The presence of Rokbak at the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) Summit 2026 in the US helped outline a strong strategy for the new year and brought the RA30 and RA40 trucks centre stage in the world’s biggest articulated dump truck (ADT) market.
At the recent gathering in Texas, the Scottish hauler manufacturer placed a strong focus on celebrating the partnerships that continue to drive success for the brand across North America. Part of that was recognising Houston-based heavy equipment specialist, Easton Sales & Rentals, as the company’s Dealer of the Year for 2025.
“The award highlights Easton’s outstanding sales performance on both truck and factoryapproved parts, strong alignment with the Rokbak brand and unwavering commitment to customer support,” said Robert Franklin, Rokbak Director of Sales – Americas.
“Our dealers are central to everything we do. Easton exemplifies what a strong, engaged Rokbak partner looks like, and it was a real pleasure to recognise their achievements during AED 2026.”
Confidence in Rokbak Products, People and Partnerships
Conversations across the threeday event, which took place at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, focused on market developments, dealer feedback, customer insights and collaborative strategies to support continued growth.
“AED always delivers a great mix of meaningful conversations and positive energy,” said Robert.
“It’s where we reconnect with our dealers, share ideas and build on what we’ve achieved together.
Dealer feedback was excellent.
Customers are pleased with the performance of the trucks and dealers are happy with the support they get from the Rokbak
team. AED 2026 has reaffirmed real confidence in our products, our people and our partnerships.”
In September 2021, the first pair of RA30 ADTs were dispatched from the Rokbak factory in Motherwell, Scotland, and sent to Easton, marking the beginning of the Rokbak journey into the public arena.
“We knew we were onto a good thing from the very beginning,” explained Jeff Udelson, Managing Principal of Easton Sales & Rentals.
“Rokbak haulers have proven themselves to be productive, competitive trucks in the USA. Being recognised as Rokbak Dealer of the Year is something we’re all extremely proud of. Achieving and exceeding our goals has been a real group effort.”
As one of Rokbak’s earliest partners in North America,
Easton has played an important role in the brand’s continued growth across the region. Its focus on customer relationships, aftersales support and longterm collaboration exemplifies the standards Rokbak values across its dealer network.
With demand remaining strong across the construction, quarrying and infrastructure sectors, Rokbak continues to invest in its dealer relationships and customer support capabilities. AED 2026 provided a platform not only to reflect on achievements, but also to align on priorities for the year ahead.
As Rokbak looks beyond AED 2026, the focus is clear: continue to work closely with a strong dealer network to deliver dependable machines, responsive service and shared success in North America.

Carved by a lifetime of hard work, Rokbak articulated haulers are built to perform. Day after day. Decade after decade. From the heat of the desert to the cold of the arctic, you can rely on Rokbak.

Northern Ireland is entering 2026 with its strongest construction performance in a decade-and-a-half, according to the latest findings from AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, operating across the island of Ireland for more than 165 years.
The organisation’s Ireland Annual Review 2026, now in its 51st year, notes that construction output rose 7.3 per cent in the year to June 2025, reaching its highest level since 2010 and outperforming the rest of the U.K. at 2.2 per cent.
The review observes that the return of political stability in 2024 helped restore confidence and unlock stalled plans, providing the platform for the construction sector’s strong rebound. The review reveals activity is being driven in part by exceptionally strong repair and maintenance performance, now 55.8 per cent above prepandemic levels, alongside a 25.9 per cent increase in housing output, which accounted for more than a third of total activity in Q2 2025. However, only one new social housing start was recorded over the year, far below what is required to meet long-term needs. With more than 49,000 households on waiting lists and wastewater constraints blocking new development in Belfast, Newry and Derry-Londonderry, the review stresses that Northern Ireland can’t deliver on its 15-year housing strategy without systemic infrastructure reform.
Strategic Priorities and Future Opportunities
The review argues that Northern Ireland needs clearer long-term funding, more collaborative delivery models, earlier

supply-chain involvement, stronger public-sector capacity alongside a reimagining of public-private partnerships, and faster planning and consenting processes. These priorities match the wider all-island focus on creating systems that can turn investment into results.
It adds that Northern Ireland stands to benefit from the finalised Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland 2050, which will build on the U.K.’s 10-year Infrastructure Strategy, but without greater readiness, it may struggle to turn this long-term investment into real outcomes.
A clear roadmap will help unlock investment, accelerate progress and strengthen communities across the country.
“Northern Ireland enters 2026 from a position of real strength, with output, sentiment and sector performance all moving in the right direction. We have the ambition and the momentum, but delivery now depends on readiness,” said Nick Perrin, Head of Infrastructure, Surface
Transportation, Aviation and Ports, U.K. & Ireland, at AECOM.
“2026 must be a year of delivery readiness. Strong investment and renewed political clarity provide the foundation, but readiness provides the capability. Northern Ireland’s potential for growth is significant, and it must seize this dynamic moment and make the most of the opportunities ahead.”
Across both jurisdictions, AECOM identifies ‘readiness’ as the critical enabler of faster, more consistent delivery. Defined as ‘strategic preparation’, readiness encompasses an organisation’s internal capability, such as having the right skills, systems and governance in place, as well as external factors like selecting appropriate procurement strategies and the provision of pipeline certainty to aid workforce attraction and retention.
The report also shows that costs have largely stabilised, with material prices flat and labour costs increasing 5.5 per cent due to
intense regional competition for skills. New work remains 7 per cent above pre-pandemic levels, and private non-housing is expected to be one of the fastest-growing sub-sectors into 2026, aligning with wider trends across the island of Ireland.
Wastewater infrastructure remains the single biggest constraint on housing delivery, while planning and regulatory delays continue to slow the progress of essential infrastructure. Public-sector and supply-chain resource shortages further limit delivery pace, and short-term budgeting cycles make it difficult to plan and commit to long-term capital programmes with confidence.
Despite fiscal pressures, the public sector continued to deliver new community assets throughout 2025. Major projects advanced during the year include the £70 million Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, set to become Northern Ireland’s first ultraenergy-efficient leisure facility; the £100 million Belfast Stories cultural and tourism destination; the £671 million Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Hospital; and Ulster University’s Sports Air Dome, an all-island shared space initiative.
Looking ahead, the Construction Industry Training Board forecasts Northern Ireland’s construction output to grow by 2.8 per cent in 2026, ahead of the U.K.’s 2.3 per cent. Growth is expected to be led by repair and maintenance, rising 5.1 per cent, while new work is projected to increase by 1.4 per cent, supported by stronger gains in private nonhousing (5.5 per cent) and infrastructure (4.2 per cent).

Hyundai is introducing the HX300L, the latest model in the Next Generation crawler excavator line-up. As with the larger HX360L and HX400L that were launched at Bauma in 2025, the HX300L is powered by a Hyundai diesel engine.
The 30-tonne class excavator also features Full Electrohydraulic (FEH) controls, for improved operator precision and increased fuel efficiency.
• Hyundai DX08 diesel engine delivers a 9% power boost
• Full Electrohydraulic (FEH) electric joysticks and pump control
• Reduced fuel consumption and increased efficiency
• Heavier counterweight contributes to industry-leading lifting capacity
• Increased cab comfort with 12.8” touchscreen monitors
The HX300L is the third Next Generation crawler model launched by Hyundai in the last year. Weighing 31,820kg, the machine is powered by Hyundai’s award-winning DX08 six-cylinder diesel engine. This Stage V compliant powerplant delivers 207kW (277hp) in the HX300L, an increase of 9% versus the previous 30-tonne A-Series machine, along with 1,230Nm of torque.
In combination with EPOS (Electric Power Optimising System) hydraulic control, the engine consumes up to 7% less fuel than in the previous machine and 30% less AdBlue. Customers will also see a reduction in service costs, as oil and filter change intervals have been doubled, to 1,000 hours, minimising downtime and boosting productive uptime on site.
As with the larger models, the HX300L has Hyundai’s Full Electrohydraulic (FEH) hydraulic system. This includes electric joysticks, that communicate by wire with the valve block. This eliminates hydraulic loss through pilot controls and offers the operator the opportunity to fine tune individual hydraulic functions to their exact requirements.
They can adjust the sensitivity and response of the levers to their own preference, settings that can be memorised within the system to that operator’s key.
The Next Generation excavators incorporate a host of smart technologies, to assist the operator and boost productivity. This includes optional 2D machine guidance and control, with bucket, slew and grade assist, with the ability to upgrade to a 3D system. The machines can have an automatic weighing function, allowing operators to accurately load trucks and deliver production data. Safety has been improved along with productivity, with Lift Assist and Advanced Lift Assist providing visual safety zones for lifting operations. The Next generation excavators also come with an E-Boundary function, allowing the operator to set

ceiling, floor and wall limits to prevent collisions and improve site safety.
These can be used in conjunction with the upgraded Smart Around View Monitor (SAVM) system, which now comes with six cameras mounted around the machine incorporating an AI-based human detection and recognition system. In addition, Radar Object detection alerts the operator to nearby hazards with visual and audible warnings. An automatic stop function can halt the machine’s movements if the operator ignores the audible warnings. For other site operatives, the Next Generation models have four-corner beacons on the cab roof, ensuring that the lights can be seen from any direction. There is also an external microphone that allows the operator to communicate with other site personnel.
The Next Generation cab takes operator comfort to a completely new level, with one or an optional two 12.8” full HD touchscreen monitor. A Digital Key option allows operators
to enter and start the machine from their smartphone, a feature that can be shared with up to six operatives and transport drivers.
Premium seating, multi-channel infotainment and luxury cab matting are all offered in a Comfort Pack and the cab has welcome lighting. The internal noise level is just 68dB(A), one of the quietest cabs in this size class.
The HX300L has an 11% longer track length, now 4,040mm and a 6% heavier counterweight. This combination results in a sector-leading lifting capacity over the front and the side of the machine. The standard monoboom is 6,245mm long, with a 3,100mm dipper arm. This provides a dipper tearout force of 141kN and a bucket tearout of 206kN. The HX300L brings the benefits of the Next Generation to a new market sector. With more power, increased stability, a host of automated operator assistance functions and improved machine control, the excavator delivers for the customer and for the operator in the cab. The machine will be offered in three build configurations: the standard HX300L, a narrow track HX300NL and a long-reach HX300LR, to meet the needs of customers across Europe.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has published provisional figures showing that 58 people died in workrelated incidents in Ireland during 2025, representing a 61 per cent increase on the 36 who died in 2024.
The agriculture sector, with 23 deaths, continues to account for the highest number of fatalities representing 40 per cent of all work-related fatalities last year from a sector employing approximately four per cent of the workforce.
The construction sector recorded 10 fatalities compared to five in 2024, while five fatalities were recorded in the manufacturing sector, compared to none last year.
Commenting on the figures, Mark Cullen, Chief Executive Officer of the Health and Safety Authority, said: “The increase in work-related fatalities in 2025 is deeply concerning. Every death is a tragedy, and each one represents a life lost and a family devastated. We recorded our lowest ever fatality rate in 2024 and, while annual figures can fluctuate, this sharp rise serves as a stark reminder that employers and workers alike must stay vigilant and avoid complacency when it comes to workplace safety.”
Mark Cullen emphasised the preventable nature of many of these incidents: “The fact that so many fatalities continue to involve machinery or vehicles, and falls from height, shows that well-known incident triggers are not being adequately controlled. These are hazards that can be managed through proper risk assessment, forward planning and ensuring that all employees are fully aware of the need to prioritise safe working behaviour.”
Of the 58 fatalities, 19 (33 per cent) were aged 65 or over. This trend is particularly concerning in the context of an aging national demographic and the fact that people are working beyond the traditional retirement age.
Commenting on this unique risk, Mark Cullen said: “As we get older, we can become less mobile and more prone to serious injury. There’s also the reality that older workers may continue poor habits they formed at a younger age when they were able to recover from a fall or being struck by a machine. Older workers must realise that they are not invincible, safety should always be their priority. No job is important enough to put your life at risk.”
Self-employed workers continue to face significant risks at work. In 2025, self-
employed people accounted for 23-of-the-58 work-related fatalities (40 per cent), a stark and disproportionate figure that underlines the dangers of working without the support structures typically found in larger organisations. In addition, many self-employed workers operate alone, increasing the danger when incidents occur, as there may be no one present to help or raise the alarm.
Speaking about these dangers, Mark Cullen warned: “Working safely is entirely possible even if you are self-employed or working alone. When you work alone, particularly in high-risk sectors, such as agriculture and construction, you must be even more vigilant in planning your work and ensuring help is available when you need it or if something goes wrong.”
In the coming year, the HSA will deliver a comprehensive programme of riskbased, evidence-led workplace health and safety inspections across all sectors of the economy. Those sectors that pose the highest health and safety risks will be targeted with a range of enforcement, compliance and awareness-raising interventions.

