Veterans' Corner
The Happenings has a new contributor, her name is Deb Griffin, a retired Army Master Sergeant with 32 years of service to our country. She has also been a resident of TGO for the past 5 years. This new monthly feature will be devoted to the many members of our TGO Community who served our country in the armed forces. There are numerous veterans in our park and Deb's column will provide a welcomed opportunity to share some interesting news and amazing stories about our TGO service veterans. Read more on page 24.
The Pesky Tick
We all know The Tick can be a carrier of several diseases, including Lyme Disease, which includes a variety of severe symptoms. Well, now there is a new threat from our friend The Tick, known as the Alpha-gal syndrome. Ticks love to bite humans and when they do, they can easily pass on this disease, and you'll never know it - that is until you figure out you are now allergic to meat! Yes... Meat! Beef, pork and even lamb. If, after enjoying a bacon cheeseburger, you start to break out in a sweat, or hives or have trouble breathing, you just might have contracted Alpha-gal syndrome. Boom! You may now be an instant vegetarian! More on page 26....
Labor Day Weekend
One of the most celebrated three-day weekends of the year is Labor Day. It is also the unofficial end of summer. Here in TGO, we celebrate it with the very popular Labor Day Scramble Golf Tournament on Monday, September 4. Check the Pro Shop to see if there are any spaces open - for details, check out page 5. The Blue Heron Restaurant and Bar will also be open that day from 12 - 3:00 pm. They will have a special menu of 1/4 lb. hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages at a great price. Even if you didn't golf, the TGO community is welcome to stop by, have lunch and get out of the heat!
