CONDITIONS OF SALE

LOCATION: The sale will be held at NWA J36 Auction Centre, Crooklands, Cumbria LA7 7FP (Sat Nat LA7 7NU)

CONDITIONS OF SALE: The sale will be held subject to the rules and regulations of each breed society, the conditions of sale as recommended by the Livestock Auctions Association and the Auctioneers Standard Conditions of sale.

All sheep will be sold under the Auspices of the Texel Sheep Society and the Conditions of sale relevant to individual sales. These can be viewed at texel.uk/societyrules

Auctioneers also display copies of the Conditions of sale within the auction house.

AUCTION MART RULES FOR VENDORS : The shepherd in charge must bring their respective lots forward, take them to and from the sale ring, attend until delivered and assist in trucking if required as the Auctioneers will be responsible only for what is delivered to the purchaser. Should the shepherd not be in attendance at the time his lots fall to be sold, it will be passed over and taken at the end of sale. All stock will proceed in the order of the catalogue and all lots not previously entered will be sold only when the list is finished. All purchases to be settled for and taken delivery of on the day of sale. No stock can be removed without a Pass. Purchasers should see that their stock is correct before leaving the gates, as no deduction can be made afterwards. No private sales prior to the stock being offered by Auction will be allowed or recognised by the salesman. The usual commission must be paid on consignments sold privately within this market. Every assistance in loading or keeping overnight, for the accommodation only of buyers, will be arranged, as far as possible, by the Auctioneers, who will not be responsible for loss or damage incurred thereby.

NOTE TO SELLER: For the avoidance of doubt NWA Ltd reserve the right to contra or keep sale proceeds to offset against an outstanding account.

- All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and in catalogue order, unless any change is announced by the Auctioneer.

The Club welcomes new members and look to a healthy expansion in the future with a committed membership. Catherine Parker will be pleased to discuss details of joining the club to anyone wishing to become a member.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SALE

1. All animals will be subject to a veterinary inspection. Their decision is final.

2. Animals MUST be in the auction by no later than 9am for the veterinary inspection. In the event that the vendors misses this deadline they will be responsible for the call out fee of the vet to come back and inspect.

3. All sheep will be sold subject to the condition of sale of the British Texel Sheep Society (By-Laws 11 & 12) and to the Auctioneer’s General Conditions Of Sale, which are available at the auctioneers office.

4. Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale if they are accompanied by an official MV status certificate completed correctly.

5. All sheep will be identified with a lot number hung around their neck.

6. All substitute Lots MUST be completed electronically (on Itexel) no later than 12 noon on Thursday 6th August 2026.

7. Some straw will be supplied in each pen, if the vendor requires any more it is their responsibility to take their own.

8. The auction mart will be open between 3pm -6pm on Saturday 8th August 2026, should you wish to go and set your pen(s) up ready for your animals to enter on the Sunday morning.

9. Any vendor that is travelling from afar and staying locally the night before the sale, must make arrangements directly with the auction mart, should they wish for their animals to stay there overnight.

SHOW RULES

1. The first class of animals must make their way to the show ring at 8.30am prompt.

2. Each vendor may submit a maximum of 2 animals per class in the show.

3. Any animals entered in the ‘natural born’ class will be verified as entitled to be there.

4. Prize money and trophies will only be awarded if the prize winning animal is sold through the sale ring.

5. All trophies MUST be signed for at the auction mart office. Any trophies not signed for will be retained by the Club Secretary. It is the person who holds the trophy’s responsibility to ensure that the trophy is returned to the Club Secretary before the following years sale.

6. Rosettes will be awarded for 1st to 6th place.

Texel Performance Indexes are designed to help commercial producers and pedigree breeders identify animals with the greatest potential to improve flock profitability.

Higher Value = Higher Potential

Animals are ranked to make selection simple; high index Texel rams (Top 5% and above) add over £650 to their commercial progeny compared to those ranked as average.

Which Index?

Prime lamb producers should use the terminal index as this is weighted for meat production. Pedigree breeders and producers retaining female replacements should use the replacement index as this balances maternal and carcass traits.

Sub-indexes for growth, muscle and fat weight and reproduction allow breeders and commercial producers to identify animals that offer advantages in areas to suit their production goals. E.g. targeting a ram that ranks highly for fat weight for mating to lean females, to produce lambs that finish well.

Accuracy Matters

Indexes are backed by an accuracy percentage - giving confidence in how reliably an animal will pass traits on to the next generation. Higher accuracy reduces risk and supports confident breeding decisions.
