevolent side Saturday night at Cielo Grande, where participants of a Haunted Trail marched to raise money for the Chaves County Cancer Fund. The event was put together by Outrun Fear, a new committee of ENMU-Roswell students inspired to help combat the devastating effects of cancer. Mellissa Luna, a nursing student and vice president of Outrun Fear, said her organization is comprised of 10 students within ENMU-R’s Health and Science department, a committee that formed quickly in late August.

A Thriller of a day CHAUNTE’L POWELL RECORD STAFF WRITER

It was a fright-filled day for Roswell as the Roswell Thrill the World and Zombie Walk took place Saturday. People of all ages came in their scariest garb to participate in the worldwide dance to Michael Jackson’s hit “Thriller,” before participating in the costume contest. The gruesome creatures then invaded the streets of Roswell for the annual Zombie Walk. Nathalie Bedard and her son Connor were among those in the zombie crowd. She said she saw the

advertisement around town and after attending last year’s festivities, decided to come back out and will do so every year it’s in town. She appreciates the sense of unity events such as the Thrill the World bring to the city. For Scott Robb, the Zombie Walk was the main event. Robb attended the previous year as well and said it was an opportunity to spend quality time with his kids. He supports ef forts to host such

SANTA FE (AP) — A legislative committee review has found that New Mexico’s agency for licensing drivers and vehicles continues to struggle with outdated technology and staffing problems that are frustrating to the public, despite state ef forts to revamp major parts of the Motor Vehicle Division.

The head of the state agency that oversees MVD said she’s working on the issues, but one lawmaker told the Santa Fe New Mexican for a report in Saturday’s editions that the

problems have persisted long enough and that he’s ready to yank the division away from her department. “I don’t know when we’re going to be able to come up with a responsive system that will respond in a timely basis to the driving public,” Rep. Lucky Varela, DSanta Fe, said Friday. “I’m at the point of throwing up my hands and saying ‘Let’s give up on Motor Vehicles.”’ Varela’s committee noted several key issues, including a lack of a formal train-
