NWA Lancaster Monday 28th December Young Handlers Show & Sale North West Auctions Lancaster held the Christmas Bank Holiday sale of lambs, including the Christmas Show of Young Handlers Prime Lambs. Taking the overall champion rosette was Charlie Butler of Hambleton with a smart Beltex lamb, realising £100, selling to Plumgarths Farm Shop, Kendal. Away from the show lambs met a faster trade, topping at £84 from FK & F Woodhouse & Son, Fell End or 188ppk for, a pen of 21, 30kg swales from Allan and Chris Pye, Abbeystead. Overall average of 162ppk for all forward. Swale lambs were the fastest trade this morning with 38kg lambs realising £63.50 from RH & C Ayrton, Ouzle Thorn. Mules sold to £74 for a pair from D France, Isle of Skye, a pen of 13, 47kg mules from WI & A Atkinson & Son, achieved £71.50. Texels sold to £80 from N Brown with regular vendor P Lawrenson, Brindle realising £79.50 with well meated 48kg lambs. The fast trade for Cast Ewes continued at Lancaster this morning, with 5 active buyers ringside. Trade topped at £107 for a Texel ewe from ST Birkett, Hall Croft Barn, with another from the same home at £106. Mules sold some £18 - £20 above previous weeks, topping at £78 for a pair from EJ Burrow, Milnthorpe, closely followed by Sandra Blades with 15, achieving £76. Horned sheep sold to £73 for a Dalesbred Tup from D France, Isle of Skye and a pen of roughs from F Towers selling at £60. An average of £72.09 for all ewes forward, more needed to fill the demands of buyers. Only 4 Cast Cows forward with no real headline prices, JJ Woof & Son topped the sale with a Blonde cow realising 104.5ppk. Just 10 Calves forward, however a fast trade for all. Fleckvieh bulls sold to £295 from Brian Barnes, Middleton, Herefords to £260 for Bulls and £215 for heifers from Steve Mason and Black and Whties to £80 from TD & V Whitaker, Winmarleigh.
