PRIME LAMBS Lancasters weekly Monday morning sale saw an increased number forward, with a busy ringside of buyers ensured another competitive trade from start to finish and respectable market average of 395p/kg. Trade was topped by J Twigge, Lindale selling heavy well finished Texel lambs at £236, closely followed by W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe achieving £234. 40kg Texels topped at 550p/kg from M Broadhurst, Westhoughton. Numerous pens of quality, well-bred pure lambs sold over the 500p/kg mark. Buyers showed the strongest demand for well-finished lambs, with quality and finish continuing to command significant premiums. More lambs are required every Monday morning at Lancaster to satisfy strong buyer demand. CULL SHEEP A good entry of cast sheep met a competitive trade throughout the sale. Stronger, wellfleshed ewes were in the greatest demand, selling to a top of £228 per head for a pen full of pure Texels from GH Sanderson and Family, Catford, with other first cross Texels selling to £220 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e. Well meated Mules sold to £192 from D&K Swarbrick, with medium Mules frequently £140-£155. A small entry of cast rams topped at £208 for a Cheviot from A & J Smith, Ingleton. More cull sheep are required next Monday morning at Lancaster to satisfy buyer’s demand. J36 Rural Auction Centre: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 14th July 2026. PIGS Strong prime trade today with a big selection forward. Trade was topped by GC & GW Taylor, Kendal at £175 for a prime gilt. Most prime pigs were making roughly around the 150ppk. Weaners sold nicely with a top price of £48 and an average of £29.62. better fed end of sheep again the flavour of the day. 47kg Texels from Messrs TA Teasdale hit 438.3p/kg, while 48kg Continental lambs from Messrs RF & CE Hodgson made 435.4p/kg. A pair of quality 50kg lambs from Messrs GR Geldard sold for 432p/kg. An overall average of 395p/kg was achieved today and appetite for plenty more. CAST EWES Cull trade remains strong with a strong selection and plenty of buyer attendance. Sheep at the top end of the grade would be similar to previous weeks, however trade for sheep in the middle of the row and to the lower end of the spectrum were dearer on the week. Hill sheep were particularly strong. Topping todays trade was Messrs Boyren, Colton with Su olk ewes @ £224, many pens of sheep were well over the £200 mark, from the continental Su olk categories. Mules topped @ £194 from Dennis Sharp, Flodder Hall, this was a hard fought category with a lot of pens between £188-£194. Hill Ewes were a noticeably good trade with a top price of £156 for Rough Fell Ewes from L Potter, Orton & £150 for Swaledales from Bob Lawrence, Grange-Over-Sands. J36 Rural Auction Centre: Fortnightly Sale of Store Lambs. Thursday 16th July 2026. STORE LAMBS First Store Lamb Sale Averaged: £125.23 The start of the season started o with a bang which saw an increased entry and average. Trade didn’t disappoint the vendors with an average between £15-£20 up on the year, this proving Junction 36 is the destination for store lambs. The show of lambs mainly consisting of Texels and Su olks with a strong representation of Mules also. The very best of lambs were making between £150 - £161 topping the trade at £161 were a pen of Texels from GM Strong, Meaburn the same firm had other pens at £158 & £156, closely followed by Paige Misselbrook, Cowan Bridge with £160. Su olks were incredibly good to sell with the majority selling over the £126 mark with a top price of £149 from S Dugdale, Coniston. Mules took an impressive leap on the year with an average of £114. Lambs of longer keep were probably to dearest prospects with Su olks and Continentals making between £118 & £134. Hill lambs were also present with Rough Fells making £103, Gritstones to £84 and Herdwicks to £76. J36 is the place to be for store lamb sales, more lambs needed! Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle. Friday 17th July 2026. REARING CALVES/WEANED CALVES 87 Forward Good entry of calves today with a large show of younger calves. Trade was very strong indeed with trade for younger end and black and white calves been very good. Topping the days trade was a smart British Blue bull calf making £800 from JP & C Robson, Preston. Aberdeen Angus calves remain good to sell with calves topping out at £760 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale and an overall average of £617.50. Hereford calves were also in demand with trade maxing out at £750 from Raby Farms, Preesall. Black and white calves were good to sell with some smart Friesian types available, average for these was £333 with a top price of £480 from Raby Farms, Preesall. Coming very close behind was Eddie Newsham at £460, with a very strong run to follow this. Stirks were good to sell with a smaller entry on the week and an overall average of £1080. Topping this category was a strong Aberdeen Angus heifer making £1160 from AT Burrow & Son. STORE CATTLE Lancasters weekly store cattle sale saw trade sharper on the week with some cattle easily up £60-£80 with good runs of evenly bunched cattle selling to a premium. Steers today averaged £2067 and heifers averaging £1875 for the 125 sold with the men who missed coming with entered cattle feeling they had missed a flying trade. Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton today top of the shop with 4 well meated South Devons selling to £2500.