A leading plant hirer has bought one of the first JCB 3CX PRO DualDrive backhoe loaders in Northern Ireland.
Purchased by County Down-based P. Smyth Digger Hire, the brand new JCB 3CX PRO has been put straight to work pole planting for electricity cables on behalf of Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) outside the village of Moira.
Supplied by dealer Dennison JCB, the new 3CX PRO model features DualDrive – JCB’s latest backhoe innovation which allows the operator to drive and reposition the machine while facing the excavator. It is proving highly beneficial for pole planting

operations as well as highways work where the backhoe is now able to operate even more efficiently within in a single lane.
P. Smyth Digger Hire Owner Operator, Ricky Smyth, said: “We do a lot of work with NIE Networks and the JCB DualDrive feature is perfect for our work. We are able to move forwards and backwards from pole to pole without having to twist and turn. This means we’re not wasting time and we’re not blocking the roads as just the single lane closure is required, which minimises disruption to the public.
“We’re very impressed with it. It’s fast on the road which is fantastic too. We do lots
of miles – some days nearly a 100-mile round trip – so it makes a huge difference. In this line of work we can’t afford downtime so the service and support we get from our dealer Dennison JCB is excellent.”
The new 3CX PRO model boasts a number of further developments, including a single loader lever to reduce operator effort, revised direction control for quicker and easier use, a return-to-grade function for improved performance, upgraded quickhitch with wider fork carriage and de-bog feature offering simultaneous control of excavator and loader controls.

Hampshire and Dorset plant and tool hire business Rentool is searching for new head office premises, to cope with the rapid expansion of its equipment fleet. As a further three Kubota KX085-5 excavators join a line-up that includes more than 150 excavators, 130 site dumpers, telescopic handlers, compaction equipment and a wide range of power tools, Rentool’s business continues to thrive, as it works to meet growing customer demand.
“We’ve increased the fleet a lot over the last five years,” said Director Ben Collings. “We are now on the hunt for larger premises, so that we can expand further.”
Rentool was formed in 1982, by Ben’s father Bill Collings and fellow Director Toby Jackson’s father Mike. Both Ben and Toby have managed depots within the business, before taking on the overall running of the company in 2019.
The firm first moved to its head office site in Chandlers Ford in 2008 and has a second depot in Poole, Dorset. Though initially more of a tool hire business, the power tool side has become secondary to the main plant business over time, as the fleet has expanded. The company’s excavator fleet includes models from a sub-1 tonne micro, through to 13-tonne crawlers. Up to 98% of the mini and midi excavators have been supplied by local Kubota dealer Lister Wilder, demonstrating

the firm’s confidence in the brand and its belief in the dealer’s support. Site dumpers range from 1-9 tonnes and that line-up also includes Kubota’s 3-tonne tracked machines, alongside traditional wheeled models.
Rentool offers compaction equipment, fuel cubes and bowsers too, to ensure that it meets all of its customer needs on site.
Though growing rapidly to support those businesses, the company is also happy to work with other hire firms, to meet the needs of customers that may be working out of area.
Rentool leans towards a high specification for all of its equipment, providing the best machinery possible. While mini excavators have been offered with breakers for many years, the company now also has augers, grabs and other attachments available, with rotate function hydraulic lines installed on larger excavator models.
“Every excavator 2.7-tonnes and above is specified with a hydraulic quickhitch and auxiliary hydraulics,” said Mr Collings.
Rentool has established a strong relationship with Kubota dealer Lister Wilder and the company’s own service workshop is approved by Kubota to carry out all service and repair work during the warranty term. However, the dealer is always on hand to provide essential parts and technical back-up when required.
“The Kubota equipment is particularly good and we get excellent service from Lister Wilder,” he said.
The KX085-5 is currently Kubota’s largest compact excavator, weighing in at 8.4-tonnes with a monoboom, or 9.0-tonnes with a two-piece articulating boom. Powered by a 46.5kW (63.2hp) Stage V diesel engine, the machine uses a load-sensing twopump hydraulic system to ensure smooth operation and consistent productivity.
A well-balanced excavator, the KX085-5 delivers up to 7.33m of forward reach and a maximum digging depth of up to 4.6m, making it a versatile model for a wide range of industry sectors. Equipped as standard with the Kubota Tracking System, operators can remotely access operational performance in real-time, to plan maintenance, diagnose faults and ensure maximum on-site security.

Liebherr not only offers a wide range of highly productive, fuel-efficient and reliable wheel loaders, but has also developed an impressive portfolio of safety and operator assistance systems. These innovations are designed to make daily wheel loader operations safer, more intuitive and significantly more efficient. Spanning nine models across the Midand XPower® ranges, Liebherr wheel
loaders cover operating weights from 13.1 to 34 tonnes. Machines in this class are commonly used in recycling facilities, sawmills and quarrying operations – environments that are typically fastpaced and congested. In these settings, interaction with other machines, site traffic and potentially pedestrians is frequent, making robust safety and assistance technologies essential for both productivity and peace of mind.

Liebherr wheel loaders are engineered with safety at the forefront, combining intelligent design with advanced technology. While the elevated driving position and expansive glazed cab already provide excellent visibility to the front and sides, certain blind spots are unavoidable on any large machine. To support operators, most models in the range include a full colour rear mounted camera as standard, delivering a sharp, high resolution image directly to the in cab display. Paired with heated, power adjustable mirrors, this setup meets the visibility requirements of many day to day applications. However, true to Liebherr’s commitment to continuous improvement, the company has pushed beyond the basics. Over recent years, in-house engineering teams have developed a suite of advanced systems designed to significantly enhance safety around wheel loaders.
To address hazards behind the machine, Liebherr has introduced its own active rear personnel detection system on
models from the L 526 upwards. This technology continually monitors the rear working zone and provides the operator with both visual and audible warnings when a person is detected.
A further layer of safety is provided by the integrated brake assistant: as soon as the detection system triggers an alert, the loader decelerates to a standstill –without harsh or abrupt braking. Thanks to sophisticated camera based recognition, the system can differentiate between people and objects without requiring personnel to wear transponders or sensors, making it one of the most practical and effective solutions currently available.
360°
While 360° camera systems are not new to the market, Liebherr has elevated the concept with its Skyview 360° system. Equipped with four strategically positioned cameras, the system captures the machine’s full surroundings and merges the footage into a seamless bird’s eye view. This is presented on a dedicated display in the cab, giving the operator instant, all round environmental awareness. With just a glance, the operator can identify obstacles,
Where innovation meets performance
assess blind spots and classify danger zones, ultimately improving both safety and productivity during daily operations.
In waste and recycling applications, wheel loaders often run oversized buckets that can obscure forward visibility. To counter this, Liebherr offers an elevated, roof mounted camera that significantly extends the operator’s field of view. This delivers exceptional visibility of the front operating area, even when handling bulky attachments.
Lighting is an essential yet frequently overlooked safety factor. Although LED lighting is standard across all Liebherr wheel loaders, traditional forward facing lights could be partially obscured when loader arms were raised – creating temporary shadows in the working area.
Liebherr’s automated adaptive lighting system solves this issue. Using modern light sensors, the system automatically adjusts the LED headlights to the position of the loader arms, the attachment and the machine’s articulation angle.
This ensures consistent, uniform illumination of the entire working zone. An additional front section headlight and automatic dimming of the working lights prevent operator glare while reducing shadows and reflections. The result is ideal visibility in all conditions, enabling operators to work more safely, comfortably and with reduced fatigue – particularly in dark or low light environments.
With the safety aspects of wheel loader operation addressed, Liebherr also offers a range of advanced systems designed to boost operator productivity.
The integrated joystick steering system keeps the operator in a more natural, relaxed seating position. Its responsive control reduces fatigue over long shifts. On models from the L 526 upward, the recently upgraded system provides precise feedback on the machine’s steering direction – the joystick’s orientation now mirrors the articulation angle exactly. Intelligent force feedback ensures smooth, safe steering in all conditions, at any speed and on any surface.
Liebherr’s weighing system functions as an intelligent, automatic checking scale with dynamic weighing range adjustment. Unlike many retrofitted systems, it operates across a wide lifting range without requiring a specific lift height. Clear in cab displays help operators work efficiently, and operators can enter a target load weight directly. Truck Payload Assist builds on this by recommending optimal filling weights and the required number of loading cycles. This minimises re weighing, saves time and fuel, and significantly increases both operator and machine productivity.

Liebherr wheel loaders are also available with programmable bucket functions that streamline repetitive tasks. Operators can set return to dig to automatically position the bucket and arms at a pre defined angle for repeated loading. Additionally, lift arms can be programmed to raise or lower automatically to specific heights, improving cycle times and reducing operator fatigue.
Unveiled at Bauma 2025, Liebherr’s fully autonomous wheel loader is engineered for repetitive, monotonous tasks such as loading hoppers or transporting materials, helping overcome labour shortages and allowing staff to focus on more varied, skilled work. The system is planned through the intuitive “Autonomous Job Planner” web application, requiring no specialist IT knowledge, and uses 3D environmental sensors to detect
surroundings, piles and obstacles without drones or external surveying tools. Once deployed, the loader navigates and works independently, continually adapting to changes on site and operating without GPS, making it suitable for indoor environments, underground locations, high quarry faces or areas with heavy tree cover – conditions where conventional GPS-based systems fail. Capable of continuous, round-the-clock material handling, the autonomous loader ensures consistent performance from the moment it starts, improving predictability and planning accuracy across operations. Its software controlled driving style reduces component and tyre wear as well as fuel consumption, lowering operating costs while maintaining machine-friendly operation. At any time, operators can switch seamlessly between conventional manual control and full autonomy, maximising utilisation and delivering a safer, more efficient and more flexible approach to modern wheel loader productivity.

In today’s construction landscape, speed, safety, and sustainability are no longer optional – they are essential. Across the UK and Ireland, national housebuilders are turning to modern methods of construction that deliver certainty on programme, cost control, and compliance. At the forefront of this evolution is Spantherm® from Creagh Concrete, an off-site insulated precast concrete flooring system designed specifically for residential and commercial ground floors.
Manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, Spantherm® represents a fully integrated solution backed by one of the UK’s largest precast concrete manufacturers. Creagh operates manufacturing facilities and offices in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, providing the capacity
and infrastructure required to meet the demands of large-scale residential developments. This multi-site manufacturing footprint ensures resilience in supply chains, regional responsiveness, and the ability to deliver projects efficiently throughout the UK and Ireland.
For national housebuilders operating across multiple regions, this geographic coverage is critical. It ensures consistency in product quality, technical support, and

installation expertise – regardless of site location. Creagh’s off-site production model guarantees precision engineering within controlled factory environments, significantly reducing variability compared to traditional on-site construction methods. Spantherm® units are produced as highperformance insulated structural concrete components, delivered ready for rapid installation. By manufacturing off-site, Creagh maintains rigorous quality control standards, ensuring every unit meets exact design specifications before arriving on-site.
Spantherm® is a modern method of construction (MMC) solution that redefines how ground floors are delivered. It is specifically designed for residential and commercial applications, providing a fast, safe, and thermally efficient alternative to traditional beam and block systems. The system integrates structural concrete with expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation, with tightly butted units that lock in thermal performance across the slab. It is a true “fabric-first” solution, helping
housebuilders achieve enhanced SAP ratings and comply with building regulations across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.
With U-values achievable as low as 0.08 W/m²K, Spantherm® delivers outstanding thermal performance while reducing cold bridging at wall-to-floor junctions. Time is money on any development. Spantherm® is engineered to accelerate build programmes dramatically. Typical floors can be installed in under one hour, creating an immediate safe working platform.
The installation process is streamlined:
• Units are delivered ready for installation
• Units are positioned and jointed with structural grout
• The floor is safe and accessible immediately after fitting
• Full structural strength is achieved within 72 hours
A 90m² floor can be installed in under 90 minutes, eliminating the need for bedding and cutting slip blocks, avoiding insulation damage, and removing the complexity associated with beam and block construction. There is no requirement for on-site insulation storage, and service openings are precast within the units – further enhancing efficiency.
One of the additional commercial advantages of Spantherm® is that it can eliminate the need for two courses of blockwork at foundation level.
In traditional beam and block construction, blockwork is often built up from the footing to create the correct bearing height for the floor system. Typically, two additional courses of block (approximately 225mm in total) are required before the beam and block floor can be installed.
Because Spantherm® is a structural, insulated precast unit with integrated depth (300mm or 375mm depending on specification), it can span directly from the inner leaf at a lower level. This often removes the need to build up those extra two courses of blockwork.
• Less blockwork material required
• Reduced labour and bricklaying time
• Lower mortar usage

• Faster progression to floor installation
• Reduced overall foundation height build-up For housebuilders, this translates into cost savings on materials and labour, quicker programme times at substructure stage, and reduced site congestion. It also improves thermal detailing at the wall-tofloor junction, contributing to better Psi values and overall fabric performance.
Construction safety is paramount, and Spantherm® has been designed to significantly reduce on-site risk. The system removes manual handling of heavy blocks, reduces vehicular movements, and eliminates the need to work at height during installation. Mechanical offload ensures controlled, precise placement.
The benefits extend beyond safety. There is zero waste associated with insulation cutting, reduced exposure to wet concrete on-site, and significantly lower labour requirements. The ‘no void’ option also reduces excavation requirements –offering further time and cost savings.
Spantherm® holds both BBA and NSAI certification, providing assurance of technical compliance and long-term performance.
With a designed working life of 50 years, the system offers durability that aligns with residential warranty requirements.

National housebuilders demand consistency, scalability, and reliability. Spantherm® delivers all three.
Creagh’s extensive manufacturing network across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland allows it to support multi-site developments with uniform quality standards and coordinated logistics. The company’s ability to supply, install, and provide in-situ structural topping solutions under a single package further simplifies procurement. From regional housing schemes to major residential frameworks, Spantherm® has become the ground floor solution of choice for developers seeking faster build cycles, enhanced energy performance, and reduced on-site risk. As building regulations tighten and the drive toward low-carbon construction accelerates, off-site solutions like Spantherm® are no longer the future – they are the present.

