Say Hello to our New Staff‌ We are excited to announce the addition of three new members of staff to our livestock team! Yvonne, Matthew and Bethan have all just recently joined NWA to help and support our other auctioneers and fieldsmen and to help increase livestock numbers and grow our customer base. Yvonne Willison joined in the middle of October as a fieldsman and auctioneers co-ordinator. Yvonne lives in Levens with her husband Rob and son Freddie on a mixed Dairy and Sheep Farm, where they milk 140 pedigree Jerseys and lamb 1200 Mule, Swaledale and Highlander sheep. Every year Yvonne and Rob purchase Bluefaced Leicester Ram Lambs to try and then sell on as Shearlings at the NWA Bluefaced From left to Right: Yvonne Willison, Matthew Middleton, Bethan Waller Leicester Sale at J36. She has previously worked at Bentham Auction for 10 years in a marketing administrator role. Yvonne will be based at J36 and works a Monday and Wednesday. Matthew Middleton joined the NWA Team as a fieldsman in October, from Gisburn, he has previously worked as a Drover and also on farms local to Gisburn. Matthew has always had an ambition to be a fieldsman/auctioneer since a young age having grown up on a farm and spending a lot of time at livestock auctions. Outside of work he has a keen interest in livestock, buying Mule Gimmer Lambs to rear and sell as Shearlings, in which he takes great pride. Matthew is also a very active member of Young Farmers and has competed at many county level stock judging events. Matthew will be based between both sites and you will see him at most sales and can be contacted on 07713 787510. At the beginning of November we welcomed Bethan Waller to North West Auctions, she has also taken on a role as fieldsman. Originally from Durham, Bethan moved to Bentham in May with her partner Oliver to run a small farm heifer rearing and they also have 60 breeding ewes. In July 2016 Bethan completed a foundation in Agricultural and Land Management and then worked as a cattle preparation clipper and milk recorded. Bethan has a background in Beef and Sheep Farming and enjoys showing Dairy Cattle in her spare time. Bethan will be mainly based at Lancaster but you will also see her at J36, she can be contacted on 07973 852813

Lancaster Sale Reports Friday 4th November A huge entry of 158 Cast Cows and Over Thirty Month Cattle at Lancaster Once again a good number of Store Cattle forward at Lancaster with over 400 catalogued. Not as many strong short keep cattle in the market today, but still plenty of quality on offer. Plenty of bullocks selling in excess of the £1,200 mark with well fleshed good quality bullocks selling in excess of the £1,300 barrier. Bullocks sold to a top of £1,330 from J & O Galbraith of Endmoor with a Charolais with British Blue bullocks selling to a top of £1,320 from JM & AG Swarbrick of Bensons Farm. Plenty of short keep native bullocks sold in the mid twelve hundreds. Heifers sold to a top of £1,160 twice firstly from J & M Maudsley & Sons of Raw Head with a pen of four Angus heifers with Hereford heifers from J & M Cottam of Hill Top. All vendors leaving pleased with the day’s trade. A bumper entry of Cast Cows forward this week with 158 forward. All cows eagerly bid for from start to finish with the trade not altering. A strong trade for over thirty month old heifers saw British blue heifers sell to 199.5ppk from R & V Walmsley of Richmond Fold with black and white heifers selling to 149.5ppk or £867 from ME Wannop and Son of Heaton Hall. Beef cows sold in excess of 130ppk topping at 134.5 from JG & PH Thompson of Poppy Farm with a Limousin. Black and white cows topped at 134.5ppk from KE Robinson of Kiln Hall with plenty of meaty Black and White cows in and around 120ppk. Black and white cows sold to a top of £1,021.34 from H Halhead and Son of Lawsons Farm. an overall market average of just shy of 100ppk was achieved which considering the time of year and the quality of cows at this time of year is a very healthy average and vendors strongly urged to keep cows coming forward. An entry of 50 Calves and Stirks forward this week with the majority being beef calves which is always good to have. Beef bulls sold to a strong trade with plenty of farmer buyers in the market with heifer calves harder to place then seen over previous weeks. Beef calves topped at £415 for a British blue from JH Towers & Sons of Tunstall Hall with