PRIME HOGGS

Increased interest in all classes of hoggs today ahead of the upcoming festival. Best bred and fed hoggs to £192 and 409p/kg for Beltex cross from AG Butler with others nicely £180 to £190 & 360p/kg to 390p/kg. Standard weight hoggs in keenest demand as were the better end lightweight hoggs. Mule to £178, Cheviot to £177, Masham £157, Herdwicks £152.

A market SQQ of 346p/kg with hoggs today ranging from 33kg to 82kg.

J36 Rural Auction Centre: Online Machinery Sale, Tuesday 10th February 2026.

North West Auctions held two sales over 4 days which saw over 2000 lots o ered for sale to a very successful clearance rate of 92%.

The monthly online sale once again saw nationwide interest with several overseas purchasers successfully filling loads.

A yard full of vehicles saw tractors sell to £10,9000 for a Zetar 7045 4WD, £10,800 for Massey Ferguson 6150 4WD. Several plant dispersals drew the crowds with a Kubota KX613 selling at £11,100, Manitou Telehandler to £10,900, 3.5T digger to £5,500, Thwaites dumper to £4,200, High Tip dumper to £3,000, Bomag roller to £2,200. Vehicles sold to £8,000 for a Vauxhall Horse Box, £2,200 for Hilux pickup. Plenty of run around vehicles £800-£1,500.

Trailers once again in abundance with a Flemming tipping trailer to £4,800, 14ft Ifor Williams Livestock trailer to £4,500, Ifor Williams Livestock Trailer to £2,200, 16ft Ifor Williams Plant Trailer to £2,000, Graham Edwards Trailer to £1,700.

Well maintained machinery and equipment again easily sold and in keenest demand from both traders and end users. It really is worth giving items a wash prior to auction.

A 1600-gallon tanker to £5,000, Abbey tanker to £3100, 4 lamb adopters to £1000, grass harrows to £800, sheep race to £700, lamb creep feeder to £600. Other items of interest included a catering trailer at £2,200, crate of reclaimed green slate to £1,000 and £920, Pam Mixer to £800, Hydraulic log splitter to £500, Tractor rear mud flaps to £480, sheep feed barrier to £400.

On Saturday 7th the inaugural live sale of workshop tools, equipment and small items saw over 1000 lots o ered for sale, a very successful sale was had by all with the next one scheduled for Saturday 11th April to include a local workshop clearance.

Saturday 18th April- Special sale of Vintage and Collectable tractors, machinery, equipment and bygones to include 28 tractors from 3 collections.

PIGS

Despite the national trend held steady, quality fat pigs were hitting the £200 mark, special mention to John Stott making £220 and £200. Trade for weaners was strong, topping at £68 and averaging £48.

PRIME HOGGS

Market Bulletin – PRIME HOGGS

Momentum continues to grow at the Junction 36 weekly prime sheep sale. All aboard today were welcomed with strong demand from the o , proper competition right through and a highly competitive trade at every stop.

Hoggs topped at £200 from both ST Birkett & Son and Messrs J France. Heavies today regularly selling for £190 plus. Top price per kilo was for a Texel from Messrs M&S Blease making 419.5p/kg. PJ&ES Rogerson regular run of quality hit 402p/kg for a pen of five Texels while Messrs ST Birkett sold Beltexs to 400p/kg. The lighter end of hoggs were also very good to sell once again, with 32kg continental sheep topping at 381p/kg from Messrs TA Teasdale. Again, sheep in the 40kg to 45kg mark were the best weights to sell, regularly between 370p/kg and 395p/kg. IN LAMB BREEDING SHEEP

Texel Ewes to £1100 at J36

Today’s sale of in lamb ewes featured the much-anticipated reduction sale of Texel ewes from Robert Sutton, Crosscrake. The ewes, presented very well by daughters Liz & Nicola met a strong and well-deserved trade.

The consignment topped at £1100 for a pair carrying twins with other pairs selling to £800. A further 5 lots sold over £400 with the whole run averaging a healthy £423.03.

Other in lamb sheep saw the flock reduction from JM Simpson, Underbarrow sell commercial, aged Mules & Texels to £210 with others to £195.

Next fortnight sees the flock dispersal from Low Moor Howe Farm LTD to include

STORE HOGGS

The scores on the doors for the Stores.

Store lambs were in demand with an emphasis on shape & class. A total of 845 lambs came to an average of £114.37, the highest average so far this season.

