Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. They are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches using their highly skilled and specific chiropractic adjustments. DCs also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculosketeal system, which includes the muslces, ligaments and joints. These painful conditions may involve or impact the nerve system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of

injury. In addition, chiropractors offer advice to patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, health habits and occupational and lifestyle modification. What is a chiropractic adjustment? It is a manual procedure that utilises the highly refined skills developed during the doctor's intensive years of chirpractic education. He uses his hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, to restore or enhance joint function. Adjustments are adapted to the specific needs of each patient.

Your spinal joints contain "grease" known as synovial fluid. This grease contains dissolved gases. When your spine is adjusted, the spinal joints are gapped or opened, creating a vacuum within the joint. This vacuum pulls the gases out of the grease, turning the grease to foam. This release of gas is what creates the audible "pop". If there is no "popping" sound, it does not mean the adjustment was not

successful, it simply means that there was no sound from the escaping gas. That sound is not your spine "cracking" or "popping" like most people think. That sound is created by gas (in this case, nitrogen) rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. Another example of this phenomenon would be the "pop" sound you hear when the cork is taken out of a champagne bottle.