Across Ireland’s construction sector, we are seeing increased expectations and conversations about plant machinery performance. Contractors are no longer only focusing on the capability of their machines, but now on the reliability and long-term operational value that each of their machines has. In today’s world, we are seeing tighter restrictions and increasing compliance requirements on sites with machinery downtime, only causing disruptiveness and project delays.
As a result of this, smart construction solutions have matured with new technologies available to contractors. Rather than being viewed as a concept, smart construction is now being increasingly understood as a practical approach to increasing uptime, reducing downtime on site and helping to provide better decisions throughout the lifecycle of plant and equipment.
We now live in an age where everything can be accessed through a device in your hand, where information flows from every corner of the world and beyond, so why should your plant machinery be any different? Many machines are equipped with advanced telematics systems that are capable of providing contractors with detailed analytics into the condition of their fleet. However, while access to these analytics has significantly improved, the real challenge lies in how contractors interpret the information and how they apply it to their everyday operations.
In many cases, plant and equipment managers are faced with an overwhelming volume of alerts, warnings and fault codes, which don’t all require immediate attention. Without clear prioritisation, critical issues can be hard to identify, and slow operations on site, as they try to interpret them. This has highlighted the importance within smart construction that having the data available is not the same as having actionable insight.
From a dealer’s perspective, this presents an opportunity to help support our customers better. At Pat O’Donnell & Co., we work closely with contractors across Ireland, which has reinforced the importance of moving beyond reactive service models. Increasingly, more and more of our customers are seeking proactive support solutions or smarter solutions that help them anticipate any issues before they escalate, allowing them to better plan and have greater confidence in their fleet. Machine monitoring has become a key part of this approach. By assessing machine data, potential issues are caught early and are addressed quickly. This reduces the likelihood of disruptive breakdowns and supports a more structured service planning that works with site activity rather than emergency response.
One example of this proactive model is Volvo ActiveCare. Built on Volvo Construction Equipment’s telematics infrastructure, ActiveCare provides expert-led, 24/7 remote monitoring of connected machines. When

an issue is identified, contractors receive clear guidance with recommended actions and what the potential consequences are. This allows for better communication and clear understanding, making sound choices with significant time and financial implications. ActiveCare also provides customers with detailed reporting to show how their machine is operating in real-time, supporting customers’ decisionmaking and also giving them a better understanding of their machine operation. From a service delivery standpoint, early visibility provides a more co-ordinated response. With advanced insight into any potential issues, the contractor can spend more time working and less time waiting. Thanks to remote diagnosis, the technician will arrive on site suitably prepared for the job. Beyond operational benefits, this proactive monitoring also contributes to longer-term improvement across fleets. As patterns are identified through ongoing analysis, this can highlight recurring issues, usage trends or training needs. The dealer can discuss specifications, operator behaviour and lifecycle planning. Over time, this supports better asset utilisation and greater value from equipment investments. The benefits of Volvo ActiveCare extend across fleets of all sizes. While larger
“THE GOAL IS TO TURN DATA INTO INFORMATION, AND INFORMATION INTO INSIGHT.” CARLY FIORINA
contractors may operate extensive plant resources, smaller businesses often feel the impact of unplanned downtime more acutely. For these operators, access to this monitoring provides the added layer of assurance, helping to mitigate risk and maintain momentum on site.
As the construction industry evolves, the role of the dealer is changing too. Today, contractors aren’t just looking for a supplier, they want a partner who can offer continuity, insights, and long-term support for their fleet. Smart construction, in this context, is about integrating technology, service expertise and collaboration to support more reliable outcomes.
For Pat O’Donnell & Co, the focus remains on supporting customers to build predictability into their plant operations, ensuring equipment performs safely, reliably and efficiently throughout its working life. ActiveCare is delivering value where it counts, and customers are seeing the reward and benefit of it, playing a vital role in their business. Isn’t it time that you switched on Active Care! With a variety of design options available, Tracey Concrete’s MaxumStone Big Block Retaining Wall is the perfect solution for any situation. Recognised as the leading expert in retaining wall solutions, MaxumStone combines aesthetic appeal with practical design to deliver dependable and confident performance. The wet-cast interlocking concrete block wall system has been thoughtfully created to cater to the engineer and contractor alike – demonstrated through its fusion of strength, superior drainage, hollow core design, low absorption and outstanding freeze-thaw durability.
As an industry leader, MaxumStone has the technical edge; differentiating itself in the market with the Extender System. While standard retaining walls often require geogrid – necessitating massive excavation – the MaxumStone design is an effective, efficient alternative. By attaching concrete “tails” (extenders) to the back of the blocks, the wall’s centre of gravity shifts, therefore enabling Gravity Walls to reach heights that would normally require geogrid. This makes the system viable for sites with boundary constraints.
MaxumStone’s innovative features conquer hydrostatic challenges too. Because the blocks are hollow, the entire vertical column of the wall acts as a massive drainage pipe when filled with clear-crushed stone. Water moves freely through the block cores and out the base, ensuring the soil behind the wall stays dry and stable. This proactive approach ensures safety in critical applications, such as infrastructure projects near public walkways or highways.
Tracey Concrete’s MaxumStone further stands out with its innovative wet-cast production method, setting it apart from the dry-cast styles adopted in smaller systems. This approach guarantees:
• Durability: Wet-cast concrete is less porous, making it virtually impervious to the freeze-thaw cycles common in UK and Irish climates
• Finish quality: The wet-cast process allows for much higher detail in the mold. The “Ledgestone” face isn’t just a pattern; it has deep relief and varied textures that catch the light, designed

to pass planning permissions in areas with strict aesthetic codes
MaxumStone also emphasises “efficiency through geometry” to mitigate environmental impact. By designing a lighter block, approximately 621 kg compared to a solid 1,800 kg equivalent, Maxumstone reduces the weight per unit. This weight difference allows for more units per flatbed truck, significantly reducing the carbon cost of transport per square meter of wall delivered.
In today’s labour-constrained environment, installation efficiency can make all the difference. Each MaxumStone block covers the same area as approximately 15 to 20 smaller retaining wall blocks, allowing for quicker coverage. When used with a lifter, a single operator can install a block in just minutes, significantly reducing the number of workers needed.

Tracey Concrete is proud to carry forward a 60-year legacy of excellence in the precast concrete industry. Beginning as a family-run readymix business, it has evolved into a leading supplier of precast drainage, tunnelling, power and infrastructure, fencing, agriculture & building products across the UK and Ireland.

Operating from Unit 20, Down Business Park in Downpatrick, Top Survey was created to bridge a growing gap in the industry – the disconnect between advanced digital construction technology and meaningful, responsive local support. The mission was clear from the outset: deliver intelligent construction solutions backed by people who understand both the technology and the realities of live construction sites.
At the core of Top Survey is a team whose combined expertise spans civil engineering, technical servicing, surveying and digital construction technology. Matthew, a civil engineer and graduate of Queen’s University
Belfast, brings extensive experience in land surveying and site engineering, with his specialist areas including 3D model creation, cut-and-fill analysis, drone surveying and machine control integration. Backed by his extensive experience and knowledge, he plays a pivotal role in ensuring that projects are delivered with accurate, siteready data, while also overseeing aftercare and ongoing support – a crucial element of Top Survey’s client relationships.
Complementing these capabilities is Darran Foster, a survey equipment expert with over 25 years’ experience in the industry. Darran’s depth of knowledge in survey equipment, calibration and technical systems underpins the company’s reputation for reliability. As the lead survey

and equipment specialist, he ensures every system installed meets the highest standards of precision and performance.
Since launching, Top Survey has continued to strengthen its internal capability, in which the company has expanded its team to include a dedicated support technician currently undertaking an apprenticeship in digital construction, reinforcing its commitment to investing in the future of the industry. In addition, the appointment of an office manager has enhanced Top Survey’s operational efficiency even more, ensuring that customer communication and project co-ordination run seamlessly behind-the-scenes.
Top Survey is the authorised dealer for GeoMax across Northern Ireland, providing high performance survey equipment, including total stations, GNSS GPS systems and advanced scanning solutions designed for demanding site conditions. The company is also the main distributor for Unicontrol machine control systems across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Unicontrol has earned a reputation as one of the most intuitive and user-friendly 3D machine control systems available globally, empowering operators to work smarter, faster and with greater accuracy.

A major milestone in 2025 has been the formation of an official dealership partnership in Northern Ireland with C&C Mechanical based in Omagh. This partnership strengthens regional accessibility and ensures customers west of the River Bann benefit from localised expertise backed by Top Survey’s technical and modelling support.
Beyond Northern Ireland, expansion into Scotland is well underway. With an established sales and fitting presence already operating there, Top Survey is building strong partnerships with respected Scottish companies to replicate its support-driven model across the region.
Throughout this year, Top Survey will be present at a range of key industry events across Ireland and Scotland. These include the Balmoral Spring Show at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, exhibitions in Cavan, the main Balmoral Show, the National Ploughing Championships, ScotPlant and potentially the Royal Highland Show and the Black Isle Show, alongside various other agricultural and plant exhibitions. SUPPORT. SUPPORT. SUPPORT
Machine control technology is advancing rapidly – but technology alone is not enough. Contractors need accessible expertise, modelling support, and rapid troubleshooting. From 3D model preparation and cut-fill analysis to drone integration and real-time system support, Top Survey ensures Unicontrol systems perform exactly as intended on site.

As digital construction continues to evolve across Ireland and Scotland, Top Survey sees itself playing a pivotal role in that transformation. The company’s vision is simple: make advanced construction technology accessible, understandable and fully supported. By combining industry-leading solutions with strong regional partnerships and an unwavering commitment to aftercare, Top Survey is building a support network contractors can rely on longterm. Because digital construction should make life easier – and with the right support behind it, it does.

Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies (QMS) has recently fulfilled a number of orders for members of its cone crusher family, with various B3 cone crushers in recent months being ordered and installed in France, Belgium and East Africa.
B-Series Cone Crushers are manufactured by QMS in the UK. They are designed and built to deliver class-leading cone crushing performance, dependability, and ease of operation, all backed by marketleading after-sales support.
“The B-Series cone crushers combine robust design and high performance with a combination of high motor power, large throw and higher speed giving these crushers capacities greater than other crushers of comparable size,” explained QMS Managing Director, Jonathan Beck. “These features, and others, were identified by our new customers in France, Belgium and East Africa.”
B-Series cone crushers have been designed to meet exacting product quality demands, with the crushers producing material of excellent shape and high quality with setting adjustment being easily made during production in seconds. A unique hydraulic system provides automatic overload protection by allowing the head assembly to drop thereby permitting the passage of tramp iron and other non-crushable material.
The system then automatically returns the head assembly to its original position. These, and other features, have seen new QMS B3 Cone Crushers designed, manufactured, shipped and installed in France and East Africa.
B-Series cone crushers are also available in XC versions, with the B-Series XC crusher being specifically designed for use in secondary crushing applications. It has very large intake capability and high capacity in relation to its size which is achieved with
a very long crushing chamber. To provide optimal operation economy, the long chamber is divided in three sections –upper concave, lower concave and mantle – which can be exchanged at different intervals.
All the B-Series cone crushers come integrated with QMS’ Complete Crusher Control (C3) which controls all aspects of the crusher operation.
“Operating the crusher could not be simpler: the automatic start up routine incorporates cavity calibration to compensate for liner wear; automatic adjustments

are made to the crusher setting to give consistent and reliable product shape. Pressure and power in relation to load are automatically adjusted to suit rock properties, moisture etc. All influencing conditions are taken into consideration, 24 hours a day,” Jonathan continued. Furthermore, C3 automatically monitors all health functions and provides the operator with information via a touch screen HMI (Human Machine Interface). This screen can be located at the side of the crusher or within a control room via an integrated ethernet connection. The remote touch screen gives full process control, and displays continual real time monitoring of all parameters, and logs all events and alarms. The operating hours of the crusher can be seen at a glance, both on and off load. Energy costs can be calculated as C3 records kW/h used.
Jonathan concluded: “The touch screen PLC also stores pdf versions of all operator manuals, spare parts list, and electrical layouts and includes the main and auxiliary starters, eliminating the need for any third-party electrical equipment. As C3 is an integrated part of the crusher system, it also eliminates nearly all local electrical installation work. The only requirement is for power to be connected. As our new customers in France, East Africa and Belgium have told us, this feature makes a real difference in the field.”

