Weekly Report & Newsletter - 14th August 2026 North West Texel Breeders Club Annual Show & Sale of Pedigree Texel Rams & Females, Sunday 9th August 2026 Sharp Trade for Pedigree Texels at J36 North West Auctions held its annual Show and Sale of Pedigree Texel Rams and Females on behalf of the North West Texel Breeders Club, attracting strong interest from breeders across the region and beyond. A buoyant trade throughout the day resulted in quality stock meeting a ready demand from start to finish. Leading the way was the pre-sale show first prize Gimmer from Messrs P K & R Woof, judged first prize by Alan Clark. The outstanding Gimmer Shearling, a daughter of Ettrick Huntsman, combined power, style and correctness, drawing intense ringside bidding before topping the sale at 3,800gns. The successful purchaser was Alan Blackwood of the Auldhouseburn flock. The Gimmer Shearling section was packed with quality throughout. Messrs Teward sold a stylish daughter of their 4.5K Tillycairn Hamish to 2,000gns, while TA & R Laird followed closely behind at 1,900gns. Demand remained consistent, with a further trio of impressive gimmer shearlings each selling to 1,800gns. The shearling ram trade reflected the strength seen throughout all sections. Topping at 3,000gns was a powerful Vallum Horsepower son from Andrew J Clark, making a new home with BJS Farms. Renowned for producing elite stock, TA & R Laird sold a stylish Cambwell Godfather son to 2,000gns, purchased by RG & B Lewis. Matching this figure were quality entries from RP & S Whitley and C Cornthwaite, both selling to 2,000gns. Ram lambs were met with equally spirited bidding. The section topper came from Alan Blackwood, whose tremendous 110k Midlock Inferno son, realised 2,600gns when purchased by R & E Ladds of the Benson Hall flock. Next best at 2,300gns was an eyecatching Auldhouseburn Imperial King son from David J McKerrow, finding a new home with J Woodburn & Partners of the Mansriggs flock. Numerous other ram lambs sold comfortably in excess of 1,500gns, underlining the depth of quality on o er. Continuing a memorable day for the flock, Messrs P K & R Woof also led the ewe lamb trade. A pen of strong daughters of Drimsynie Islander, sold to 1,800gns to Messrs Askwith of the Mown Meadows flock, with two further lambs from the same home each achieving 1,000gns. Overall, it was a tremendous sale from beginning to end, delivering a vibrant ringside atmosphere, a remarkable 92% clearance rate and an encouraging start to the upcoming breeding sales season.

D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcli e, with their usual run of well meated Lambs topped at £222 or 472p/kg for a Beltex. WS Burrow with a quality run of lambs not far behind at £218 for a pair of Texels with more from this same good home at £208 or 416p/kg. Plenty of other well bred and fed lambs round the 380p/kg to 390p/kg mark. More of this type of lambs can easily be sold at Lancaster. A more commercial type lamb, if well meated and around 45kg, around the 360p/kg to 370p/kg mark. W Garnett, Milnthorpe had heavy weight Su olks to £171. A handful of heavyweight Mules to £172 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyersdale. More Lambs required for this early Monday morning sale with buyers eager to fill orders and get lambs away to the abattoirs.

J36 Rural Auction Centre: Sale of Pigs, Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 11th August 2026 PIGS Prime pigs were good to sell today, pence per kilo up at £2.20 and a top price of £205 from John Stott. Peter Woof had a consistent trade with four pigs at £200 apiece. Stores were around the £100 mark, Mark Tattersall had 50kg stores at £98. Strong weaners were also good to sell. PRIME LAMBS Lambs at J36 had a similar trade on the week, with perhaps a stronger trade for the better end and lesser finished sheep harder to cash. The full range on o er as per usual, with weights forward from 32kg to 62kg. More numbers about this week and a continued strong attendance ringside to match. Messrs PJ & ES Rogerson led the way this week, topping at £222 for a pen of 4 Texels. This good farming also topped the leading consignments table this week, with 26 forward averaging £206.54. Other Texels sold to £214 from Wishingwell Genetics, while Su olks topped at £210 from Messrs HE & RB Taylforth. Good, well-finished, heavy end of lambs definitely still the flavour of the day, with 58kg Texels from Messrs PJ & ES Rogerson hitting 378ppk. Meaty types of all weights generally getting to that 350–360ppk mark. The lighter end from Messrs C Rose sold to 363.6ppk. Continental at 44kg from Messrs M & RW Stirzaker hit 361.4ppk. Heavies from Wishingwell Genetics sold for 365ppk, and a pair from P & BA Longhorn made 362.7ppk. Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle. Friday 14th August 2026 REARING CALVES/WEANED CALVES A smaller show than last week with many young calves. Trade was certainly favouring younger calves with them looking dearer than the older end. Topping todays trade was from Messrs Robinson, Crosshill with a Blue Heifer to £940. Limousin calves were of quality selection today, with a top price of £840 from D & M Foster, Church Farm. The bulk of the sale would comprise of Blue calves averaging £660, and Angus averaging £620. Friesians were few in number today but were a very good trade none the less, with an average of £375. Hereford cross calves were also a strong trade with an average of £460 and a top price of £490 from JE & SM Seedall. OTM CATTLE Lancasters weekly sale of OTM cattle saw more numbers about this week. As seen nationwide, trade coming under pressure for the leaner type beasts while meat would be a stand on trade on the week, with an overall average of 234p/kg being achieved for everything all in. All OTM Heifers today averaging 275p/kg with D Fox & Co selling Angus Heifers to 309.5p/kg while R & E Ladds sold OTM Heifers to £1998 or 280p/kg. Other Friesian Heifers around the 265p/kg to 275p/kg. Cast Steers saw more numbers about with Friesian OTM Steers to £2076 or 309.5p/kg for R & E Ladds, with others from the same good home to £2051 or 305p/kg. Beef bred OTM Steers to 334.5p/kg for Limousins from SJ & AL Hargreaves, Morcambe, with others to £20238.87 or 319.5p/kg for a Blue from DJ Clarke Farming, Barnacre.
