WM Reed & Son, Lands Farm had a good day all around with texel crosses to £3700 and £2900. The sale featured many annual consignments, these seeing WJ & VJ Case sell to £2400, Messrs Buckle to £2200 and J Woodburn & Partners to £2000. Beltex crosses hit £1800 from G Sowerby while Charollais crosses hit £1700 6 times from Messrs Geldard, Ring 2 was equally as animated from minute 1, Su olks hitting heights of £1800 for shearlings from RA Batty. Aged rams to £1600 from V Bracken while ram lambs to £1200 from Messrs J Irving. Pure Charollais to £1200 from RJ & J Towers with the days averaging an impressive £900 for all types forward. Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Monday 7th September 2026 PRIME LAMBS A smaller show of lambs forward today, due to many local farmers being tied up with movements following a busy few days of breeding sheep sales. LE&A Ridding, Selside topped the days trade, selling heavy weight Texels to £206, closely followed by £204 for continentals from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof and Beltex’s at £202 from J Twigge, Lindale. Topping the pence per kilo today was TR Prickett, Hutton Roof achieving 417p/kg for
48kg Texels, with 409p/kg achieved by both WS Burrow, Silverdale and J Twigge, Lindale. Buyers were showing preference towards well bred and fed lambs, with a respectable market average of 338p/kg achieved and a market SQQ of 343p/kg. More lambs are required for next Monday’s sale, gates are open from 7am, with a prompt sale start time of 10am. PRIME LAMBS Good meat, good trade Lambs adding up nicely especially the fittest end. All types about and weights from 29kg to 64kg forward. Slightly short on numbers this week with many local vendors on a standstill after buying tups on Friday night however those who made it were well rewarded. Lambs sold to £200 for Texels from Messrs RT Colbear, a pair from Messrs J Twigge hit £198 and up to £197 from Messrs JN & DJ Bowes. Top ppk of the days was for a smashing pair from Messrs KA Purtill making 404.2ppk. A further 9 Texel from Messrs J Carrick & Sons sold for 391.3ppk. Messrs KA Purtill sold further sheep to 387.5ppk while Messrs Jack Turnbull run topped at 380.9ppk. Lighter end also selling well, 40kg lambs from Messrs D & DW Prickett made 365ppk. 42kg lambs made 364.3ppk again from Messrs RT Colbear. Thursday 10th September 2026 STORE LAMBS Average: £117.48 There was a surge in both strength and confidence at Kendal today with a Broadchurch range of lambs and buyers keen to buy quality now that grass has started to catch up. With 3500 lambs forward, all breeds would be stronger than the previous Fortnight with the average up towards £10. Topping the market today was Messrs Brogden, Kirkby Stephen with a pen of smashing Beltex x gimmer lambs, reaching £186. Texel x lambs dominated the numbers today with an impressive average of £119 and a top price of £153 from GM Strong, Maulds Meaburn. There was close competition with other notable pens at £150 from AE Atkinson, Crook and £149 from MB & J Fell, Old Hutton.
Su olk lambs were in large number as well with Ben Heaps, Chorley making £141 and DR Law, Kirkby Stephen coming a very close second at £140. Mules were in demand today with a £112 average and a top price of £117 from Martin Fishwick, Longsleddale. Trade was seen with massive embrace and plenty of demand was obvious. Friday 11th September 2026 REARING CALVES/WEANED CALVES Averages: • Bulls- £648 • Heifers- £524 Trade for calves, hard to match anywhere else An increase in numbers on the week with younger calves certainly being in demand. A show of 60 calves comprised of mainly British Blues and Aberdeen Angus. Topping the trade today was a pair of Aberdeen Angus bulls making £960 from Ken Kelsall.
Younger calves were tremendous to sell with JK & BJ Birkett & Son, Morecambe with Aberdeen Angus bull calves to £890. RE & P Miller, Barnacre close contenders with their Aberdeen Angus topping out at £860. British Blue calves were also good to sell with RW Bainbridge making £850. Other notable mentions in the bull calves were from RE & P Miller with a Hereford at £840. Heifer calves were in sti competition for top price with a Montbeliarde once again from RE & P Miller at £650. STORE CATTLE Store cattle met a sharper trade throughout, with an increased entry forward and strong buyer demand. Simmentals sold to £2700, consigned by regular vendors Barlow Bros, Croston. WT Eastham & Sons, Goosnargh sold British Blue steers to £2420, with a strong entry of Blues from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse, reaching £2350. Charollais steers sold to £2380 from BN Greenwood Ltd, Catterall. Angus cattle remain particularly sought after at Lancaster, with a ring full of steers achieving £2300, from both H Birkett & Son, Overton, and J Lamb, Glasson. Heifers topped at £2180 for a single Charolais from AJ Taylor, Galgate, closely followed by a trio of British Blues from JW Atkinson, Bentham, at £2100.

Cast cows sold to a top of 329.5p/kg for a British Blue from D J Townley, Ashton, whilst dairy cows achieved 259.5p/kg from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcli e. The top grossing cow was a Friesian from J Hoggarth & Sons, Slyne, realising £2,003. OTM heifers topped at 279.5p/kg, with a top gross price of £1869, both from Wannops Farms, Morecambe.