Recent reports highlighting economic projections for Northern Ireland give cause for a certain degree of optimism for the year ahead.
I recently attended the University of Ulster Economic Policy Centre’s launch of their economic projections for 2026. There is definitely low growth ahead for Northern Ireland but similar to other regions, we face significant unpredictability due to unprecedented geo political turbulence.
Long-term forecasts expect the volume of construction output in NI to continue growing moderately through 2026, albeit slower than the UK average. The most recent Danske Bank forecasts construction output rising by about ~1.2% in 2026, down slightly from 2025. Some industry analysis suggests recovery after recent challenges, with project starts forecast to grow more strongly in 2027, implying 2026 is transitional. Where is growth coming from? Housing and infrastructure work remain important drivers, along with maintenance and public sector projects. The overall outlook is that construction growth will continue in 2026 but at a modest pace, with stronger momentum expected to build in subsequent years as investment pipelines and project starts recover.
Danske Bank expect the Northern Ireland manufacturing sector to grow only modestly in 2026, around 0.7%, reflecting high business costs, skills shortages, and trade uncertainties. This moderate outlook mirrors broader trends in UK manufacturing, output remains sensitive to external demand, supply chain pressures, and investment cycles.
MPANI recently wrote to all of our elected MLAs highlighting what we believe must be the key priorities for our Executive and
Assembly as we start 2026. Taking the decisions that will help kick start growth, deliver infrastructure and enable net zero are not an option, they are a necessity!
As we enter 2026, Northern Ireland faces significant economic, infrastructure and energy challenges, but also clear opportunities to unlock growth and investment.
MPANI members, who supply the essential materials that underpin housing, roads, water, energy and renewable infrastructure, are calling on the NI Assembly and Executive to provide the leadership, certainty and decisions required to sustain growth and competitiveness.
1. Long-Term Capital
Funding Certainty
Immediately agree a multi-year capital budget for consultation through to 2030, with full Executive agreement by the end of March.
Long-term certainty is critical to:
• Plan and deliver major infrastructure
• Reduce inflation, delays and inefficiencies
• Enable private sector investment in skills, apprenticeships, decarbonisation and creation of good jobs!
2. Fully Fund NI Water (PC28)
Take the necessary decisions to ensure NI Water’s next Price Control (PC28) is fully-funded.
Continued underfunding is:
• Restricting housing supply
• Constraining economic growth
• Driving higher long-term costs

3. Use Existing Powers to Grow the Executive’s Budget
Encourage the NI Executive to use the revenue-raising powers it already has. Without action:
• Infrastructure and our most important built assets will continue to deteriorate, creating longer-term costs
• Economic competitiveness with our neighbours will be eroded
• Costs will escalate for future generations as we continue to “kick the can down the road”
4. Publish the Investment Strategy
Agree and publish the long-awaited Investment Strategy without further delay.
Industry needs clarity on:
• Infrastructure priorities
• Net zero pathways
• Alignment between public and private investment
5. Complete Planning Reform
Finalise and implement the planning changes already agreed through the planning review process.
A more efficient system is essential to:
• Accelerate infrastructure delivery
• Reduce uncertainty and cost
• Support sustainable development
6. Reduce Energy Costs and Enable Net Zero
Take decisive action to reduce energy prices in Northern Ireland.
Ensure the transition to net zero is practical, affordable and competitive.

High energy costs are undermining:
• Business investment
• Decarbonisation
• Jobs and growth
7. Working in Partnership
Business and industry stand ready and willing to work with you to deliver these outcomes. With political leadership, longterm planning and timely decisions, Northern Ireland can unlock investment, deliver critical infrastructure and build a resilient low-carbon economy.
The association has also written to all government departments, clients, designers, housing associations, NHBC and construction contractors to highlight the importance of specifying third-party quality assured construction products.
As our industry continues to face increasing demands for performance, durability, sustainability, and safety, the quality and consistency of construction materials have never been more important. One of the most effective ways to safeguard project integrity is through the specification and use of third-party quality assured construction products, particularly in relation to readymixed concrete and precast concrete.
MPANI wish to highlight the critical importance of ensuring that all concrete supplied to your projects is sourced from producers accredited by QSRMC (Quality Scheme for

Ready Mixed Concrete), BSI Kitemark, or an equivalent independent certification body.
Third-party certification provides independent verification that concrete products consistently meet recognised national and European standards, such as BS EN 206 and BS 8500. It assures that:
• Materials, production processes, and testing regimes are regularly audited and meet the highest standards
• Compliance is independently verified, not just claimed by the supplier
• Performance and durability are maintained across all batches, reducing risk of failure or costly remedial work
• Traceability and accountability are embedded throughout the supply chain.
Designers and specifiers rely on the declared performance characteristics of concrete to achieve the structural and aesthetic objectives of a project. Using uncertified or unregulated products introduces unnecessary risk – to the structure, to safety, and ultimately to professional reputation.
Specifying only QSRMC, BSI, or equivalent quality-assured suppliers ensures that the concrete delivered matches the strength, durability, and exposure classifications on which the design is based.
Accredited suppliers are also required to meet rigorous standards on sustainability, resource
efficiency, and environmental performance, aligning with the construction sector’s drive towards net zero and responsible sourcing under BES 6001 and related frameworks.
We strongly encourage all clients, architects, and design teams to:
• Specify ready-mixed and precast concrete that is independently certified under QSRMC, BSI, or equivalent schemes
• Include explicit reference to this requirement within project specifications, tender documentation, and site procurement
• Reject non-certified suppliers, whose products may not meet essential performance or compliance standards By maintaining these standards, we collectively protect the quality, safety, and long-term value of Northern Ireland’s built environment.
If you would like further guidance or sample specification wording, MPANI would be pleased to assist.
QSRMC and BSI have kindly provided MPANI with up-to-date information listing all current companies, and their registered sites, who are Quality Assured for manufacture of readymix concrete. These can be downloaded on the MPANI website at www.mpani.org/ key-issues/concrete-built-is-better-built.
If you’re interested in becoming a full or affiliate member of MPANI and get access to up-to-date industry news and guidance, don’t hesitate to give me a call on 07876 136 929. It would be great to have you on-board.
May I wish you all a safe and successful 2026.

Calgary Rolling Mix Concrete can testify to the power and performance of Rokbak articulated haulers at a high-output pit in Alberta, Canada, thanks to the RA40’s exceptional design, reliable dealer support and a smart fleet management plan.
Every year, half a million tons of sand and gravel are produced from Calgary Rolling Mix Concrete’s crushing operation in Alberta, Canada, in order to provide high-quality concrete for everything from foundations and walls to driveways, sidewalks, patios and more.
To manage this, Rolling Mix Concrete, which celebrated seven decades of production in 2025, employs a large fleet of heavy equipment, to which three Rokbak RA40 articulated haulers have been added. Headwater Equipment, Rokbak’s trusted Alberta dealer, helped supply the trio of hardworking articulated haulers to the pit in Carseland, a hamlet in the province.
Rolling Mix Concrete’s decision as to what to add to their fleet to support its operation came

down to the key factors of reliability, minimal downtime, fuel efficiency and exceptional aftermarket support.
The RA40 has a haul capacity of 41.9 US tons (38 tonnes) and a heaped capacity of 30.3 yd³. Each hauler has proven its worth across the Carseland Pit, hauling large amounts of material to meet Rolling Mix Concrete’s demanding production numbers with a 66-degree dump angle and dual-slope tail chute that speeds up material ejection.
Two RA40 articulated haulers were delivered to the site in 2023 and immediately put into operation, with a third unit arriving in 2025. Excavators load overburden into the RA40’s allwelded body to transport sand and gravel across Carseland Pit for production.
The RA40 body is fabricated from high-strength 1,000 MPa (1450,000 lbf/ in²) yield steel. Finished in Rokbak’s signature sand-
coloured paint, the haulers have quickly made an impression on site.
“The Rokbak dump truck is ideal for our operations at Carseland Pit,” said Morris Roberts, Rolling Mix Concrete’s Service and Purchasing Manager.
“Since the RA40s arrived, operator feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
“They’ve praised the fuel efficiency, which is saving us money, but also the auto-lube system, visibility and cab comfort. We understand a smoother ride translates directly to higher productivity. Combined with the excellent aftersales support we’ve received from Headwater, we can’t recommend Rokbak highly enough, and it’ll certainly be top of the list when it comes to expanding our ADT fleet again.” Operators themselves have also taken notice of the difference. “The cab is comfortable and quiet, even on rough ground,” said Renato Angelozzi, an Operator at Calgary Rolling Mix Concrete. “The visibility is excellent, and the controls are simple and responsive. You don’t feel worn out at the end of a long shift, which makes a big difference.”
The RA40 is designed and built entirely at a factory in Motherwell, Scotland, and engineered for efficiency and operator comfort. Its fully automatic transmission delivers smooth, responsive gear shifts, reducing fuel consumption while maintaining performance in the toughest conditions. Inside the cab, operators benefit from a pressurised environment with a modern HVAC and airflow system, providing superior comfort and control throughout long shifts. Performance-wise, the RA40 offers excellent traction and an optimised power-to-weight ratio, enabling fast and reliable material movement in all conditions. This functionality ensures maximum productivity at minimal operating cost. Its fuel-efficient drivetrain not only delivers powerful performance but also meets global emission standards, balancing low cost of ownership with reduced environmental impact.
Safety and durability are further enhanced by force-cooled multi-disc brakes, complemented by an electronically activated exhaust brake and a six-stage modulating transmission retarder. This combination extends brake component life while improving overall safety. The integrated auto-lube system ensures components are greased precisely when needed, minimising downtime, reducing maintenance risks and keeping the fleet running at peak efficiency.
“The thought behind the design and look behind the truck was apparent from day one but has been shown over many, many operating hours,” commented Morris, who has over four decades of experience in the industry and is tasked with ensuring Calgary Rolling Mix Concrete’s equipment stays productive and reliable.
“I know what we need to do to keep Rolling Mix moving, and we’ve been proud to see Rokbak trucks rising to that challenge,” he added. “Rokbak was ultimately the right choice.”
To maximise uptime and maintain a modern, low-hour fleet, Rolling Mix Concrete is implementing a rotation programme where one RA40 is traded in every three years at around 6,000 hours, with a brandnew truck brought in to replace it.

With the addition of the Rokbak haulers, the fleet is running stronger than ever. And while the trucks take care of the hauling, Headwater Equipment is standing behind Calgary Rolling Mix Concrete every step of the way.
Since arriving on site, the three RA40 haulers have already clocked up significant work, a testament to the demanding tasks at Carseland Pit. One truck has logged about 5,000 hours and 45,000 km, another has reached roughly 2,500 hours and more than 20,500 km, and the most recent addition has already accumulated around 300 hours and over 2,000 km in 2025. Each truck typically hauls material on a 0.75–1 km route one way, for an approximately 2 km round trip.
Headwater Equipment takes care of all scheduled maintenance right at the site, with the Calgary-based team delivering sales, service and parts support just a short drive from the pit. That combination of machine performance and dealer backing is exactly why Rolling Mix Concrete invested in the three Rokbak RA40 ADTs.

“The RA40 trucks have delivered and will continue to deliver, as will our support,” said Robin Dick, Territory Manager at Headwater Equipment.
“We’re happy to testify to the power and performance of the Rokbak RA40,” added Morris. “It’s a truck that consistently delivers, whether it’s fuel savings, uptime or operator comfort.
“The RA40 has proven it can handle the toughest conditions without compromise, and that level of reliability directly supports our productivity and bottom line.”
“It’s fantastic to see the RA40 trucks performing so strongly at Carseland Pit,” commented Greg Gerbus, Regional Sales Manager at Rokbak. “We design these haulers to combine strength, efficiency and comfort, and the feedback from Rolling Mix Concrete proves that.
“Our goal is always to provide customers with trucks that deliver long-term value and dependable performance, backed by the support they need from our partners to keep operations running smoothly.”

To further enhance the circularity of soil and stone waste materials on the island of Ireland, wet processing experts CDE, and Enva, one of the UK and Ireland’s leading environmental services and resource recovery businesses, have announced the development of a new 180 tonnes per hour (tph) Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste wash plant to be commissioned in County Kildare. In late 2024, Enva expanded its soil recovery business in Ireland with the acquisition of Walshestown Restoration Limited, a leading restoration and recovery partner dedicated to the sustainable treatment of soils, and the recovery of sand, gravel, soil, and stone from recycled materials. The 100-acre facility is licensed to accept 330,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste annually, predominantly consisting of waste soil and stone. This facility near Naas, County Kildare, is where the 180tph wet processing plant, designed and engineered by CDE, will process a variety of brownfield construction, demolition, and excavation (CD&E) wastes to recover premium sand and aggregate products suitable for highvalue construction and critical infrastructure projects across the eastern region.
CDE Business Development Manager, Garry Stewart, said: “This is a welcome step in the right direction, but there’s still a long road ahead. Our partnership with Enva demonstrates the role that private industry can play when it comes to addressing the waste burden and advancing the circular economy for the benefit of all. As regulations evolve, there are significant gains to be made for those businesses that recognise the strategic imperative of waste recycling for sustainable business growth.”
The construction and demolition sector in Ireland generated an estimated nine million tonnes of waste in 2023, up over eight per cent from 8.3 million tonnes in 2022, according to statistics from the EPA. Approximately 81 per cent of this waste stream consists of soil, stones, and dredging spoil, amounting to 7.3 million tonnes. Of all construction and demolition waste generated in Ireland in 2023, three-quarters (75 per cent) was used for backfilling, while 12 per cent was disposed of and 11 per cent was recycled.
In the decade leading up to 2023, construction and demolition waste in Ireland grew by 300 per cent.
Despite the rise in construction and demolition waste, construction output declined in 2023, according to the Central Statistics Office. Over the year from Q4 2022 to Q4 2023, the production volume in construction decreased by 6.3 per cent.
Enva’s Managing Director, Richard Kennedy, commented: “We’re proud to announce our partnership with CDE on the installation of our new, state-of-the-art sand and aggregates recycling plant. The largest of its kind in Ireland, this investment directly supports Enva’s sustainability goals and our broader commitment to providing circular economy solutions.
“This facility enables us to meet the increasing demand for high-quality recycled aggregates, helping our customers reduce their dependence on virgin materials, and significantly lower the carbon footprint of construction and infrastructure projects in Ireland. It’s a vital step in delivering the sustainable solutions that modern developments now require, while conserving

natural resources for future generations and avoiding waste to landfill.”
The plant is expected to be operational in March 2026.

