PRIME LAMBS Lancasters weekly sale of prime lambs and cast ewes saw a decent entry of 654 for the August bank holiday with a SQQ of 320p/kg, which included a large proportion of heavy weight lambs around the 50kg mark. Topping the pence per kilo today was DJ Clarke Farming, Garstang with Beltex lambs at 391k/kg. Other Beltex lambs from J Lamb, Old Glasson sold to 387p/kg with other well bred and fed Texel / Beltex lambs around the 362p/kg to 370p/kg mark, for weights ranging between 44kg-46kg. Commercial bred lambs with weight were getting away nicely round the 311p/kg mark for 48kf-52kg lambs. Lighter lambs were around the 330p/kg. Pounds per head would see heavy Texel lambs from Stodday Land Ltd sell to £190. Beltexs from KA Purtill, Wigan sold to £180.