the consignment of British Blue bull calves from Philip Halhead of Norbreck always a credit to him selling to a top of £380 with a British blue bull. British blue heifers topped at £370 from J & G Thornley of Derby Lodge. Beef bulls calves regularly towards and in excess of the £300 mark. A great run of calves from David and Eileen Wallbank of Tils Farm saw Angus Bull Calves sell to £370. A younger entry of Black and White calves a slightly steadier trade this week. Monday 7th November There was a smaller entry of Prime Lambs forward for the sale today at Lancaster. Following a strong trade enjoyed at Lancaster the previous week, trade was unexpectedly steadier then the previous week. An entry with a large proportion of mule lambs forward in the market. The trade topped twice at £86 from Freddie and Mary Woodhouse of Fell End with heavy weight Suffolk lambs and also achieving £86 was J Bargh & Son of North Farm with Heavy weight Texel lambs. Lambs weighing in excess of 50kg regularly selling in excess of £80. Beltex lambs sold to 199ppk from Ian Richardson of Woodplumpton with Mule lambs selling to a top of £74 with pens of mules selling about £27 above their weight, a few pound back on the week with all mule lambs forward averaging just shy of £72. J36 Sale Reports Thursday 3rd November Today's sale saw a cracking entry of 2793 Store Lambs put forward. The trade was maintained throughout the sale, with all classes keenly bid for. There was a strong demand for Texel, Suffolks and Charollais lambs, which saw bidders putting them to the mid £60's. The interest for the hill breeds, saw Mashams, Mule, Swales and the Rough Fells, maintain good prices from start to finish. 2793 - Store lambs - avg - £51.57. Topping the store lamb trade today was Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans Farm, for a Mule ewe lamb, which realised £76, with the final average for Mules finishing at £52.93. Peaking at £70 for Texels was W D M Rigg, The Orchard. It was a run of 58 Suffolks from E & A Thompson, High Butterbent, that sold for £64.50. In the native section it was M A Grant, Winterscales Farm, with a pen of 15 that realised £65.50. A pen of 20 Charollais lambs topped at £62.50, from Coward Brothers, Kirby Hall. In the Hill Breed sections, a run of 22 Mashams consigned by J E Read, Mealrigg sold to £64. The Swaledale lambs made £54 from F R T Cavendish, Holker Estate Co. We had forward 44 young Calves for this morning’s sale, it was good to see fresh faces round the ring which help maintain a grand trade. Thursday 3rd November NWA - J36 - Sat 5th Nov had on offer over 770 lots of implements and small tools. We had a great entry forward for our monthly implement sale, which attracted buyers from near and far. There was a huge selection of hand tools, from farm toys, monster bike (new), boxes of nuts and bolts, to an antique bath, and old milk kits. Out in the yard there was a choice of new feed barriers, gates, fenncing equipment, new sheep pens and walkways, with three vintage tractors up for grabs too. There was definitely something for everyone. Tuesday 8th November NWA - J36, Had on offer 1586 Prime Lambs and 471 Cast Sheep. 1586 Prime Lambs, Topping the trade today was a cracking 60kg Texel, realising £101, which was consigned by S P Pease, Underlay Estate Office. Top price per kilo for lambs 214p for a smart pair of 43kg Beltexs, consigned by P & T L Emundson Ltd, Low Hall Farm. Trade was sharper for all weights and classes today, with buyers keenly bidding throughout the sale. The lighter weight lambs, 32-39kg averaged 160p, with the tidy types hitting 170-180p. Any nicely fleshed lambs 39.5-45kg, averaged 172p, with the quality animals making 190-200p. Lambs in the 45.5-51kg weight range, were making £80-90, and lambs that were over 52kgs were peaking at £90-95. The overall sale average was 167.18p/kg. The Cast Sheep trade was brisker this afternoon, with all classes maintaining good rates throughout the sale.Top price per head in the Cast ring was a Texel ram consigned by F Carr, Nissan Huts.P K & R Woof, Storth End Farm, topped the ewe trade at £103, for Texels. Beltexs peaked to £86 from Rash Mill Cottage.

The monthly sale of all types of Pigs including weaners, store and prime pigs had a bumper entry of 187 forward. A tough trade was had with prime the only specification of pigs in demand selling to a strong trade as regularly seen at J36.