In the short time-frame since its formation, the evolution of Crushing & Screening Services NI (CSSNI) has exceeded even its founder and Managing Director, Enda Keenan’s, initial aspirations for success – celebrating industry success and milestones along the way.
And one of these pinnacle moments reached occurred in recent months, with Enda earning the prestigious High Achiever of the Year title at the 2025 Plant & Civil Engineer Awards.
This esteemed accolade not only honours hard work and leadership qualities, but a steadfast determination to succeed – and with his perseverance and passion, the judges deemed that Enda’s pursuit of excellence stands as the exemplification of just that. They commented: “In just five years, Enda has turned a one-man operation into a nationwide service trusted by leading names in quarrying,

recycling, and plant maintenance.
His attention-to-detail, integrity, and customer-first attitude have earned him immense respect among clients and peers alike.”
The award was presented at the ceremony in acknowledgement of the strides which Enda has secured for his company, including expanding the fleet, becoming the UK and Ireland agent for an oils and lubricants
brand, increasing his customer base, and extending his team with new engineers and an apprentice – all the while remaining on the road six days a week conducting repair and maintenance services nationwide.
The award win was undoubtedly a momentous achievement for the company, but for Enda, hearing his name revealed as the winner held personal poignancy.
He explained: “Winning the award shows that the effort, sacrifices and time away from home are worthwhile. It’s recognition of the work that nobody sees on a daily basis. When you break it down, at CSSNI I’m the business owner, head fitter, technical support, parts department, social media department and everything else in between, as well as a husband and father. I’m on the road six / seven days a week and then in the office to 12am or 1am in the morning. It consumes my life but this award is a sign that all of it is paying off and people are noticing.”
As ever, Enda and the team aren’t resting on their success and have already witnessed a surge in business since entering 2026, working with an impressive customer base ranging from major global manufacturers, dealer networks, distributors and customers within the quarrying, recycling and washing sectors. To help manage this sustained growth, Enda has harnessed the talent on his team, with his sights set on even further expansion.
“There are four of us in total on the team and we have four vans, while a young guy who recently joined for work experience is also going to come on-board as an apprentice, and my wife works in the office.
“The quality of people coming forward to work on the team compared to four years ago is a night and day difference now that the industry has more awareness of what we do. It takes a certain mindset to do this work and handle the pressure. You have to have the attitude where customers warm to you and you do a great job on the back of it.”
Another side of the business is thriving too, as CSSNI continues to keep the industry’s operation running at peak performance through its provision of a full range of MOL oils and lubricants. With more than 100 OEM approvals, MOL lubricants are trusted across the toughest industries, delivering proven reliability in the most demanding conditions. They’re suitable

for quarrying and crushing equipment; screening plants and heavy machinery; construction and earthmoving equipment; agricultural machinery and tractors; HGVs, vans and commercial transport; and plant, fleet and workshop applications.
Reflecting on the progress of the latest branch of the business, Enda said: “It’s moving big time and I’m really glad I took it on – and I will keep pushing this side of the company in the longterm. A lot of the customers I currently work with or do work for are using the products. If I’m servicing their machine,
I’m using these lubricants and explaining that they have the same quality and approvals as all the bigger brands – just at a more cost-effective price.
“The customers appreciate that I’m not just a sales man trying to sell them the products and get as much money as I can off them. I use the range myself and I’m there as a support network after the purchase for any concerns or questions they have.”
The busy momentum of 2026 so far is anticipated to set

the standard for the duration of CSSNI’s year, with Enda working on exciting plans and projects behind-the-scenes. But in the midst of change, the core ethos on which he originally established the company remains unwavering.
“We are a 24/7 professional service focused on minimising customer downtime and helping their businesses run as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible – that’s our passion. If somebody rings me any day of the year, we’ll do our best to help and be there for them if they need us, because we think of their business as our business. They’re family, not just clients.
“I came from nothing and didn’t have the support that many others may have had, so if I can give people support and help them in need – whether it’s from a business or personal point of view – I will do it. At CSSNI, we are transparent, honest, loyal and will always go above and beyond, and because of that, our customers keep coming back to us.”

Between the Foyle Bridge and Craigavon bridge on an elevated piece of ground is the site of the former Ebrington Barracks. The regeneration of the former barracks has created a worldclass square and significantly increased the economic viability of the area.
The investment in infrastructure and regeneration has been a great vision from the Executive Office to regenerate a previously end-of-life site. Today as you walk across the square there is a variety of different materials and enhanced public realm linking to the Peace Bridge and connecting to the city centre.
Looking at the history, the site’s military importance predates the barracks as its strategic position overlooking the River Foyle was used in the Siege
of Derry (1689) during the Williamite Wars. In 1841, the modern Ebrington Barracks were constructed as a British military base designed in the shape of a star fort, reflecting contemporary defensive principles. The 1919 postcard shows the elevation
viewed from the city side in 1919 and clearly shows the railway line along the quayside. That view has been retained with the new regeneration, albeit we have lost the railway connection on the city side.

During the Second World War Ebrington functioned as a naval base and refuelling / repair centre for warships operating in the North Atlantic. By 1945 the facilities helped oversee the surrender of German U-boats near Lisahally at the end of the European war. The military stance continued and during the troubles Ebrington became the main British Army base in Derry, hosting the 8th Infantry Brigade and supporting security operations throughout the city and northwest. It was targeted occasionally by dissident groups, including bombings and attempts to breach its perimeter in the early 2000s. As security conditions improved following the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, the drawdown of troops and closure of bases like Ebrington became markers of the peace process.

The barracks officially closed and was handed over to civilian authorities in 2003. I have had the opportunity of working on several of these sites over the last decade.
Since its military closure, the site has undergone major regeneration as a public urban destination and the catalyst was the linking of the site with the city centre with the peace bridge in 2011 opening it up to the public.
The former parade ground is now Ebrington Square, a large public plaza for events, concerts, festivals, and markets, transforming what was once a closed military space into an inclusive civic heart. It embodies significant public realm and cultural infrastructure, including the peace pledge tree and mute meadow art installation.
In 2025 the historic barrack buildings have been creatively
repurposed, including the opening of the Ebrington Hotel & Spa which transformed former military quarters into a luxury hotel and leisure venue.
The site has seen new restaurants, cafes, and craft brewery spaces, raising the profile of the riverside quarter. New offices and innovation hubs, such as the Amp, bring business and economic activity back to the site and reuse the former buildings. Work is currently underway on the construction of a new DNA Hub (Derry North Atlantic) which will house immersive galleries on Derry’s maritime and social history, including its wartime roles. It is a central part of the ongoing cultural revitalisation.
Recent planning approvals have expanded mixed-use development, including residential, commercial, and creative industry buildings, continuing the transformation
from military footprint to vibrant urban quarter.
I have had the honour of reviewing the transport proposals, including traffic management and can comment on how symbolic evolution has taken place transitioning from a symbol of military power and division to a site of peace, culture, and community regeneration where everyone can come together and celebrate events in the city.
Ebrington’s history mirrors Derry’s wider story, from strategic military stronghold, through global warfare and local conflict, to peace and regeneration. Once a closed, fortified symbol of state power, it has been deliberately re-imagined as an open, shared space.
This modern public space blends historic preservation of Ebrington with contemporary leisure, culture, and urban life, marking one of Derry’s most significant
examples of adaptive reuse. It is a real credit to everyone involved.
Elsewhere in the world of CIHT, in the last two months we held a workshop with the Society of Road Safety Auditors and a Professional Qualifications Seminar. Our last two technical events have been about the future of low carbon roads and an update on the NI Transport Plans. Forthcoming events include on 5th March our annual Northern Ireland dinner to be held at the iconic Transport Museum at Cultra; on 26th April a presentation on the asset management of the NI Road Network: and from 11th-to14th May our Annual Study tour which this year gets us on our bike in the Netherlands.

“At Ballyward Plant Services we get a lot of business from customers – both big and small – who really appreciate the personal touch and attention-to-detail in our service and support.”
And it is this theme which has been a running thread throughout Brian McCartan's experience since joining the business in October 2025. The values which underpin Ballyward Plant Services are not only shared and endorsed by Brian, but are similarly appreciated by the customer base he encounters. “It has been a brilliant experience
so far, especially joining such a family-run business where Robert McAlerney is the Managing Director; his wife, Ina, looks after the paperwork; and his son, Conor, and brother, Paul are engineers. I think that having the personal touch is the greatest advantage we have.
We’re a small family business and we’re interested in looking after people with similar ideals.”
Originating as a diesel mechanic, Brian kickstarted his career in a quarry in Banbridge before moving to a company in Lisburn where he was presented with the opportunity to work in sales
in 1999 – and since then, he has never looked back. Previously applying his sales skills to more corporate settings, Brian is grateful to Robert for not only “taking a chance on me” but also “the whole team for making me feel welcome from day one.”
For years, Ballyward Plant Services has been a sector stalwart for supplying equipment for the construction, quarrying, farming and recycling industries. The team provides sales, servicing, repairs, and genuine
parts, helping customers get the most from their machinery with trusted brands and local support. The company’s reputation is additionally strengthened by its reputable franchises in which it is proud dealers for Tobroco Giant, Hydrema, Engcon, Develon, Adler Brushes and MDE Attachments. The inventory includes a selection of Giant Wheel Loaders, Engcon Tilt Rotators, as well as new Hydrema dump trucks. And when speaking to Brian, the pride behind Ballyward’s provision of equipment and the manufacturers which the company associates with is palpable.
“Ballyward have really stuck to quality European brands and Robert only wants to deal with the very best in equipment that there is out there. From their build quality to their reliability and specs, the machines are simply unreal.”
Looking ahead, the company’s foundation of building strong connections with its customers is set to proceed through its upcoming activities, including exhibiting at the ICE Expo 2026, and encouraging clients to come along to the site to see the incredible equipment first-hand.
“I try to always be in the yard on a Monday, but somebody is always there for anybody who wants to come along try out the machinery first-hand. We are also excited to meet people when we exhibit at The ICE Expo in Punchestown, and our website has our contact information for anybody wishing to reach out.”
2026 is also set to feature further momentum in terms of the company’s in-house

activities, too, enthuses Brian.
“Since starting, I haven’t had the chance to visit any of the factories yet to see the new products coming. All of these manufacturers are constantly

innovating so it’s something I’m definitely hoping to do.
Meanwhile at Ballyward, the yard is constantly being upgraded and improved. There’s lots to look forward to.”
Komatsu’s latest compact loaders offerings, their new 4-tonne SK40-8EO skid steer loader and new CK50-8EO 5-tonne tracked loader –recently ‘prototyped’ at bauma 2025 – are now available in the Irish market.
Described by distributor, McHale Plant Sales, as the ‘biggest compact skid steer and tracked loaders Komatsu has ever offered’, both units are powered

by EU Stage V compliant 53.7kW low emissions, low maintenance engines with smart features both delivering what Komatsu notes is ‘one of the highest operating capacities in their category, merged with superior lifting, breakout, and traction force.’
Other key points, according to the distributor, are their ‘outstanding stability, manoeuvrability, driver comfort and weight distribution in all conditions.’
Engineered for applications in which skid-steer units are a preferred choice, their numerous other ‘plus-points’ include a new cab layout with pull-up sliding door for comfort and non-stop working in all conditions. New operator comfort functions include an air-suspended seat, pressurised cab, and easiness of operation, helped by a slow speed system, cruise control,
adaptive steering, return to dig, and other drive modes.
Completing what McHale Plant Sales looks-upon as ‘two worthy additions to the Komatsu portfolio’ are their redesigned hydraulics, reduced maintenance cost, rear-view camera with ‘human’ detection system, radio, LED lights and an optional front hydraulic quick coupler.

