THE SWEETNESS OF YOU

the sweetness of you rising out of the tarn encased by Lake District crags
shadows thumbing their noses at Wordsworth and past poets mining for slate, kindness and something darker than the umbra beneath the fog
the sweetness of you rising up into the pelting diamonds slicing holes into the tiny lake
dull water fused with a new electric change but the interrupting fog mutes the shell casings pecking upon the water’s edge
the sweetness of you echoes the only path that slithers around the lake a perfume of another season a scent that cuts through the banks of mist a noir that dips into the lake and deeper into time
and you have known that long before beating drums opened my eyes and heart you rise above the dust of ghosts and become the maker of shadows.

Joshua Elias is a Los Angeles–based abstract painter, whose unique pictorial language has evolved over more than four decades. Through an intuitive process, Elias creates layered atmospheric surfaces that balance restraint with revelation.
“Elias often rises to the challenge of making abstract expressionist painting that is not derivative of mid-20th-centurey abstraction…(his) work is boldly colorful, initially appearing purely abstract, but containing figurative elements: mythological animals, real animals, and dark underwater imagery.”

His work has been exhibited internationally in museums: Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles), LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), as well as an international roster of galleries and collectors.
Elias’ current artworks in the exhibition, “The Dreams of Rabbits,” were created at 3.1 ART residency, in Saissac, France. The work is in response to the stunning display of nature, the artist’s interaction with the people, and the eclectic ambience of the village. All of which, served as inspiration and manna for the paintings presented.
