Raise That Next Margarita to Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy Buffett was and is a legend. Until his death this month on September 1, at the age of 76, Buffett was, and is, one of the most recognized names in the world. His songs are what our imaginations are made of. His concerts were as legendary as he was. His business prowess is unmatched by any other entertainer. Jimmy Buffet built one of the most dedicated fan bases in music history - once a Parrothead, always a Parrothead. We did a quick dive on the life of this remarkable man and his impact on our society. Nancy Clark - TGO's Squirrel Whisperer
Meet Nancy Clark, our neighborhood squirrel rescuer and rehabber. Nancy has a special skill very few of us have - she saves squirrels. In fact, squirrels are one of her passions along with helping all the wildlife within TGO. Whether it is a baby bird or baby squirrel, she is dedicated to helping it grow up. Rehabbing baby squirrels is no easy task as they must be fed every two hours depending on their age. She is also working hard to reestablish the Southern Flying Squirrel (Yes... Rocky!) in an effort to boost their numbers here in TGO. It's a bit of a tough job as these gliding squirrels are nocturnal. Learn more about Nancy and our squirrels on page 40.
Arrrrgh... Celebrating "Talk Like A Pirate Day"
Created by two friends in 1995 as a joke, "Talk Like a Pirate Day," on September 19, has become a beloved faux-holiday that lets everyone channel their inner Jack Sparrow. This year, The Blue Heron will be celebrating with a party that includes one of Brevard County's most talented pirates - Johnny Danger Live! The party is on Tuesday, September 19 at 6:00 pm. It should be a lot of fun - so hope to see you there - and dress up! To get you a little more excited about a Pirate Party, you'll find an informative article about the meanest, baddest pirates to rock the Florida coasts. You can start walking the plank on page 32.