“ WE TREAT EACH ASSET AS IF IT WERE OUR OWN AND PRIDE OURSELVES ON OUR HIGH LEVEL CUSTOMER SERVICE. ”
[ Ricky Wilson, Director/Auctioneer ]
What began in 1936 as a single auction site in Northern Ireland has evolved into one of the most extensive and sophisticated auction networks in the UK and Ireland. Today, Wilsons Auctions operates from nineteen locations, including ten major auction centres in Belfast, Portadown, Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle, Newport, Oxford, Queensferry, Maidstone and Telford.
Through decades of strategic investment, acquisition and innovation, Wilsons Auctions has developed unmatched auctioneering and remarketing expertise, becoming the only auction company to provide full operational coverage across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Family values remain central to the business ethos. Known for its proactive, can-do approach, Wilsons Auctions places personal service at the heart of every transaction, ensuring buyers and sellers benefit from a professional, transparent and efficient auction experience, supporting an annual hammer total in excess of £620 million.
As Wilsons Auctions marks 90 years of auction excellence, the past twelve months stand out as one of the most significant periods in the company’s history. 2025 was a transformational year, fundamentally redefining the business through bold innovation, major investment and a renewed focus on delivering measurable value for both buyers and sellers.
Managing over 3,200 auctions annually, the Group delivers more than 450 dedicated plant and commercial vehicle auctions each year, handling a broad range of assets including construction equipment, quarrying machinery, agricultural plant, engineering assets, HGVs, LCVs and major offsite industrial auctions.
This specialist capability was clearly demonstrated in 2025 through high profile plant and machinery case studies, including the Kilsaran International Auction, Ashleigh Contracts Retirement Auction, Jans Liquidation Series, just to name a few.
Each instruction is supported by a flexible auction delivery model, with plant and machinery auctions tailored to suit individual requirements. Sales are delivered through a combination of physical auctions, live online bidding, timed online formats and offsite auctions, ensuring maximum market exposure while accommodating complex asset locations and operational demands.
Under the guidance of the Wilson family, continued investment throughout 2025 has further strengthened plant and machinery operations. Enhancements to auction platforms, facilities and operational processes ensure the business continues to meet the evolving
needs of the plant, machinery, engineering, agricultural and construction sectors, reinforcing Wilsons Auctions’ position as a trusted partner for major asset disposals across the UK and Ireland.
When transacting with Wilsons Auctions, both buyers and sellers benefit from a fully impartial and transparent auction environment. Unlike many competitors, the company does not purchase client

assets for resale, ensuring auctioneers remain solely focused on achieving true market value through open and competitive bidding.
For more information about Wilsons Auctions, visit our website at www.wilsonsauctions.com, and follow on Facebook @wilsonsauctionsltd or go to @wilsonsauctions on LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok.
This independence creates confidence on both sides. Sellers benefit from unrestricted buyer access and genuine market demand, while buyers gain fair and transparent access to assets without internal purchasing pressures influencing outcomes. The result is a level playing field that delivers clarity, consistency and confidence at every auction. wilsonsauctions.com
The UK used equipment market has opened 2026 with clear confidence, following a record-breaking fourday sale at Euro Auctions’ Leeds site from 28th – 31st January.
The auction achieved a hammer total of £61.2 million, the largest result in the site’s history, signalling a notable uplift in values, engagement and overall market sentiment. Across the wider Euro Auctions Group, January sales reached £66 million, including performance from its Canada Auctions operations.
What stood out most was the depth and balance of participation. A total of 691 vendors consigned equipment, with 12% first-time sellers, indicating growing confidence beyond the traditional vendor base. Consignments were evenly spread across construction, agriculture and surplus assets, pointing to planned fleet rotation rather than distressed selling.
Buyer activity reinforced this positive picture. 9,100 bidders registered, with
73% returning buyers and 12% first-time participants. More than 2,000 buyers successfully purchased equipment. Online bidding accounted for 69% of the hammer total, underlining growing confidence in remote purchasing of higher-value assets and widening the geographic buyer reach.
Demand was broad-based. Agricultural machinery performed strongly, particularly quality used tractors. Construction equipment saw competitive bidding across all excavator sizes, from minis to 20-tonne-plus machines.
The surplus sector also traded steadily, reflecting ongoing fleet optimisation.
Live attendance added further momentum, with over 1,100 visitors per day on site, creating a competitive atmosphere alongside strong online participation.
While the UK and Republic of Ireland dominated buying, mainland Europe was well represented, with notable activity from Poland, Cyprus and Spain, alongside interest from the Middle East and Africa.

Chris Osborne, Territory Manager at Euro Auctions, believes market timing played a key role.
“2025 was a year of hesitation, with many operators holding onto equipment following the post-COVID price surge,” he said. “By late 2025, values had softened to a point where renewal made sense. Equipment that didn’t sell last year is now coming forward, creating depth of stock and strong buyer interest.”
Osborne estimates prices at the January sale were 10 – 20% stronger than levels seen through much of 2025.
His advice to sellers is direct: “Engage early and get into the next Leeds sale — prices may well surprise you on the upside.”
Euro Auctions next Leeds Sale will be 11th – 14th March 2026.

BPI has partnered with NMT International Shipping UK Ltd. to strengthen its services for international buyers, while supporting the continued growth of its plant and machinery sales.
As BPI continues to expand its machinery offering and grow as a business, it continues to actively seek practical ways to enhance its service and support customers throughout the buying journey.
The partnership simplifies the purchasing and export process for international buyers acquiring machinery, plant and vehicles
from the UK. Overseas buyers can easily access NMT’s Roll-on / Roll-off (RoRo) shipping service for assets purchased through BPI.
NMT will manage the export requirements and onward transport, providing a clear, end-to-end route from purchase to delivery.
Machinery and transport equipment are a significant part of the UK’s goods exports.
According to the UK Parliament House of Commons, machinery and transport equipment accounted for 37% of UK goods exports to the European Union
in 2024, making it the largest single category of goods exported to that market in that year.
Kevin Gardner, Commercial Manager at BPI, said: “As we continue to grow as a business, it’s important that we also enhance services that support our UK customers, and those buying from overseas. Machinery and transport equipment represent a substantial share of UK exports, and this partnership directly supports that sector.
“By working with NMT, we can offer a practical shipping solution that helps international buyers move equipment
purchased through BPI into global markets more efficiently.”
Craig Jennings, UK Sales Manager at NMT said “We are looking forward to seeing what this partnership could do for many people out there wanting to move their machinery and equipment around the world.
“With 32 offices worldwide and a trusted network spanning 50+ countries, our team provides customised import and export services for a wide range of cargo, including cars, vans, trucks, machinery, and oversized static goods. We’re here to make logistics simple.”

Ritchie Bros., an RB Global company, is starting 2026 from a strong position across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), alongside a series of developments designed to give equipment owners greater flexibility, more selling options and improved access to global demand. This year, it’s time to Get More with Ritchie Bros. Following a solid close to 2025, the company enters the year with a more frequent auction calendar across the region and the continued success of off-site auctions. Together, these developments reflect how the company is adapting its marketplace to remain closely aligned with customer needs at the start of 2026.
Across EMEA in Q4 2025, Ritchie Bros. sold tens of thousands of industrial lots, representing more than 20% increase year-on-year and up 15.5% compared with 2024. Activity remained strong across construction, agriculture and transport assets, highlighting both the depth of buyer demand and the scale of Ritchie Bros.’ international marketplace. In construction, demand continued to be led by excavators and material-handling equipment, supported by broad cross-border buyer participation. Agricultural auctions saw particularly strong interest in tractors, with bidder numbers increasing by close to 30% yearon-year, while transport assets, including light vehicles and truck tractors, continued to attract consistent professional buyer
demand. Overall buyer participation remained highly international, with Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the UK and the UAE among the most active bidding countries.
Building on this performance, Ritchie Bros. has reshaped its auction calendar across EMEA to remain in market more consistently throughout the year. Where customers previously saw around four auctions per region annually, they will now see five-to-six auctions per region, with more buying and selling opportunities spread more evenly across each quarter. In the UK specifically, the calendar is even more active, with nine auctions currently planned, potentially rising to up to eleven.
This approach shortens the time between sales, allowing sellers to respond more quickly to fleet changes, while giving buyers more regular access to equipment and clearer visibility of upcoming inventory.
“Demand is no longer concentrated around a small number of annual auctions,” said Ghislaine Duijmelings, General Manager for Ritchie Bros. International.
“A more frequent calendar reflects how our customers operate today. It creates more timely and effective exit options for sellers, while buyers benefit from a steadier flow of equipment and better forward visibility. It keeps the marketplace active and responsive throughout the year.”
Off-site auctions continue to be an established solution for large fleet owners looking to sell equipment directly from their own yards while benefiting from Ritchie Bros.’ international buyer reach.
In 2025, Ritchie Bros. delivered five off-site auctions across the UK and France, selling hundreds of lots in total. Buyer participation demonstrated a strong mix of regional and international demand, with 79% regional buyers in France and 52% international buyers in the UK, reflecting the combined strength of local inventory and global reach. A recent example is the Plantforce off-site auction in the UK earlier this year, highlighting how single-consignor auctions can combine operational simplicity for sellers with strong buyer engagement
“We needed something fast and straightforward. We didn’t want to spend months answering requests or managing individual negotiations. Ritchie Bros. made it all simple.” – Mathieu & Laurianne Charpentier, Owner of an agricultural company in Brittany, France.

Securing finance for equipment can often feel slow, restrictive, and unclear. Traditional lenders usually focus on set products, fixed rules, and long processes that don’t match the realities of running a business.
At Enduro Finance, we do things differently.

• Deliver added value that builds customer loyalty

We’ve worked alongside businesses in construction, transport, and agriculture, and built strong networks that help us deliver funding quickly, with integrity always at the core of our work. We believe finance should support progress, not get in the way of it.
At Enduro Finance, we’ve always believed that the
strength of our business lies in the people behind it. Although we only began trading in early 2025, our ambition has always been clear: to build a finance brokerage that delivers meaningful solutions with integrity, expertise, and a commitment to long-term relationships.

Her deep understanding of the Irish market, combined with her ability to forge lasting relationships, makes her an invaluable addition to our team and the businesses we support.

What makes us different is how we work with people. We’re not a call centre or an automated platform. We’re finance professionals who listen, understand, and provide tailored support. That personal approach is what helps us deliver consistent value to both buyers and suppliers.
In Ireland, Roberta works directly with suppliers and business owners to make sure finance is available when and where it’s needed, helping to make finance easier and more accessible. Talk to us today about financing your next machine.

Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), a company has been fined in connection with refurbishment works. It pled guilty to a single health and safety offence.
The HSENI investigation found that the firm, as the principal contractor, failed to adequately plan, manage, and monitor the works relating to health and safety during the refurbishment works. In particular, the company failed to adequately identify and ensure the safe removal of licensed asbestos material.
The Fraud & Departmental Section of the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland worked closely with HSENI to build a robust prosecution case.
HSENI Construction Inspector, Caoimhe O’Neill, said: “Principal contractors have a duty to plan, manage and monitor the construction phase and co-ordinate matters relating to health and safety to ensure that, so far as reasonably practicable, construction work is carried out without risk to health or safety.
“When using subcontractors, principal contractors need to engage with competent
contractors for the work task. Principal contractors have a responsibility to ensure that subcontractors have developed a suitable and sufficient risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) and that they are managing and monitoring subcontractors throughout the construction phase.”
The company was fined £500 for breaching Regulation 13(1) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2016. For more information on the legal duties of principal contractors and the requirements of working with asbestos containing materials, visit www.hseni.gov.uk. HSENI is running a Workplace Health Campaign to highlight the dangers of health hazards in the workplace. Further information on this can also be found on the website.
Following an investigation by the HSENI, a company has been fined in connection with refurbishment works in November 2023. At Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court, the company pled guilty to a single health and safety offence.
The HSENI investigation found that the company, in the absence of being a licensed asbestos contractor, removed licensed asbestos as part of the building’s refurbishment works.
An asbestos refurbishment survey, which was prepared prior to commencement of the works, had identified licensable asbestos material
in the rear extension which was to be demolished.
An asbestos refurbishment survey aims to provide accurate information on the location, quantity and condition of asbestos containing materials within a building prior to refurbishment work. It is a legal requirement for the asbestos to be removed, as far as is reasonably practicable, before further works can start. The investigation revealed that the company had both sight and knowledge of the asbestos refurbishment survey prior to the commencement of works.
The company proceeded with the asbestos removal work in November 2023.The
removal of licensed asbestos should only be undertaken by those who are licensed and with the appropriate safety controls in place.
Prosecutors in the PPS’ Fraud & Departmental Section worked closely with the HSENI to build a robust prosecution case.
HSENI Construction Inspector, Caoimhe O’Neill, said: “Asbestos exposure remains a significant cause of work-related deaths in Northern Ireland. Most higher risk asbestos removal work must only be done by a licensed contractor because of the hazardous nature these higher risk materials pose to human health if removed without appropriate controls.
The HSENI has successfully led a prosecution against a construction company following repeated breaches of health and safety legislation.
At Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court, the company was fined a total of £1,000 after pleading guilty to multiple offences which placed those working on the site at risk. These offences included the
contravention of multiple enforcement notices served during construction work between May-and-August 2022.
The HSENI investigation arose following a series of inspections carried out at the housing development. During an initial inspection in May 2022, serious risks to the health and safety of workers were identified. The HSENI observed unsafe
“Without suitable controls in place, the removal of licensed asbestos product may result in harmful asbestos fibres being released creating a significant risk to workers’ health. Employers have a legal duty to manage any work involving asbestos, including that licensed asbestos removal work is undertaken by an approved contractor.”
The HSENI is the enforcing body responsible for granting asbestos licenses. An up-todate register of contractors who can undertake the removal of licensable asbestos materials can be found on the HSENI website.
scaffolding being used on two partially built houses and as a result issued a prohibition notice, suspending all work from height until such times as the scaffolding was made safe. Despite the enforcement action, further visits revealed ongoing work from the same unsafe scaffolding structures and the absence of suitable edge protection, including missing guard rails, which placed those working on the scaffolding at a serious risk of a fall from height.
The HSENI also issued improvement notices which required the company, as the Principal Contractor, to provide adequate welfare facilities, prepare a construction phase health and safety plan, and to appoint competent site supervision. The company failed to comply with these notices within the timeframes directed by HSENI.
Fit for purpose quality / In stock for immediate despatch / On-time delivery anywhere in Ireland.
In today’s fast paced world there’s never been a greater emphasis on ‘service’. But what is service? Or more specifically, what does ‘service’ mean to a busy commercial workshop where the impossible appears to have become the normal.
SWS have been practising, and refining, this for 50 years and more. They understand that downtime for a truck equals loss of earnings for your customer. They fully appreciate that being told that what you need is still over the water in the UK is not what you want to hear.