Texel lambs led the way on highest price with multiple pens over £130 mark. Top price came from AE Atkinson, Endmoor with a pen of 12 Texel lambs at £150. The lambs on o er were predominantly continental, Su olk and horned lambs. Mules were fewer in number today but averaged well none the less at £108.

More lambs and breeding ewes wanted for the next sale on the 26th February.

More calves, more trade.

Some buzz round the calf ring today saw an increased entry sell to vendor’s advantage. Bull calves today reached £930 for Charolais from G&ME Woodhouse, Ellel who sold others at £890. Limousin bulls from D&M Foster, Out Rawcli e sold to £910 with British Blue to £860 from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme. A nice run of calves from Raby Farms, Preesall topped the Aberdeen Angus at £760, with Hereford to £700 from JS

Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme. Younger month old sorts perhaps the trade of the day selling to £750 for British Blues from JP&C Robson, Brock who sold others to £640 x2. Dairy bulls sold to £640 for Montbeliarde from Raby Farms, Preesall who sold others at £590 and £550 x2. Black and Whites sold to £460 from JS&A Towers, Hornby. Heifers calves sold to £810 for a very sweet Simmental heifer from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme. Inra 95 sold to £660 from JM&MH France, Littledale with Aberdeen Angus at £650 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Younger rearers again the order of the day with these to £640 for British Blues from C&J Smith, St Michaels or £630 from JP&C Robson, Brook.

STORE CATTLE

Lancaster weekly store sale saw a catalogue entry of 181 with trade every bit as good as previous weeks despite talks of slow finished beef sales.

Steers averaged at £2095 while heifers averaged £1864 with this including a proportion of younger smaller stores.

Strong stores would see a top of £2600 for a cracking pair of Limousin steers from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead, other Limousin steers from DE & SM Moorhouse, Kendal to £2480 for a pair. British Blue steers at just 23 months old to £2580 from AG Sta ord, Out Rawcli e with other British Blue from the same good home at £2500. Regular Lancaster vendors L Parsons & Sons, Levens saw his run of Aberdeen Angus top at £2550 with other Aberdeen Angus steers at £2500 from TJ Lloyd, Settle. AG Sta ord, Out Rawcli e continued his good days trading seeing his Hereford steers to £2450. As mentioned above show of younger smaller stores in the average trading round the £1750-£1850 mark for 15–16-month-olds.

Heifer stores saw plenty of interest ringside with a trio of 24-month-old Charolais heifers to £2400 from WA Hodgson, Kendal other Charolais heifers to £2150 from KG &

LM Park, Grange over Sands. P Whitton & Son, Kendal with Limousin heifers to £2400. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £2250 from Holgate Caravans, Silverdale. British Blues to £2100 firstly from SH & LE Birkett, Nether Kellet and KG & LM Park, Grange over Sands. Fleckvieh heifers to £2200 from EW & RM Towers, Hornby who also had Friesian heifers to £2180.

Many more store cattle can be handled here on Friday with buyers able to handle large numbers of cattle of all types.

OTM CATTLE

Lancaster weekly OTM sale saw 74 cattle forward consisting of 63 OTM cows, 6 OTM heifers, 4 OTM cast steers and 3 OTM bulls. Twice the number could have easily been sold today with trade sharper on the week with an overall average of 268ppk being achieved.

Top grossing beast today would go to D & E Whitaker, Quernmore with their Charolais cast bull at £2923.95 with another cast Charolais bull to £2560.26 from EW & A Bradshaw, Stalmine.

OTM heifers to £2656.71 for a Charolais from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton other OTM heifers from the same good home at £2368.50 this time for a British Blue. Other OTM British Blue heifers at 384.5ppk from AT Burrow & Son, Lancaster. Dairy bred OTM heifers to 314.5ppk for Friesian from R & E Ladds, Kendal.

OTM cast cows saw Friesian see the strongest trade topping at 329.5ppk or £2415.24 from J & G Thornley, Preston. Other Friesian OTM cows at 274.5ppk or £2168.55 from PW & JM Norris & Son, Hornby.

Beef bred OTM cows to £2356 or 294.5ppk for a Hereford from AJ Metcalf, Out Rawcli e while continental cows topped at 284.5ppk or £2253.24 for B & AC Barnes, Carnforth. Cast OTM steers saw plenty of demand topping at 364.5ppk for British Blues, others from the same home at 349.5ppk.
