How to Stop Procrastinating the Right Way Procrastination, our dear old toxic friend. If she just went away, imagine what we could achieve. But she just makes it so hard, right? Well, not anymore. Forget about those lazy days of doing absolutely nothing in hopes of some inspiration to come out of the clear blue sky. Because, let’s face it, it never does, and we end up rushing through everything at the last minute or not doing anything at all. Either way, it leaves us feeling miserable. That’s why we’re going to be using 5 scientificallybacked strategies that will help us get everything done and a little more. Strategy 1 - The Pomodoro Technique According to the book “The Pomodoro Technique: The Life-Changing Time-Management System,” the reason we procrastinate is that we’re afraid that we’re not capable of completing a certain task. Thus, our brain finds distractions to get us to stop worrying and feel “good” again. Unfortunately, this doesn’t make our problem disappear. It only gives us less time to do it and a bigger load of stress. That’s why this technique was created. In need of a system to help us get things done on time and without feeling miserable, the Pomodoro Technique was born, and it’s here to stay. The technique consists of a set of steps: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Choose the task you want to do. Set a timer to 25 minutes. Work on the task until the time’s up. Set a timer to 5 minutes (this is when you take a short break) 5. Do it 3 times. The fourth time take a 10-minute break. 6. Repeat until the task is completed.
Strategy 2 - The 5 Minute Rule This strategy is very simple but very effective. Whenever you feel like you have so many things to do and it’s going to be impossible to finish everything, remember to use The 5 Minute Rule. This rule consists in doing the task you have to do for only five minutes. No more, no less. If you still don’t want to do it after the time is over, then you can stop, but most of the time, you’ll realize what you have to do is not that hard, and you’ll just get it done. Strategy 3- Change Your Locus of Control Locus of control is the extent to which someone believes that they have control over the events that happen in their lives. This determines whether someone thinks their hard work will give them better results or not. Consequently, someone who believes their actions affect their future is more likely to act. On the other hand, someone who thinks success is a lottery won’t be motivated to do much because... why bother? If you’re a master procrastinator, it could be that you have an external locus of control, you think your actions won’t affect your luck so you won’t do anything at all. This can be fixed by changing your mindset. Realize that what you do now will determine the results you get later in any area of your life. It’s up to you.

Strategy 4- Set SMART Goals SMART goals are smart, but there’s a reason for that. These goals are made in a way that makes them the best and most realistic choice for goal setting. SMART goals have five characteristics that make them so effective: 1. Specific: The more specific the goal, the more direction you have to achieve it. 2. Measurable: Your goal has to be measurable so you know when you’re making progress. 3. Attainable: It must be attainable. If it isn’t, you’ll never feel accomplished. (This doesn’t mean it has to be easy) 4. Relevant: An irrelevant goal is probably just a waste of your time, so make sure to choose something that you really want to do. 5. Time-based: Without a deadline, it’s not a goal, it’s a dream. Make it a goal by setting that date and do not move it. Strategy 5 - Make a Timetable This is one of the best strategies to make sure you don’t waste your precious time. A timetable will keep you accountable. Make sure to organize your tasks and get things done in the time you set in your table. If you have to exercise at 7.30 AM, don’t wait until eight. Stick to your schedule, and you won’t be thinking you don’t have time for anything anymore. Quite the opposite, this will help you realize how much time you waste in useless stuff and how much you can get done in just a few hours of focused work. These are very helpful strategies that, if implemented, will turn your life around. Just remember that it’s a combination of all of them that will give you the best results. There’s not one magic trick that will make you stop procrastinating forever. You need to be consistent and make sure you put them into practice every day. Start now!

The Art of Cooking Potatoes
After it was first introduced to the Western world at the end of the 16th century, the simple potato soon became a staple of many cuisines, so much so that nowadays many can’t imagine a diet without it. However, these are days of fast food and ordered meals, and many are just too busy to bother with cooking their own food despite the greater health benefits of home-cooked meals. Some just don’t have the skills to even try to dabble in the culinary arts. If you are an absolute beginner at cooking, here are some basic tips to help you on your way to making tasty, crunchy potatoes and just general cooking proficiency. The first step starts in the way you cut them up. Make sure the pieces are as even as possible, because otherwise, you might end up with some potatoes that are overcooked while some remain under-cooked. One important principle in frying is to always make sure the pan is hot before putting anything on it. The best way to test that is to put a single piece of potato on the pan and if it immediately starts to sizzle in the oil then you know you’re good. The next step is about oil. For the best results, be conservative and use as little as possible. Not only does overusing oil make the potatoes mushy and tasteless it is also not good for your health. Of course, having too little is going to make the result equally inedible, so to achieve a good balance, pour only a little bit on the pan at first and put the potatoes on and stir them until they’re well covered in the oil. If you see that you need more, then just add, but at least you’ll be sure that you don’t have too much oil. Now put the lid on the pan and wait. We want to make sure the potatoes get soft without getting too brown so make sure to stir them as the bottom ones start to fry. The best advice is to watch for white steam. When you see it coming out of the sides, our out of the little vent hole if you have a lid like that, you know that it’s time to stir the potatoes. Do this until they get soft. Use a spatula to test the potatoes by breaking some apart. There is a stage before they’re entirely done when they can be broken but are still a bit hard and don’t break easily. I usually keep them under the lid a bit more, but how you want your potatoes is entirely up to you. After the potatoes are as soft as you want them to be, take the lid off and cook them until they get brown and crunchy. At this point, you want to stir often so they don’t get burned up and all are equally well cooked. If you haven’t yet perfected your oil adding skills, you might want to add a bit, but not too much. In fact, at this point, you might just want to cook until you run out of oil. Another thing to watch for is the smaller potato bits. When they are entirely brown, and some might even be getting black, you know you’re done. Just add salt, and whatever spices you like, and you’re good to go. Another good fried potato recipe uses boiled potatoes instead of raw ones, and it’s a perfect way to get rid of some leftovers. Of course, there is a difference if you’re using recently boiled, and still hot, potatoes versus ones that have cooled already, since the first ones are softer and that creates a nice contrast with the crunchiness. For boiled potatoes, there is no need to use a lid since they’re soft already and we want to keep stirring to a minimum or else they’ll get all broken up. If you have a small amount that’s fairly evenly spread out on the pan, you can just cook them until the bottom gets brown without stirring once. If standing next to a pan for nearly half an hour doesn’t sound like fun to you, there is always the hands-off variant of oven cooked potatoes. Just pop them inside and go do something else while they cook all by themselves. The only disadvantage is that it takes a lot longer for them to be done, 40 minutes to an hour depending on the amount, so if you’re already really hungry, that might not be the best option. As always, cut the potatoes into even slices. Something like six will do for an average size potato, so cut the potato in half and then in three parts. Spread them out evenly on an oiled pan and add salt and whatever spices you like. Personally, I’d recommend pepper and basil. Put them in a pre-heated oven and you’re good to go. As for exact cooking time, that’s always tricky because no two ovens are the same, not to even mention varying potato amounts, but something in the range of 40 to 50 minutes should be good. Also, if you have a large number of potatoes, it might be good to cook them an additional 10 minutes just from the upper side for crunchier results, otherwise the upper and middle ones will be just soft and sort of like boiled ones. Using these tips can get you started on making delicious and tasty potatoes by yourself.