They know that your time is at a premium, and placing an order, whether online or by phone, needs to be totally stress free; as easy as ABC.
At SWS, this is not just words on a page. It’s a fact, the result of a lot of hard yards. Products have to be ‘fit for purpose’ to be included in the range. Stocks
must be maintained at healthy levels to ensure your needs can be met. The ordering process needs to run smoothly. Deliveries have to be on time; every time. There’s a lot happening at SWS this year. During March, a comprehensive catalogue for the complete consumables range will be launched. This will be followed later in the year with a similar one for equipment. With a 72m² stand taken at RTX NI there will be plenty to engage the visitors’ interest. And we’re only at the start of the year. But, and this is the essential but, none of this must be allowed to detract from what we started with - service. Of all the essentials - it’s the most important.

In an era where efficiency, reliability and versatility are defining success across the construction and groundsmaintenance sectors, Laird Grass Machinery Ltd, a trusted name in the grounds maintenance industry in Northern Ireland since 1998, has recently signalled its intent to grow by expanding their range of Kubota products to include Construction Lite alongside its existing groundcare and tractor lines.
For decades, Laird Grass Machinery has built a strong reputation among landscapers,
golf clubs, and public authorities for quality products and dependable support. Their position as an authorised Kubota dealer has already made them a go-to destination for professionals across Ulster.
The decision to broaden their offering to include Kubota’s Construction Lite range reflects not only the evolving needs of their customer base, but also a keen business sense that recognises the growing overlap between agricultural, groundcare and light construction
sectors. Modern estates, sports facilities, and agricultural operations increasingly demand machines capable of handling earthmoving, material handling and site development – tasks once considered outside the traditional scope of landscaping or groundcare equipment dealers.
Kubota itself has been steadily increasing its footprint in the construction market, with dealers

seeing demand rise for compact telehandlers and other robust machines tailored to small-to-medium site work. Partnering with a global manufacturer known for reliability, durability and engineering quality gives Laird Grass Machinery’s customers access to equipment that stands up to tough conditions while offering the aftercare and parts support essential for success. The move is about more than just selling machines; it’s about building long-term partnerships. Customers who have relied on Laird Grass for tractors and mowers now have the opportunity to simplify procurement, and trust a familiar team when investing in telehandlers, loaders or site support vehicles.
As the machinery market continues to evolve, local dealers like Laird Grass Machinery that embrace broader product portfolios are likely to lead the charge – ensuring that farmers, landscape professionals and small contractors alike have access to the tools they need to grow. This kind of strategic expansion underscores not only the company’s confidence in Kubota’s Construction Lite range but also its commitment to serving the changing needs of its community well into the future.
Laird Grass Machinery has built an excellent reputation as a reliable, professional

machinery dealer. Known for supplying highquality equipment the company combines strong product knowledge with outstanding after-sales support. With years of industry experience and a commitment to quality and service, Laird Grass Machinery is widely regarded as a trusted machinery supplier.

Contributing to BBC Northern Ireland’s
The View programme, Indaver, the European waste management specialists behind plans to develop a modern waste management solution to meet the needs of six Northern Ireland councils making up the arc21 partnership, has warned that Northern Ireland is facing a looming waste crisis unless it delivers the necessary infrastructure to manage its own waste.
For some time now Indaver has been highlighting to stakeholders and decisionmakers the precarious nature of Northern Ireland’s waste sector and stressing the need for the project to proceed. Most recently they published a report called ‘Tipping Point’, which they issued to all Assembly members and local councillors in the arc21 councils last year. This report emphasised that Northern Ireland risks adding a waste infrastructure crisis to its existing wastewater crisis, which is already damaging Northern Ireland’s economic aspirations and environmental reputation.
Expressing Concerns
Speaking about their concerns shared with the BBC, Colin O’Hanlon, Indaver, said:
“There is chronic under-capacity in the Northern Ireland waste management sector for our black bag waste, and we are lagging significantly behind the rest of the UK and Europe in adopting the modern infrastructure necessary to address this growing challenge. Continued inaction means we are nearing a tipping point, where we are increasingly vulnerable and risk running into a waste crisis.
“For many years through various strategies and plans, energy recovery of waste has been viewed as a more environmentally friendly solution than landfill. While the success in achieving higher energy recovery rates from

waste has been celebrated here, what has been ignored, is that this has largely been happening in Scandinavia, where they have realised the value of NI waste, through energy recovery for power and heat. Waste exports were only ever seen as an interim solution, until Northern Ireland developed its own modern and robust infrastructure. But the long-term solution needs to be progressed.
“Waste exporting is a notoriously complex process involving many movements of waste on roads and ships and which requires port infrastructure and storage. The resultant carbon footprint only adds to the negative environmental landscape. The proximity principle of good waste management means that waste should be dealt with as close to the source as possible. It is our view that the issues being experienced in Warrenpoint for
some time now, are a direct symptom of the risks associated with this process and our wider reliance on waste export markets.
“This is not only an unsustainable approach which comes with economic, environmental and reputational risks, but the markets for this waste are increasingly unreliable and volatile. They can be subject to the vagaries of European weather and resulting market demand and in some cases RDF imports are now being taxed by the receiving countries. The UK Committee on Climate Change recommended that waste exports be phased out all altogether.”
In line with Northern Ireland government policy, Indaver believes that like most councils in the rest of the UK, implementing a local solution would deliver self-reliance, economies of scale and enable Northern Ireland to increase recycling levels and ensure we recover energy from Northern Ireland waste locally, benefiting both the environment and the economy.
Colin O’Hanlon added: “Unlike the current wastewater crisis, there is a ready-made solution waiting to be implemented. That solution is the £250 million arc21 residual waste project, which presents an opportunity to showcase how privatesector investment can drive public benefit, delivering long-term value and leaving a valuable asset in public ownership.
“The project simply requires a Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Ministerial signature in the near future to deliver a robust and evidencebased planning decision. This will allow it to progress to the next stage of procurement where a business case evaluation will trigger a democratic decision by the arc21 councils to decide if it progresses.”

Encom has been recognised at the 2026 Eastside Awards, taking home Sustainable Business of the Year, alongside a personal win for Director Anna Patterson, who was named Young Person of the Year 2026.
The awards recognise Encom’s continued growth across the commercial and industrial energy sector, delivering renewable energy solutions that are practical, cost-focused and designed around real operational demands.
For a business operating in a sector where margins, uptime and reliability matter, the recognition reflects the company’s emphasis on engineering-led design and long-term performance, rather than headline claims.
Sustainable Business of the Year highlights Encom’s work supporting businesses across Northern Ireland and further afield to reduce energy costs, while future proofing operations against grid volatility.
The company specialises in large-scale solar PV, battery storage and integrated energy systems for manufacturing, logistics, agri food and commercial sites, with projects designed to support high load environments and complex operating schedules.
Director Anna Patterson’s Young Person of the Year Award reflects both leadership and delivery. She has played a central role

in driving Encom’s commercial strategy, building partnerships across the construction and engineering sector and positioning the business as a trusted delivery partner for developers and operators alike. The award
also recognises a commitment to developing a skilled local team and investing in long-term capability rather than short-term growth.
Speaking following the awards, Anna said the recognition was a reflection of the wider team and the businesses Encom works alongside. “We work in an industry where results matter. Clients want systems that perform, savings that stack up and delivery partners who understand live sites. These awards are a boost, but more importantly they reinforce that our approach is working.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Encom has a strong pipeline of large commercial and industrial projects, including multi-site rollouts and high capacity installations where energy resilience is critical. The company is continuing to invest in design capability, project management and aftercare, ensuring systems perform long after installation. With increasing pressure on energy costs and sustainability targets across the construction and engineering sectors, Encom sees growing demand for solutions that balance commercial reality with environmental responsibility. Their focus for the year ahead remains clear. Deliver well engineered systems, support clients through every stage of the project and keep pushing standards higher across the industry.

“THEY ARE GREAT MACHINES TO OPERATE – POWERFUL, SMOOTH AND COMFORTABLE.”
GEORGE NICHOLSON, OPERATOR
Let Liebherr’s dynamic duo handle it.

When you’re recycling more than 200,000 tonnes of timber a year it’s crucial that your frontline machines are up to the job. The Purvis Group’s telescopic handlers weren’t: it was time to give Liebherr a call.
The Fife multi-faceted group had been running a pair of waste spec handlers at its biomass facility but it was becoming increasingly evident they just couldn’t cope. Site manager Wayne Campbell takes up the story: “Because both machines were extremely important to the business, they needed to be reliable. We could cope with one machine being out of service for a very short time but when it became a regular occurrence on both, we knew we needed to look elsewhere for a solution.”
The answer was found at Liebherr in the form of two telescopic handlers which were acquired following a successful demonstration exercise and put into operation at Purvis’s recycling park close to its headquarters in Lochgelly. There, virgin timber and material sourced from the company’s recycling operations are processed into several grades to supply biomass to power stations. The machines’ duties include handling the huge volumes of material being generated by the timber processing operations and loading up the continuous stream of walking floor trailers that take the material off site.
Liebherr’s telehandler range encompasses models with lift capacities from 3.3 tonnes to 6 tonnes and with maximum lift heights to 10m. The most popular models in the UK are the heavy-duty, waste specification T 55-7s and T 60-9s, both armed with upgrades to equip them for work in the tough applications found in the waste industry.
Purvis initially had their eye on the smaller T 55-7s and took it on demo

but, as Managing Director Craig Purvis explained, it was agreed that better load-over height of the larger machine would be more beneficial. He added: “Liebherr organised a second demo, this time with the larger machine which has worked out perfectly and handles our 4m3 and 5m3 buckets with ease.”
“The large, general-purpose buckets mounted on hydraulic quick couplers has allowed the Liebherr’s to cut the loading time for each truck to a minimum and with the increased height of the 9m boom, the machines can stay well away from the trucks on each pass.”
In the case of the T 60-9s, the Camso semisolid, puncture-proof tyres provide solid grip when the concrete surface becomes wet and greasy. The machine rides on heavy-duty Spicer axles with a range of steering options and its 3.15m wheelbase offers rock-solid stability. The two-piece boom is mounted low in the chassis to give the operator a wider field of visibility. Operator duties are split between George Nicholson and Ross Black who have given the handlers the thumbs-up. Nicholson said: “They are great machines to operate – powerful, smooth and very comfortable with unbelievable visibility. On the previous machines you were forever rocking backwards and forwards in the seat to see the bucket but it’s so much more relaxing in these new machines thanks to the huge windscreens. There’s plenty of power too. Even though we are only moving woodchip, it compresses and needs a bit of a shove to get it into the bucket. The Liebherrs do it easily.”
Founded in 1980 as a plant hire operation, the Purvis Group has expanded into a single-source business for the construction, recycling and haulage sector with interests in civil engineering, demolition, building supplies, screening and crushing, mechanical and electrical services and site accommodation.
Founder and Chairman Bob Purvis was awarded an OBE in the 2025 King’s New Year’s Honours for services and commitment to the community.

As UK and Irish contractors, plant hire companies, and agricultural operators continue to seek smarter, more versatile machinery solutions, Merlo America is preparing to showcase a bold new vision on one of the world’s largest industry stages: CONEXPO 2026 in Las Vegas.
For those travelling from the UK to the show, Merlo’s presence at Festival Grounds, Stand F22041, offers a firsthand look at innovation that is already resonating strongly across Europe. Shaun Groom, General Manager of Merlo UK and Ireland, will be on-site during the event to support visitors and share insights into how Merlo technology aligns with the needs of operators and fleet owners.
Although European operators have long recognised the advantages of Merlo’s multi application approach, that mindset is only now beginning to take hold in the United States. “Merlo machines prove that a telehandler can be far more than a single-purpose tool – in Europe, versatility is now the expectation, not the exception,” said Shaun Groom.
In the US, telehandlers have traditionally been viewed as reliable but narrowly focused machines. Merlo’s message at CONEXPO is clear: that era is over. With a stand built around the theme “See Where You Can Go with Merlo,”
the company is signalling a decisive shift away from single task thinking.
“A Merlo telehandler is not simply a lift and place machine,” said Cole Renken, General Manager of Merlo America. “It is a multi application platform that allows businesses to consolidate equipment, reduce capital expense, and do work they simply couldn’t do before. CONEXPO 2026 is the moment where we show the industry how transformative that shift can be.”
This multi application philosophy is second nature to UK and Irish operators, who have long relied on Merlo’s advanced technology across construction, agriculture, and industrial sectors.
At CONEXPO, visitors will finally see that same capability brought to life on a large stage – demonstrating just how far a truly versatile telehandler can take them.
“We want people to walk away with a new understanding of what a telehandler can be,” said Jennifer Brigman, Vice President of Strategy and Operations at Merlo America.
“Choosing Merlo means unlocking greater efficiency and capability across every type of operation.”
When it comes to construction, Merlo America will spotlight machines engineered for the precision, stability, and multifunctional performance that today’s North American job sites demand including:
• ROTO 50.35SPLUSEE4CVT with the Space 11 work platform
• Panoramic 120.10HM paired with a new-to-the-US Pipe Handler
These platforms highlight Merlo’s expanding presence in utility, infrastructure, and heavy-duty applications that European customers will recognise.

