J36 Rural Auction Centre: General Sale ofHorses, Ponies & Donkeys. Saturday 27th June 2026.
Yet another successful sale with 200 entries and despite a fire alarm in the middle of the sale, trade was good throughout. The day topped right at the end by Sydney, a 3-year-old registered Clydesdale gelding at 7700gns and going to his new home in the heart of the Lake District.
Cobs were topped by another quality sort from regular consignor, C Anderson from Carrutherstown with Esther a big strapping 2-year skewbald filly selling at 5800gns; the same home also selling Kirkstyle Rowan, a 3-year-old dun filly at 3000gns and Hendawle Marmalade a 2-year-old dun spotted gelding at 3000gns. R Valks sold Bruno a 17hh+ Clydesdale x gelding at 4800gns, and D Speed sold a quality TGCA registered 3-year-old piebald filly at 4200gns. With many other cobs of all ages, size and colours, selling well over the 2000gns mark.
Natives were topped by Westwick Ta , a 5-year-old registered Section A Dales gelding from G&R Dunn, selling at 2800gns, closely followed by another registered Dales gelding Colliery Scooby from AW Morland at 2200gns. The same home also selling a registered grey Fell stallion, Stennerskeugh Ringo at 1200gns. Registered Shetlands topped at 1350gns for a pretty skewbald mare and colt foal from W Broad and Login Mist a 7-year mare from C Eland at 900gns.
Donkeys were topped by two Jennys from C Foster of Scotland, selling at 700gns each and going to the same home. Another regular vendor R Toward sold Doughnut, an 8-year Jenny at 600gns.
The next sale at J36 will be the Fell Pony Society and Mountain and Moorland sale on Saturday 31st October to include a section for registered Shetland ponies, followed by the General sale on Saturday 14th November.

PRIME LAMBS
Numbers very similar on the week with buyers definitely showing preference toward well finished and hard fed lambs, grass finished lambs perhaps a more cautious trade. All lambs today averaged 401ppk for an entry ranging from 37-53kg. Sharing the top spot this week selling lambs to 545ppk are M Clegg and K Purtill with D & K Swarbrick hot on their heels achieving 544pk. Well-bred and finished lambs nicely selling away at 460-515ppk with good commercial lambs 410-445ppk. Caution shown towards leaner and out of spec lambs with these trading at 380-395ppk.
Completing a hattrick of the top spot this week was K Purtill selling the best of his lambs at £236 with others at £234 from D & K Swarbrick, £232 from A Stephenson, £224 from Y Lewtas-Wood, £220 from JM Kelsall & Son, £220 from J Lamb. The premium end of lambs nicely £190-£215, better end commercials £170-£188 with pens of lighter weights and under finished £140-£162. Vendors are encouraged to draw lambs on finish to ensure maximum appeal and returns, not just on weights.

PRIME LAMBS, HOGGS & CAST EWES
On Tuesday the 30th of June North West Auctions held its weekly sale of prime lambs, hoggs and cast sheep.
A healthy ringside of buyers from start to finish saw a reduced entry from last week forward across all sections. The heavier, well fed end of lambs once again the best types to sell on the day, with a huge shortage of that article on show. Texels topped at £229 from Messrs E Dodgson. A pen of 8 from Messrs WS Burrow Ltd hit £228 and a trio of Continental from Messrs RJ Stott made £225. Texels sold to 448p/kg from WS Burrow Ltd and to 447.1p/kg from the same home.
A nice pair hit 446p/kg from Messrs RHM & S Boyren and 437.5p/kg from Messrs E Dodgson. Lighter lambs hit 436.8p/kg for single Beltex from Messrs D & DW Prickett. An overall average of 390p/kg was achieved all in.
Demand continues to be strongest for the bigger end, however all types are a lump dearer than this time last year. Cull ewes topped at £240 twice for a Dutch Spotted from Messrs DA Dixon and a Texel from Messrs RF Morphet. Other Texels sold to £232 from Messrs F Blenkharn and £230 from MD & GE Shuttleworth.
