Chief Rogers

Eliani Martinez Mekhi Smith
I’m Jassad Rogers, everyone calls me Chief I just graduated from Weston High School through their METCO program I’m starting my first semester at Centre College in the fall I’ve been in 3Point for too many years to count and I love it here
What did you like most about 3Point when you participated?
There is never a dull moment at 3Point As a camper I enjoyed getting to make new friends and always having various activities to do , whether it was rock climbing, swimming, golf, or any other sport they had us play
What brought you back as a staff member?
I came back because at 3Point I’m treated with respect Oftentimes, as a young adult you are treated as “lesser” because you aren’t quite a kid but not quite viewed as an adult either I also enjoy getting to work with kids to create those same lifelong memories of summer camp as I did
Future plans, what are you looking forward to?
This fall, I’m heading to Centre college in Danville, Kentucky. I received a full tuition scholarship with The Posse Foundation My goal is to become a physical therapist so I’ll be majoring in health studies and heading to PT (Physical Therapy) school I also look forward to studying abroad during my time at school.
I'm Eliani Martinez, a 17-year-old senior majoring in dance at Boston Arts Academy I'm Dominican and love dancing styles like ballet, pointe, and hip-hop I also run a small business called External Roses, where I make and sell ribbon roses that never die
What did you like most about 3Point when you participated?
What I liked most about being in 3Point as a camper is that 3Point helps create a closer and tighter community in my school 3Point created a safe space for students to come together and for students to step out of their comfort zone 3Point helped me open up with other students and helped me step out of my comfort zone
What brought you back as a staff member?
Remembering what 3Point for me is why I come back. I want to offer a safe space for other students where they don't feel judged Having an opportunity to work with teachers who helped me grow as a student feels very inspiring, and it makes me want to do the same for younger students
Future plans, what are you looking forward to?
Currently, I'm going into my senior year, and I'm starting my college process I'm looking to stay in Massachusetts and I'm interested in the medical field. I'm also looking forward to my final dance shows at Boston Arts Academy
I'm Mekhi Smith from Boston I’ve loved basketball my whole life and have made many friends here I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, traveling to Jamaica to see my family, and helping kids through sports I'm just a guy from the inner city who cares about making a difference.

3POINT’S 2025 SHOWCASE
Olivia Olson
Dever ASP and Roosevelt ASP
We had a great year of afterschool at Dever and Roosevelt! At the Dever, we had a core group of students who showed up consistently to our program. When enrollment dipped after the winter break it was thanks to these students that we got our numbers back up as they recruited friends, classmates, and siblings to join us At Roosevelt we had participants from 5th grade to 8th grade Despite the range of ages, students included one another, pushed each other to be better in the classroom and on the court, and forged friendships across grade levels Whether working to grow the 3Point community outside of program hours or working together during 3Point after-school, both schools displayed beautiful examples of teamwork.
A huge shoutout to all our 3Point students for a great year! Across the board students made huge strides in their basketball skills and knowledge We can't wait to be back next fall!

Miles Graham
New Mission ISP (Movement block) and Greenwood
My name is Miles Graham, and I serve as the Lead Academic Instructor for 3 Point. Over the past year, I’ve worked across multiple sites, including RBA and New Mission, and I’ve also supported our after‐school programs at the Dever, Roosevelt, Greenwood, and Henderson schools In addition, I’ve been involved with our Sunday Basketball League, supporting middle school students through skill fundamentals and teamwork During the school day, I’ve focused on our in‐school curriculum from Monday through Thursday, teaching a College and Career Readiness course that empowers students to understand themselves, explore careers, and get a head start on planning for their future.
One of the highlights of this year has been launching a new initiative every Friday at New Mission trips to Ross Park for structured free play This gives seventh and eighth graders a chance to choose activities they enjoy, while also focusing on team‐building exercises that get both students and staff engaged and active together
In our after‐school programming, we worked on two meaningful projects for our fall and spring showcases In the fall, students explored the theme of justice, and in the spring, we focused on community learning about our neighborhoods and discussing ways to make them better. After‐school sessions gave students a balance of one hour of academic support and one hour of basketball, allowing them to build their skills and character every day Seeing their growth both on and off the court has been one of the best parts of this role for me
I also lead the movement block every Friday at New Mission, a program I really believe in because students deserve space to move, play, and stay active throughout the day
I’m grateful for the opportunity to impact young people across Boston Public Schools and to help build a space where learning, growth, and teamwork can flourish.
BASKETBALL SUMMER CURRICULUM
For the Summer of 2025 we have put together a challenging yet engaging curriculum featuring an emphasis on small-sided games that will dramatically increase the opportunities on the court for our students to become better basketball players at their own pace We are also excited to introduce two new features of the curriculum: In Week 3 students at our SLA will take on various leadership roles in an effort to work together to lead basketball activities for an entire afternoon throughout the week and during the last week our staff will introduce Championship Week where students will get to choose a basketball activity (basketball trivia included!) and compete against one another to be crowned champion and receive an award at Field Day!