Meanwhile, the agriculture and forestry sectors will experience the same versatility through Merlo’s MultiFarmer technology –already a proven favourite among UK and Irish agricultural customers – demonstrating how operators can load bales, pull trailers, operate shredding machines and manage daily tasks with a single machine, dramatically simplifying jobs that typically require multiple units.
Merlo’s attachment innovation will also be on full display, with twelve specialised attachments integrated into the machine’s intelligence and safety systems, each illustrating how quickly and confidently operators can transition between tasks.
Across a 14-machine line-up, Merlo America will deliver one of the most extensive and capability-rich displays in its CONEXPO history, an unmatched demonstration of multiapplication performance across industries.
Visitors can also look forward to a standout attraction: a high-energy simulator showdown featuring Irish-born professional racing driver James Roe. Attendees will have the chance to test their reflexes against a pro and find out: “Are you faster than a race car driver?”
Merlo partnered with INDY NXT driver James Roe in 2025, aligning the Merlo brand with his reputation for innovation, performance, precision, and reliability – values that mirror Merlo’s own commitment to engineering excellence. There will be two exclusive opportunities to meet James Roe on the Merlo America stand on, Tuesday, March 3: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM (includes a live Q&A) and Wednesday, March 4: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
If you’re travelling to Las Vegas, please visit merlo.com or scan the QR code and enter your details so Shaun Groom and

the wider Merlo team know to expect you. Representatives from Merlo Group in Italy, Merlo Australia & New Zealand, and Merlo America will also be in attendance.

Sleator Plant has become synonymous with excellence across Ireland’s construction equipment sector. Since its founding, the leading dealer has meticulously forged relationships with key OEM companies, ensuring the provision of a first-class range of construction equipment for the industry.
As well as being the sole Genie access equipment dealership in Ireland, delivering access platforms and lifting equipment, including material lifts, aerial work platforms and scissor lifts, Sleator Plant proudly stands as the Rokbak Trucks dealer for all of Ireland, supplying the world-renowned range of articulated trucks. As Mecalac Construction machinery stockists for Northern Ireland, the company also specialises in the Mecalac range of backhoe loaders, dumpers and site rollers and offers an efficient and professional service at all times.
Sleator Plant has also been a SANY dealer since 2019, the longest dealer within the UK/ Ireland network. SANY is the fourth largest manufacturer of machinery in the world and Sleator Plant is pleased to be able to supply the whole of Ireland with the quality range of excavators, ranging from 1 tonne to 80 tonne.
Sleator Plant’s strategic location encourages the company’s strong industry standing, promoting seamless connectivity to clients. Located just off the M2 motorway North of Belfast, Sleator Plant provides convenient access for Northern clients.
To extend the company’s reach, it has further launched a secondary depot beside Dublin Airport along the M50 which has been thriving since opening its doors.
At the root of the company’s success is the strength of the team whose collective effort and passion for service have been instrumental in building Sleator Plant’s reputation as a leading industry player. One of the key team members in question is Regional Sales Manager, Amanda McNally, whose customer-centric ethos and consistent results led to her being awarded Leading Salesperson for Telehandlers in UK & Ireland and Runner-up in Heavy Line Sales at the recent SANY UK & Ireland Dealer Conference. Amanda has been with the company for just over the year, and yet that relatively short tenure has been marked by rapid progress and meaningful achievements. Prior to taking up the Sleator Plant position, Amanda harnessed her sales skills in a similar sector. Shedding light, she said: “After finding out from Jonathan Campbell, Managing Director at Sleator Plant, that they needed a salesperson

in Southern Ireland in January last year, I came on-board to help drive the sales. Prior to that, I sold trucks so it’s a similar industry and some of the same customers. In my role, I particularly focus on the SANY brand which are great products priced well in the market.
“My approach is focussed on being honest, upfront, and preferring to underpromise and over-deliver. The SANY products will always sell it as the quality of the units speak for themselves.”
Taking place recently, the SANY UK & Ireland Dealer Conference was a remarkable event, emphasising the company’s ambitious plans for 2026. Among the highlights was Amanda’s aforementioned industry acknowledgement. “It was a great achievement to be recognised as I just keep my head down, believe in the SANY products and get on with it.”
A key contributor to Amanda’s SANY success is that her passion for the brand shines through, particularly the standard of innovation and forwardthinking which it is renowned for.
“I was out in the SANY headquarters in March last year and, despite having visited other OEMs before, I’ve never seen anything like the brand’s development. With regards to SANY’s R&D annually, they invest seven per cent of their annual turnover. There is no other OEM in the world who is doing that.”
The recent conference triumphs are also testament to the team around Amanda who echo her emphasis on “pride, honesty, integrity”.
“At Sleator Plant it’s about the strength of the brands and building partnerships. We also have an amazing after-sales team too which is important as if you don’t have the service to back up the machines, then you’ll never sell another. Our Branch Managers, John Dandy in Dublin and Aaron McCaul in Belfast, run the service teams very well.”
Moving forward with vision, Sleator Plant is committed to expanding its achievements and forging new paths to continued success, explained Amanda.
“At the 2026 SANY UK & Ireland Dealer Conference, our aim is to be the dealer that sells the highest number of units for both telehandlers and excavators. To do this, we will build on the great team around us, continue treating our customers right, and receive both repeat and new business. Our aim is to achieve a minimum 10 per cent-to-15 per cent of the market share in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland as a whole.”
As Managing Director of Sleator Plant, Jonathan Campbell is similarly excited about the continuation of the company’s partnership with SANY, commenting: “We are incredibly proud to partner with SANY in Ireland and have seen the quality of the machines improve year-on-year. We can confidently compete with the legacy brands in today’s market. In fact, the SANY machines consistently outperform these brands and this is not something we are saying, this is direct from our customer base and is borne out with repeat business.”

There is widespread knowledge about the risks of asbestos to construction workers, but did you know that silica is the next biggest health risk to construction workers?
• Silica is a naturally occurring mineral found in varying amounts in most rock, sand and clay, as well as products like bricks and concrete
• Silica dust is created during many common construction tasks, such as cutting, sanding or grinding of silicacontaining materials like concrete, mortar and sandstone (also known as respirable crystalline silica or RCS)
• Some of this fine dust is small enough to reach deep inside the lungs and causes serious harm to health

Your maximum permissible daily silica exposure is tiny when compared to a penny.
Anyone who breathes in RCS should know the damage it can do to the lungs and airways. The main RCS dust-related diseases affecting construction workers are:
• Lung cancer
• Silicosis
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Asthma
The effects of RCS exposure are often not immediately obvious. Unfortunately, by the time it is noticed the total damage done may already be serious and life-changing. It may mean permanent disability and early death.
• Employers have a legal duty of care to their employees under Article 4

of The Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978
• Employees also have legal duties at work under Article 8 of The Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978;
• In order to reduce worker exposure to dust, both employers and employees must comply with The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 (COSHH)
• COSHH assessment
• Involve and inform employees
• Choose control measures (RPE is final control measure)
• Maintain control measures
• Information, instruction and training – employees
• Monitoring (controls effective?)
• A COSHH assessment should be carried out before you start any work

• Use on-tool water suppression, dust extraction or exhaust ventilation to reduce the amount of dust to a minimum
• Never dry sweep. Consider using a vacuum with a HEPA filter or damping down the area
• Wear appropriate PPE and RPE (dust masks). You must be clean-shaven and be face fit tested for an FFP3 rated mask
• If there are reasons for having a beard (e.g. for religious reasons), alternative forms of RPE, that do not rely on a tight fit to the face, are available, such as air-fed respirators
For more information on the risks involved with silica dust exposure and how to protect yourself and others please visit the following web page: www.hseni.gov.uk/topic/silica-dust.

Bobcat has announced the launch of new ranges of auger and trencher attachments compatible with a wide selection of the company’s loader, mini excavator and telehandler models.

The new robust line of augers features five drive models and can be used with a comprehensive selection of auger bits designed for different ground conditions. Alongside this, the versatile and durable trencher range also comprises five new models offering a wide range of digging depths.
The new augers and trenchers join the Bobcat attachment line-up, one of the most extensive on the market. To take full advantage of this, all of Bobcat’s compact machines have been developed as tool carriers, which in combination with the wide selection of attachments, can be employed to tackle challenging applications within construction, landscaping, agriculture, demolition, recycling, material handling and many other industries.
The new generation of robust and reliable auger drives comprising the 11H, 28H, 28LH, 33H and 55LH models, is compatible with a wide range of Bobcat excavators, skid-steer and track loaders, small articulated loaders, compact wheel loaders and telehandlers. The new auger attachments allow users to dig holes with speed and plumb-line accuracy. Using heavy-duty hydraulics with flows across the five models covering the range from 30 to 200 l/min, the auger attachments can bite into soil in any condition with ease and efficiency. The new range of augers uses the existing Bobcat breaker fixing caps to cover the full range of Bobcat mini excavators without introducing any new fixing caps. Bobcat has also introduced new loader frames (Mini and Standard) for use with the new range of augers.
The new generation of Bobcat trenchers encompasses the LT90, LT90 HD, LT120, LT120
HD and LT150 HD models, built for reliability, durability and outstanding performance. For the first time, these trenchers are also available for Bobcat mini excavators. Spoil is efficiently removed and finely crumbled, making it easy to compact back into the trench for a stable foundation. The five new trencher models cover digging depths from 450-1500 mm, along with a selection of chains to match different job requirements. The trenchers use the existing Bobcat breaker fixing caps to ensure compatibility with Bobcat mini excavators. The Mini and Standard loader frames are the same as those for use with the new auger range.
Product features in the new augers include top mounted hose ports, where angled fittings route hydraulic hoses upwards from the hood, providing unobstructed operation and allowing the drives to fit easily down the hole. The integrated motor reduces the size and weight of the drive, as well as lowering the number of parts and potential leak points. The augers

also provide added digging depth, gaining an extra 30 cm plus of dig depth because the entire drive unit follows the bit into the hole. There are two LH auger drives in the range that come with an innovative LED alignment system integrated into the auger drive’s hood. It offers operators a clear, simultaneous view of both the drive and the digging hole. When the auger is perfectly aligned, its lights display a full green ring. If it is misaligned, a mix of green and red lights appears, with the following illuminated green side guiding the operator to re-centre the auger for a full green indication.
In the trenchers, product features include a heavy-duty crumbing system: a robust, spring-loaded crumber keeps constant contact with the trench floor, ensuring thorough spoil removal and a clean, finished trench without the need for extra passes. For added versatility, the crumber can be easily folded away when not required. The powerful planetary drive delivers exceptional torque and high-power output for tough digging conditions. This system enhances durability, extends service life and maximizes overall efficiency.
An adjustable skid foot features up to four preset digging depths: this provides flexibility to work at multiple depths using the same trencher model. Operators can quickly select the right setting to meet the specific requirements of each job. There is also side-shift capability for confined spaces: the trencher’s frame can be shifted to the side, making it easy to dig right up against foundations, kerbs and other permanent structures.
Develon has launched the new DX23E-7 electricpowered mini-excavator with an enclosed cab, the latest addition to the company’s rapidly expanding range of electric excavators.
As standard, the DX23E-7 offers the largest battery capacity of 32 kWh in its class and there is an additional version with an even higher battery capacity of 40 kWh. As well as the alternative 40 kWh battery pack, the DX23ZE-7 also offers the option of quick coupler piping for work with attachments.
The DX23E-7 has all of the electrical systems and components on the machine optimised for work in harsh environments. It offers a recharging speed that is fast enough for next-day use, even with slow charging set-ups.
The DX23E-7 is designed for all day working, with the standard 32 kWh capacity unit offering an indicative runtime, depending on the application of eight hours and an indicative charging time to 100% from 6-10 h under normal charging (3 kW/6 kW) and 1.5 h with fast charging (15 kW). For the 40 kWh unit, the working time should increase to 10 h depending on the application, with charging to 100% taking 7-12 h under normal charging and 2.5 h to 80% with fast charging (15 kW).
In addition, the new DX23E-7 combines low operational noise for a quiet and comfortable environment with zero emissions, together with the features and performance enhancements that are found on Develon‘s next-generation DX-7 Series family of mini-excavators.
The DX23E-7 offers better performance than the Develon diesel excavator (DX19-7) it is based upon, with a 5% higher

lifting capacity, together with other improvements such as better work/travel output and enhanced stability.
The development of the electric power system (EPS) in the DX23E-7 involved the removal of the Frame Cross plate from the DX19-7 and increased rear turning radius (+35 mm) to secure space for the battery pack installation. To distinguish it as an electric machine, the DX23E-7 also has a new colour scheme and graphic decal.
Because electric excavators do not have an engine, the number of periodic maintenance duties is significantly lower in the DX23ZE-7 compared to the DX19-7 diesel excavator. Only hydraulic-related maintenance at 1000-hour intervals is required.
“The DX23E-7 is a highperforming addition to the Develon range of electric machines,” said Stephane Dieu, Excavators Product Manager for Europe at Develon.
“It offers great advantages over the diesel counterpart due to less noise and no emissions,
as compact equipment, such as mini-excavators, has a higher tendency to work in cities and residential areas, where it has proximity to other workers and the public.”
Retractable tracks allow the new DX23ZE-7 electric excavator to pass through narrow passages and entrances/exits, making it ideal for working in confined spaces or indoor applications such as demolition and construction. Once the excavator reaches the work area, the operator can expand the tracks for better stability and lifting capacity. With its compact dimensions, the DX23E-7 is an excellent solution for construction and rental companies working in sensitive areas where low noise or night-time work is necessary.
Telematics is standard on the DX23E-7 mini-excavator. Operators and dealers can remotely monitor their machine’s health, location and productivity from an app or website. Telematics can help owners:
• Minimise equipment theft and allow for machine tracking
• Avoid unauthorised use of the machine
• See when maintenance is due
• Customise alerts to a customer’s schedule
• Track oil pressure, operating temperature and more
• Use data to train operators for maximum productivity