HIGHLIGHTING NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH HENDERSON
With the support of their school’s administration team we were delighted to reintroduce the 3Point After-School Program (ASP) to students at the Henderson Upper School in Dorchester this past Spring Led by Miles Graham and Kyle Jimenez-Fox with additional support for a 10th grade student volunteer, the after school program at the Henderson was a highly attended and successful experience for all students as they took part in academic exercises designed to enhance their confidence, communication and connection to their community On the basketball court students fully embraced the challenge of becoming a better basketball player individually while becoming a better leader and teammate to the entire group The last day of the program in May featured a highly competitive scrimmage with our instructors included!
3Point Showcase
Junior Ventura
RBA ISP and ASP and New Mission ASP
My name is Junior Ventura and as a lead instructor at 3Point I am responsible for teaching our career and college readiness curriculum during our in school programming at Ruth Batson Academy (RBA) In addition to this daily responsibility, I coached our after school programs for RBA and New Mission During the school year, I was fortunate enough to contribute to our students' growth not only on the basketball court but also in the classroom In the classroom, one of the highlights of the year were students’ Culture Cards This assignment consists of information about students’ background, where they come from, and how their background and culture have shaped them into the person they are today Our students had the freedom to be as creative as possible by crafting a PowerPoint presentation with various unique technological and visual features

One student who excelled with this assignment was a 7th grader at RBA named Alani Santos She made deep connections and loved the idea of creating an assignment all about herself and her ethnic background I was proud of the work that she and all our students did, and enjoyed getting to learn more about each individual and where they came from. You can tell that our students fully bought into the work we did in the classroom because they put their own unique spin on it and make it their own.

3POINT 2025 SPRING & SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMIES
This Spring, 3Point served over 200 students during our in-school Career and College Readiness programming and our Project-Based Learning (PBL) after-school programming We collaborated with six Boston Public Schools (BPS): New Mission High School, Ruth Batson Academy, Paul A Dever School, Franklin D Roosevelt School, Sarah Greenwood School, and William W. Henderson School. The theme of our PBL curriculum this season was that of community; The goal was for students to have a better understanding of the community they live in and the role they play within their community For the final project, students identified a need within their community and proposed a solution to remedy this need They shared their final projects with their families, peers, and our community partners at our Bi-Annual Showcase, which was held at the William J Devine Golf Course and Clubhouse at Franklin Park It was so inspiring to see students share their visions and bring them to life!

This Summer, 3Point will be hosting two Summer Learning Academies (SLA) for students in grades 5-8 at the University of Massachusetts Boston in Dorchester, MA, and the Fessenden School in West Newton, MA
Both SLA’s will include a morning and afternoon academic curriculum that incorporates PBL and social-emotional learning (SEL) In the mornings, students will identify, research, and choose a college major (highlighted from UMass Boston) that they would like to pursue in post-secondary education Throughout the academic curriculum, our students will further develop/enhance their math and ELA skills by researching and creating a final project to reflect their major of choice In the afternoon, students will work on their public speaking and presentation skills by practicing weekly, giving and receiving feedback, revising their presentations, and then presenting their final project on the last day of the SLA. Our goal through this curriculum is for students to further develop their 21st-century skills and expose them to potential career opportunities that are available after their secondary education
On June 25th-27th, our summer staff took extensive professional development training provided by our administrative team on how to effectively deliver this curriculum and expand their teaching skills They will learn how to use our program-wide incentive system to instill scholarly habits in our students and how to guide our students to complete exemplary work.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a complete summer without fun! Each Friday, staff and students will participate in local field trips and physical fitness activities We will be visiting Fenway Park, Chez Vou Roller Skating Rink, McGolf Mini Golf, Boston Bowl, and hosting a field day (with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream included!) We welcome any visitors or guest speakers, so please don’t hesitate to contact our Program Director, Dana Harris, at dana@go3pointorg if you are interested in joining us at either of our sites this summer!
Many thanks to our supporters, BPS and their 5th Quarter Learning team, and Boston After School and Beyond for providing us with the support and funding to give our students these incredible opportunities.

This Spring has been a season of incredible generosity and we are grateful for the ways in which the community has rallied behind our mission Your belief and support in our work fuels the change we are making, and we are excited to share some highlights and upcoming opportunities to get involved
We are thrilled to announce we raised over $128,000+ through the 129th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America and our 3v3 Basketball Challenge These funds will directly impact our ability to continue offering free after-school and summer programming and expand our efforts to offer mental health services for our students We extend our deepest thanks to our runners and basketball teams, their network of supporters, and everyone who cheered them on
Our work has also been significantly strengthened by recent key grantors and we are honored to have received the support of The City of Boston’s Office of Black Male Advancement, Boston After School & Beyond, Suffolk District Attorney Office, Good Sports, Celtics Shamrock Foundation, and Dedham Savings Community Foundation
Carrying us into the Summer and Fall, we have exciting events on the horizon that you will want to bookmark .
